Your edit request at Talk:United States Secretary of Defense edit

Hello, Dcperry, and welcome. I wanted to let you know why I left the message at the talk page denying your edit request. I know it sounds silly (at best) to ask for a reliable source to justify and edit request when a person who has personal knowledge is making the request. The fact of the matter is that the site's policies deprecate the use of personal knowledge and personal testimony from family. I am making the good-faith assumption that you are exactly who you say you are and you are right about your statement. That said, I'm sure you can appreciate that anyone can make a similar claim and insert (or request insertion of) any information. This can include anything up to and including false and defamatory information, which is why the site has a very strict policy on Biographies of Living Persons. That policy asks for secondary sources, such as published biographies or articles when making factual changes. I hope this helps explain things and have a Happy New Year.
