Advertising - or Hypocrisy?

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in News design. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.

Ernie Smith made the comments above, and I'll let them stand for now... However, I have responded to him in the discussion section of Talk:News design. Bottom Line, I think there is probably much more value to be gained by cleaning out all reference to current sellers, and getting the page to a Neutral Point of View.
Continuing to hawk peoples' products while excluding other legitimate business folks feels like advertising to me.Designing news 01:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's the thing. He assumes that all these people are up just to sell their stuff. Could it be, perhaps, that this is honestly the last we'd want out of the article? We want kids in journalism classes reading about newspaper design, not a bunch of links to guys who design newspapers. I can't believe the gall of you to suggest that I'm doing anything more than that.
I think there's simply resentment that Ed Henniger isn't on the list the same way as Mario Garcia, who is simply higher-profile. If we put every news designer on the list, the list would be huge and wouldn't be useful anymore. So we have to pick the notables, or it wouldn't be a list of notables anymore.
I have a lot of friends in the industry who would be pretty offended at the way you've been treating me. I don't understand why you're being so harsh with me. I'm actively trying to improve this article and you're trying to make me look bad in your own self-interest. That's not how we work in the journalism industry. - Stick Fig 09:08, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I guess Stick Fig believes its also OK to take the comments beyond the subject discussion page and leave his attacks on their personal pages. I'll leave his comments in place for now. Designing news 00:18, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh jeez. If you think those are personal attacks, your skin is way too thin. There are other people in this world besides you and Ed, you know. - Stick Fig 21:16, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
