Editions in print

I have had it confirmed by an administrator that my interpretation of creating a section titled 'Editions in print' as WP:BOOKSPAM is correct. I am therefore deleting the section in Flatland once again. Raise the question at forum level if you wish. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 13:43, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, David; it was just a matter of copy-paste from template:multi image and modifying to taste! cmɢʟeeτaʟκ 10:52, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Definition of trillion

Thanks David for your contribution. You comment:

detailsand references are on the article itself.

and by this I presume you mean:

details and references are in the article itself

Is this what you are saying?

So where are the references?

I see no references to which you refer.

Thanks for your help in making this important item (trillion) more clear,

Regards,

Do better.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Acadia National Park may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Disambiguation link notification for February 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Amazing Stories, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ted White (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

portmanteau

Cukservative is a particularly funny portmanteau, which is suitable right after Sarah Palin, because it's related to the Republicans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.219.76.2 (talk) 07:37, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Let me ask you something...

Do you judge a store by the quality of its merchandise, or by the whining you overhear at the complaint counter? BMK (talk) 06:33, 26 March 2016 (UTC) (Note to confused future self: This follows minor disagreement about Doughboy article)Reply

Hey, future DavdiWBrooks: in actuality, it comes after your past self wrote on Talk:Doughboy: "judging from some of the comments on your talk page you don't give an inch in edit disputes", so if you ever run into your past self, do remind him not to judge a book by the comments scrawled inside it by disaffected readers. Better to read the book and judge it on its own merits. BMK (talk) 21:46, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Your repetition of Wikipedia:I just like it made the comments seem very plausible. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 22:06, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Be that as it may, my comment was petty and pointless. I think I'll remove it so we can move on. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 23:02, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I restored your removal. Once a comment has been responded to, it is strongly discouraged to edit the comment, as it distorts the response, and leaves the wrong imporession as to what the responder was reacting to. If you want to strike it out, please feel free to do so. BMK (talk) 00:37, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and if you're stirking out pointless and petty remarks, you remark just above would be a good candidate as well. Probably better to think twice before posting. (And to give some consideration to turning in the bit, I'm not sure your up to the standards required of admins these days.) BMK (talk) 00:40, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Well, looks like my impression was pretty accurate. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 13:05, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect His finest performances. Since you had some involvement with the His finest performances redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Steel1943 (talk) 18:41, 2 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Cathy Dennis song

I don't think that I will have to do a page only for Cathy Dennis version. Wikipedia says: "Songs with notable cover versions are normally covered in one common article about the song and the cover versions." All songs that have been appeared in chart must have been on the page of the article and I don't think that is something saying that is wrong. See those pages: La Vie en rose; The Power of Love (Jennifer Rush song) and many others...--88marcus (talk) 22:33, 3 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Vegemite

That Miley Cyrus has a jar of Vegemite tattooed on her hardly reflects the way that the world views Vegemite. From the news tonight it seems that she only did it because a friend introduced her to it. --AussieLegend () 13:21, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Zillion and friends

Very nice addition to Indefinite and fictitious numbers. I've trimmed a lot of unnecessary garbage off the end of the URL-- the question mark and everything after it-- and tested the shortened version, of course. To the best of my knowledge, those appendices serve only to tell the domain owner how the user came to the page in the first place, kind of like I heard it from Jack, who got it from Roseanne, who saw it on Wikipedia, and they got it from...* (I don't think personal pass-alongs can or do get included, but websites do.)

Tower of Hanoi and OEIS

OEIS Sequence A001511 is not original research. It's a Core Sequence. See L. Gros, Théorie du Baguenodier, Aimé Vingtrinier, Lyon, 1872. The connection between the ruler function and the Tower of Hanoi goes back more than 140 years. EdPeggJr (talk) 16:46, 25 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, DavidWBrooks. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Backronym edit

Hello! I'm sure you get plenty of questions, so I am indeed sorry to bother you. I saw the comment that this was not to be an exhaustive list, but I felt that the backronym for backronym was appropriate for a few reasons: it's an example, it's a definition, and it's awkwardly shoehorned as are many acronyms. The reason given for the edit seemed to be that since many people don't say this explicitly, it should not be on the page. Obviously, I disagree, but I don't want to "redo an undo." My question for you is, how do I meaningfully contribute to wikipedia without worrying that my edits are in vain? Thank you for your time! Stevensenger (talk) 23:09, 29 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Chirithy from Kingdom Hearts χ is based off a Scottish Fold.

As you can see with the links provided, the Chirithy creature from the Kingdom Hearts series is based off the Scottish Fold. The distinctive features that make it so are the flattened ears and puffy facial features. This creature was designed by Tetsuya Nomura who took inspiration from his pet Cat who just so happen to be a Scottish Fold. Please do respond if you have any reasons as why you don't think they're based off the Scottish Fold.Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 10:44, 23 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi DavidWBrooks.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Joe Clifford Jay Porter Novels

Yesterday I added two novels by author Joe Clifford, who is a friend and a well-known writer. The Novels are Lamentation and December Boys, published by Oceanview Publishing on October 21, 2014 and June 7, 2016, respectively. You deleted them, saying they were minor novels. Joe Clifford has published several books, including Junkie Love and Lamentation was a 2015 Anthony Award Nominee for Best Mystery Novel. Joe has a dedicated following and I imagine many people in the state of New Hampshire are fans.

They weren't a significant addition to that article - New Hampshire - although they may be a significant addition to other articles. There are lots of good and popular writers whose books have taken place in New Hampshire; we can't list them all. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 00:35, 15 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
