Independent sourcing

edit

Greetings! Be advised that verifiability is critical in Wikipedia articles. Adding information you claim to know first-hand that cannot be verified will generally lead to the information being removed, especially when sources contradict the information. That's what was done with your edits to Qaasim Middleton. Additionally, I would suggest you review the guidelines for editing when you have a conflict of interest with an article's subject. —C.Fred (talk) 00:55, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

  You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Toni Seawright. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 00:56, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sourcing revisited

edit

  Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Qaasim Middleton. Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add references to the article. I've removed the date of birth entirely since there is not a sufficiently reliable source. If—and only if—the birthdate can be independently verified should it be readded, and the source should be included as part of the edit. —C.Fred (talk) 02:18, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}}Will you help us me edit both Qaasim Middleton's page and Toni Seawright's page? That would really help me out a lot if we could enroll you for that. Here's the thing, I am a publicist and this site doesn't come very easy to edit, for starters. I work late at night and all hours during the day. I can provide you with the information that is needed and only ask that you help me edit the information so that it can be added correctly. It would prevent any of my pages from being deleted if we had you to look over the corrections first. Also, I can provide you with my information to call and give you other verifiable info to put on either page. I thank you for your diligence..and also, would prefer that we do keep Qaasim's birthdate off of the site. I really believe that that is the move to make on that. Also, I don't know if it's a smart thing to say as well, but, Ms. Seawright would like for you to know that Qaasim will be attending LaGuardia High School in the fall and was admitted in the school for Drama, Dance & Vocals. That was unheard of for an entering freshman be accepted for 3 different majors. He chose to study Vocals. Wish him luck as he enters a new phase in his life.

Hi there.
The easiest way to do this is as follows;
Create some user subpages for yourself by clicking on the red bit below, and 'create page';
Type in the stuff you want to add, and click 'save'. You can edit these as much as you like, nobody will mind, they are in your own area. You don't need to use any fancy formatting, but you DO need to give good, reliable sources for the information (like a link to a news article, or a book reference etc)
Go to the article, click on 'Discussion' at the top
'Create a new section' and say "I suggest that we add the stuff in [[User:C.Fred/sandbox1]] because (reason).
Note the [[ ]] thing above, that's the only bit of 'code' you'll need.
Remember to 'sign your name' at the end by typing ~~~~
Hopefully, this will be very easy - and you won't need to learn any fancy wiki stuff. You can create the text using Word or Notepad or something if you like, and just paste it in.
If you need any further help with it, just let us know - either
  • put another {{helpme}} on this page,
  • leave me a note on [[user talk:chzz|my own talk page, or
  • talk to us live.
I hope this helps, cheers,  Chzz  ►  03:57, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest

edit

Hi, I came across the deletion debate on Toni Seawright and I see from your comments that you are closely affiliated with Ms. Seawright and effectively editing on her behalf. You need to be aware that while we are very appreciative of efforts to help improve Wikipedia, Wikipedia's reputation in part relies on our conflict of interest policy, which prohibits people in your position from editing extensively in connection to subjects such as Toni Seawright or her son. See WP:BESTCOI for the "best practices" when you have a conflict. Editors who don't adjust to this approach often find themselves blocked, so I'm just hoping that by letting you know about it now, you can avoid this happening to you in the future.
