Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Demelza381. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article University of the West of England, Bristol, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 13:22, 27 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Do you work for UWE? edit

I live locally too - have done for 32 years. I don't know why you'd assume anyone editing the Frenchay page didn't live locally. Anyway, fair enough, I was rounding up (I was citing the distance from the common to UWE campus, which is 2 and a half miles), and that sentence now reads fairly (as opposed to "the campus is right next to the village"!). But I'm curious - what's your agenda here? You've seemed very keen to make it seem like UWE is much closer to Frenchay than it really is. Does the UWE prospectus claim Frenchay right on its doorstep, or something? Are you trying to add credence to some fuzzy truth in the promotional literature? Hi there! No, I do not work for UWE, nor do I have any agenda either. You seemed to be very opposed to the university, which is fair enough if that's the case, but we are next to Frenchay campus, and the walking distance is closer than we think. I suppose the way we measure depend on individual circumstances and I'll leave it there! Demelza381 (talk) 13:13, 30 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Harmanswater edit

I see you did a small change to the Harmans Water article regarding it being once part of Winkfield. In the dim and distant past this was indeed the case, most of Bracknell was built on what was originally the Winkfield parish. More recently, 1990s, there was a realignment of the local ward boundaries and the Harmanswater ward was slightly increased to include parts of Winkfield and Bullbrook. The rest of Harmanswater, since it was built as part of the new town in the 1960s, has always been Harmanswater. I have not reverted your edit at the moment but I don't think what you wrote is actually correct. Do you have local knowledge? I live here in Harmanswater. That is true. I was indeed writing from a somewhat "ancient" point of view and had unintentionally missed that out - I do apologise. Perhaps it might be more accurate to describe it as: "...formerly part of Winkfield and later expanded as part of plans for the new town of Bracknell" (?) Demelza381 (talk) 00:13, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
But until Bracknell new town was built Harmans Water was just the name of the lake that was there. It never existed as a place before and was never 'expanded'. Dsergeant (talk) 05:46, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but it is my understanding that the lake had been part of Winkfield too. There are maps of Winkfield with Harmans Water being part of it. If you think I made a mistake, feel free to revert my edit. Demelza381 (talk) 15:15, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
