UWR

Hi David, not sure if I'm using the correct platform for this, just wanted to explain the reason for the changes I've made on the UWR page. I might be biased so that could be the reason why some of the texts sound buzzwordy as I've been a fan of this sport for quite a while now. On the other hand I know quite much of it and I can compare it to other sports I did or still do. I think the whole page would require updating, the reasons why I haven't done that is because I don't know Wikipedia much, I don't have so much time, and I would need to have the text checked by someone as my English knowledge is not flawless. Anyway, I would really like to emphasise how young and different UWR is, for instance the fact that it allows mixed gender teams, or being a 3 dimensional teamsport, which I find exceptional. Simply saying it's underwater does not describe that, I also play underwater hockey, which is also underwater yet it has nothing in common with rugby in this aspect as the puck does run on the bottom of the pool even if some shots lift it up. So the same discipline as hockey, soccer, etc. Do you play UWR too? Would you like to work on an update together? There are so many things which should be included in this post to be decent and accurate! Concern over Jeane Dixon article

Hello DavidWBrooks.
      I am writing to you concerning the article on Jeane Dixon. I realize there are many contributors to this article, but you appear to be the first, and also the editor who contributed the part I have a concern with. When the article says Jeane Dixon "was [emphasis added] one of the best-known American astrologers and psychics of the 20th century.......", it necessarily implies that there is a such thing as psychics and psychic phenomena. These are hotly debated issues with different people holding different opinions. And Wikipedia articles are not supposed to present opinion as if it were fact. I believe this violates WP:NPOV.
      Rather than going right in and changing the wording, I wanted to first consult with at least one of the article's editors and hopefully work together on alternate language. From experience, I've found that it usually works better that way. I would very much appreciate hearing your opinion.

I believe the proper protocol is to discuss reversions on either the talk page (which I've seen you do in 2008), but this is a new revert, and, thus, a new issue.

I believe that that I was concise and kept the extraneous details to a minimum. I happened to have been watching that episode at the time (Deep Space Homer).

If your objection to the Simpsons is personal, that is not a valid revert reason. I do believe that my example was more salient, and we could discuss keeping the Deep Space Homer reference in the stead of the current example, or we can discuss a simple one line reference, i.e. only include "Another Simpsons episode, Deep Space Homer, likewise references the limerick."

Take a look at my edit history - I do not have a record of trivial edits, nor and I reverted frequently.

I appreciate the chance to discuss this issue with you.

amazing stories main page

David,

I'm writing to you because you are an administrator and the editor who first created the Amazing Stories page.

I acquired the trademark(s) for Amazing Stories in 2011 and have been working on bringing the magazine back since then. Current efforts are viewable at www.amazingstoriesmag.com.

We've published three formal issues of the magazine, have licensed the name to a sign/notions manufacturers (for posters & embossed signs) and to a small reprint publisher named Futures Past Editions, who have and are in the process of publishing numerous books (print and electronic) under the Amazing Stories Classics imprint.

Yesterday, I discovered that someone calling themselves the "Amazing Stories Library" was selling numerous issue reprints on Amazon (and DVDs of the same on Ebay). While preparing takedown notices and trademark infringement notices for Amazon, B&N, Ebay and other locations, I was made aware of a link to the wikipedia article on Amazing Stories.

Upon checking that out, I discovered that these individuals had greatly altered the entry, pretty much erasing anything having to do with the current version of the magazine. They added a link (at the top of the listing) to their infringing product on Amazon.

These changes to Wikipedia correspond to a noticeable drop in traffic for my website, as well as other things that have been occurring.

It is plainly obvious that someone is trying to trade off of the existence of the magazine by creating confusion in the market place.

Understand that I am only addressing the use of the name; most of the artwork and most of the fiction reproduced in those books on Amazon are in the public domain and are freely available to anyone wanting to use them. What I am taking issue with is the use of the trademarked name - Amazing Stories - as their unauthorized brand for what they are publishing.

I am not familiar enough with the workings of Wikipedia to know what the current rules are regarding intellectual property "theft", but I would certainly hope that when it can be proven that something infringes on an existing trademark, it would be removed from an entry, and that any attempts to place it back in would be squashed by the group of people who are watching that page.

I'd appreciate any assistance you can give me in this regard - and I will be happy to provide proof (trademark registration, etc) should you request such.

Barring that, I could use some help setting up an email "watch" of the page so that I can continually monitor changes that may take place.
