Hi Doug,

I know you've declared your intent to leave Wikipedia, but I urge you not to. From what I've seen, you're an intelligent, articulate writer, and you're devoted to increasing the availability of the knowledge at your disposal. I feel you have a lot to offer the Wikipedia community.

I know that the reception of your articles must have seemed... unduly harsh. The Establishment is always quick to dispute radical views. However, I believe that a consensus has been reached that at least the main article you constructed is worthy of inclusion - we're not complete boneheads.

In short, I sincerely hope that you create a user page and stay with us for a while.

Thanks Cyan. Actually, I've left several times, but I keep coming back. I appreciate your compliments though. I don't think you are all boneheads, I've grown to understand a lot about Wikipedia and I appreciate and respect the tremendous work that has been contributed by many sincere, hard working folks. I believe that someday it will be one of the most valuable resources online.
Thanks for your kind invitation, I appreciate it. I think that I'll probably stick around for a while. I might even write a user page, LOL.

What you say sounds good. I'll watch with anticipation. I don't know how you'll go with the Wheel of Motion articles -- the self-promotion aspect makes them particularly contentious. Do you know about the whole Daniel C. Boyer ordeal? -- Tim Starling 03:21, Aug 9, 2003 (UTC)

Well, I care nothing about self-promotion. I don't need attribution as far as the wheel goes if that is considered self-promotion. My only interest is a fair representation of the RST and the Wheel is a great visual symbol of one of its achievements. It's not excludable on grounds of any Wikipedia policy that I can see, except possibly self-promotion since I'm the author of both the wheel and the article. But if there is no attribution in the article, then I can hardly see how it can be construed as self-promotion. Doug 16:46, 9 Aug 2003 (UTC)
