Fair use rationale for File:Ultimate-Motorcycling-Dec-Jan-2010.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ultimate-Motorcycling-Dec-Jan-2010.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Corvus cornixtalk 04:26, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Suzuki DR350

Hello Dbratland, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Suzuki DR350, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Contains sufficient content to be a stub. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Dabomb87 (talk) 04:11, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Ducati Monster production & distribution table

Dbratland: (Undid revision 408730129 by Riffraffy (talk) non-authoritative fan site.)

Dbratland, I see you wasted no time in deleting my addition. As to your "non-authoritative" justification: I've have you know, I received that data direct from Ducati Italy. I guess I should have asked your permission to contribute first. But, have it your way; I am through here. Enjoy "your" site... Riffraffy (talk) 05:56, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Did you read WP:ELNO? If you put the link back, somebody else will just delete it even if I don't. --Dbratland (talk) 05:58, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

If you were the Monster authority you seem to think you are, you would know hooligans don't read the rules :). That said, I think the information within that link to be of great interest to most, if not all, Monster owners (did you even bother to scroll all the way through it?). Anyway, I am not going to bother to put the link back up. Either you restore it, or it dies at your hand... Riffraffy (talk) 06:34, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to join the Wikipedia Ambassador Program

I would like to invite you to consider joining the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, which is looking for experienced Wikipedians to be Online Ambassadors. The role of Online Ambassadors is to be mentors for students who are editing Wikipedia as part of class assignments. Please look at the Online Ambassador guidelines. I have seen the contributions you have made and know that you would be a great mentor and Ambassador. You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are the right attitude, regular activity and the ability to give practical feedback on articles. Thanks Thruxton (talk) 07:26, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I'll consider it, if I can afford another project. --Dbratland (talk) 00:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Ducati 996

Help me out at Ducati 996 where a new editor is pushing his own very poor picture of the bike into the article. I don't want to go 3RR and have left a message on his talk page asking why he is doing it. Your expertise and judgement would be a welcome intervention. --Biker Biker (talk) 17:00, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors

I saw the quality of your contributions at DYK and clicked on over to your user page and was pretty impressed. Would you be interested in helping with the WP:Online_Ambassadors program? It's really a great opportunity to help university students become Wikipedia contributers. I hope you apply to become an ambassador, Sadads (talk) 16:15, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I'll consider it, if I can afford another project. --Dbratland (talk) 00:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Ultimate-Motorcycling-Dec-Jan-2010.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Ultimate-Motorcycling-Dec-Jan-2010.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:37, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Am I being oversensitive/unfair?

If you have a moment, take a look at the contributions for Lavender1988 (talk · contribs), who has edited three articles in a virtually identical way by posting pictures of bikes fitted with the same brand of aftermarket exhaust can. I have reverted all the edits as they look mighty spammy to me i.e. I suspect this person is connected to the exhaust manufacturer. Do you concur? --Biker Biker (talk) 15:50, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Nah, you're not being unfair. It's spam. Stock bikes are preferred over modded bikes in almost all cases. If the photos were really extraordinary and informative, I'd let it go, but they're are dull and redundant, and they don't even make a discernible point about custom bike styles. --Dbratland (talk) 16:59, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Honda 50 scene Ireland

Hi, sorry to bring up an old topic but i haven't looged on in a long time. I just wanted to say thanks for putting up my edit about the Honda 50 scene in Ireland and if possible to edit the subject to be "The Irish Honda 50 scene". the main gist of my edit at the time was not to promote the website www.Honda50Run.com, but rather to demonstrate how much fun this famous bike is bringing to people over 40 years later and how it is still changing life styles. We now even have acknowledgement from Honda Europe on our adventures :)

Definitive top speed

Thanks for putting the top speed figures on the CBR1100XX page, between you and Biker Biker this is now starting to look like a credible reference. I own a stock model of this bike and have personally seen 180mph on the speedo, backed up by the same reading on the Sat Nav. However if the MCNews table referenced by you is going to be the reference point for this type of information, can the same be applied to both the ZX-11 page (which currently appears to a work of fantasy at 176mph (MCN 169mph)) and also the Suzuki Hayabusa page, which cites 194mph (MCN 188 - 186mph) measured by a car magazine!

54tibo (talk) 13:19, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

It's best to forget about your own experiences here; they're of no use because Wikipedia doesn't use original research. Wikipedia is only interested in what can be verified. "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth." The 194 mph for the 2009 Hayabusa was published in Cycle World, June 2007 [1]. Other publications recorded 189.6 and 190.

Also, none of these things can be "definitive". Machines perform differently on different occasions and different places. You will see variation of 5% or more from various sources; that's completely normal. --Dbratland (talk) 16:54, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Vagos motorcycle gang, previously I put this in discussion secction of article

Associated Press:Vagos told police about attempted hire as hitman "Calif. bill would target spouses who hire hit men By CATHY BUSSEWITZ (AP) – 1 day ago

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The story behind the legislation reads like a movie pitch.

The wife of a Southern California police detective, distraught because she had lost custody of her children, tries to hire a hit man from the Vagos motorcycle gang to kill him.

Instead, gang members alert police, who disguise themselves as biker thugs and secretly tape a conversation with her, leading to the wife's arrest and ultimate conviction for solicitation of murder....."

This information should be in article, out of fairness to Vagos.--Rich Peterson24.7.28.186 (talk) 11:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC24.7.28.186 (talk) 23:45, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Gixxer

Nice review by Kevin Ash of the middle gixxer. Might help your work. --Biker Biker (talk) 16:19, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that one reminded me of the importance of the GSX-R750 series. Kevin Ash's blog [2] covers a lot of material that's relevant to our major articles. --Dbratland (talk) 18:55, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
His blog is very good and IMHO a reliable source as he is one of the UK's leading motorcycling journalists. You tend to find it contains more detail than the corresponding articles he does for the Telegraph. --Biker Biker (talk) 19:08, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
