The reference to David French as a "random dude off the street" was clear hyperbole, and from a partisan source. Mr French is the former head of a significant organization (FIRE) defending religious and speech liberties on university campuses, is a noted constitutional lawyer with ADF and ACLJ, has authored several books, including co-authoring a #1 New York Times Bestseller, has quickly established himself as one of the favorite writers at the flagship publication for conservative intellectuals, and etc.
There's no question he merits a page at Wikipedia, whether or not he decides to run. While I don't have the time to round them up personally, a simple Google search will show that there is no shortage of secondary sources about him from all across the political spectrum.
