North Georgetown edit

Since Nyttend is off the air, I thought I'd answer your question about the removal of the community event schedule. Such community bulletin board content is strongly discouraged, as it detracts from the encyclopedic nature of the article and has a way of focusing on current events, which are generally not notable and are ephemeral at best. If you see that sort of thing elsewhere, you are encouraged to (politely) remove it. The argument that something undesirable exists elsewhere in the encyclopedia is generally not well received, as it can be used to justify a number of problems that should be dealt with where they arise. Hope that answers your question. Acroterion (talk) 03:16, 15 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Acroterion has hit the nail on the head. I have a couple of other reasons for believing that I did the right thing — for one thing, the sections you reference at the Columbus and Dayton articles are detailed descriptions (and nothing more) of various events, while the final version of the Georgetown culture section had plenty of contact information. On the other hand, Lisbon's section is entirely different — it mentions only a single event. There are many situations in which it's appropriate to mention a single event but not as appropriate to mention many; it's possible (I don't know if it is or isn't, FYI) that the dulcimer event is the most important festival of the year in Lisbon. For another example, see Fort Loramie, Ohio, which mentions a country music festival. This isn't as good of an example, since no sources are cited. Thank you, by the way, for citing sources for what you added; however, Wikipedia strongly encourages the use of sources independent of their subjects, so it's generally not a very good idea to use flyers as sources for the events that they're promoting. I'm sorry that my edit summary disturbed you; please understand that I expect that you want to improve Wikipedia, and therefore I'm happy to try to help you if you have any questions. Please just leave a note on my talk page, like you did earlier, if you want help with anything. Nyttend (talk) 04:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
