Speedy deletion nomination of Cambridge Mercantile Group

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Cambridge Mercantile Group, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising,  . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the page that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mean as custard (talk) 17:55, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cambridge Mercantile Group

edit

Hi there, Dcapland. I offered to restore the Cambridge Mercantile Group page that I recently deleted for being unambiguously promotional to your userspace for you to work on it. I notice, however, that you recently created the page yourself with exactly the same promotional issues that were there before. If you want the page restored to be worked on, you'll need to demonstrate that you'll be able to turn it into an acceptable Wikipedia article, and not just recreate a promotional article, like you did before. Because you recreated the article with exactly the same problems, I need to be confident that you will improve the article if it is restored - please let me know exactly how you intent to improved the article if it is restored. If I am not convinced that you can write it without being promotional, I will be unable to restore it. I would suggest that you do not attempt to recreate the article yourself: that could end up with the article's title being protected, or you being blocked. If you have a strong connection with the company, it might be worth fiwinding own other article to work on, where it will be easier to write neutrally. Hi Dcapland. The problem with create a page with "an about us, history, and specific services", is that I am not sure that this will be neutral. Firstly, an "about us" suggests that we have some sort of association with the company - we do not. About us section are generally promotional in nature. Additionally, listing specific services is not really encyclopedic; that is done to promote a company. For the sake of clarity (and you don't have to answer, but it'd be helpful) - what is your relationship with this company? I do not think resoring the page at this stage would be helpful - there was very little on that page that would be acceptable in a Wikipedia article (that is why it was speedily deleted). I suggest that you create a new page at User:Dcapland/Cambridge Mercantile Group (just click that red link to create that page) where you can work on it for some time before it is published. Restoring the article will be unhelpful, as they only way to improve it would be to start again. Have anther go; read WP:PROMO and WP:NPOV first, and then see if you can create a good article for Wikipedia. By the way, feel free to reply on this page, rather than my talk page - I am watching this page and will see it if I am online. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 14:02, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm extremely new to Wikipedia so I'm not really sure how to post on my own talk page, just yours. I work as an intern for the company (Cambridge Mercantile) I'm going to create a user page like you suggested, once I am finish would you be able to look at it and see if it is okay to publish? I want to make sure its okay before it gets deleted once again. Thanks Dcapland (talk) 15:15, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I've moved this from my talk page to here. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 15:25, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, Dcapland. If you want to reply here, just click the edit button which you should see next to the heading for this section. Then add your message at the bottom. Help:Using talk pages gives advice on using talk pages.
Creating a draft would be a good idea; I'd more more than happy to look at it before you publish it. Before you do that, however, I would strongly advise you to read the information at WP:COI. As you work for the company, it will be difficult to write an article according to Wikipedia's standards. My recommendation to you is not to write the article - it would be much better for you if you can find something that you are not personally attached to that you could write about. If you don't mind me asking, has the company you work for asked you to write an article, or is this your own decision? You will have to be completely neutral - this means that you must not promote the article at all; you must simply describe the company, without making it sound good. Additionally, even if you do manage to write the article neutrally, it may still not be notable - notability is a requirement for inclusion on Wikipedia. To determine notability, you must provide multiple reliable sources which are independent of the company. I suggest you read this policy on notability to make sure the company is notable; if it isn't, I suggest finding something else to write an article about. If the company is not notable, there's nothing you can do about that and any article you write may be nominated for deletion by another editor. Hi there. I have completely changed the entire article. Can I somehow send it to you for you to see that it is unbiased? Please let me know so that I will not be deleted again!! Thank you

What do you think is wrong with the page. Dcapland (talk) 17:54, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't want the page deleted!! It keeps saying nominated for deletion. I jsut posted it for you to review it for me because it hasbeen fully changed. Dcapland (talk) 15:05, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I didn't realise I just want somebody to review the page there is nothing wrong with it. Please stop deleting it because I didn't put any tags since I don't even know how too. Where can I post it so you can review it without deleting it Dcapland (talk) 17:10, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is better than it was originally - you've not done a bad job at making it ready more neutrally (having said that, it could still do with improvement - I think you will need to get another editor who has no connection to the company at all to have a look for you too). Before it is published, you will need to prove that it is notable - this is done with reliable sources. Could you find two (or more) sources for this - that would be newspaper articles, significance references in books, pieces in magazines (but not promotional pieces, or announcements about products/staff). Basically, anything that proves that the company has had an influence on society. The pieces you find must have no connection with the group (a piece from their own website, for example, would not count). Once you've found them, list them in the references section; until then, leave it in your userspace. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 18:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also, I am watching this page - please reply here, not on my talk page. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 18:27, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
