Image of the One Ring

edit

I have requested admin help with regards to the image you have added to the One Ring article. I feel it is inappropriate to the article and adds nothing to it. I do not want to get into an edit war however, if you wish to add your comments to the request the article can be found here Carl Sixsmith (talk) 19:51, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Darth Mike --

edit

hoping for help. I'd like to add an image to the entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barefoot_Sanders#Tenure_as_a_Federal_Judge . I shot the photo myself, I have all required permissions and am happy to say so, it's already on my own website (at http://www.sortor.com/Sanders_B-Day_Judge_05/source/img_3723.html ), reasonably-sized, and I'm happy for the image to be used by any and all, in any and all ways other than commercial.

I'm really sorry I'm so code-retarded, but I'm a self-taught, 54-yr.-li'l old lady lawyer/video artist trying to do too much other stuff at the same time; so if there's any chunk of code I could just copy and paste, or any other help at all, it would be much appreciated. Pls assume total ignorance on my part.

The image could be added under the "official portrait," or in the section talking about his retirement, since the photo was shot the year before he retired.

Many thanks -- auralee —Preceding unsigned comment added by Auralee (talkcontribs) 07:20, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know about the pending speed deletion. I'm trying to figure out how to prove that album is notable, but the notability standards on albums have gone inactive. What can I do to prove notability here? Spinach Monster (talk) 03:57, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can do with the band. Spinach Monster (talk) 04:03, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
How many sources are necessary under the WP:GNG IYO? Spinach Monster (talk) 04:07, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
That's just it: how "significant" is "significant"? What's "significant" to me may not be to you and vice versa. Such an arbitrary standard.... Spinach Monster (talk) 04:15, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the clarification. As I believe, and as you've seen(that article was for the band itself, not the album), this article can be made notable. The Pinehurst Kids aren't on a major label, but they're not some random group of guys with a garage and an amplifier. I need to hit the hay, so I can't continue the search tonight. I leave the decision up to you on how to proceed with this. Spinach Monster (talk) 04:50, 2 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Heads Up

edit

I'll write up the article on the band itself later and then remake the article on the album. If that breaks any rules, please let me know and i'll hold up. I don't want to cause a fuss over that, but i'd like to see that article survive. Spinach Monster (talk) 02:54, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Recovering deleted material

edit

Hi Darth Mike, I submitted my first Wikipedia article titled Garth Francis, and you delted it. Having read the instructions & learned more about criteria for Wikipedia articles, I would like to re-work the article & try it again. However, I did not save the text of the article anywhere else. Is the text lost forever, or can you send it back to me? Thank you, Sarashea (talk) 03:13, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey

edit

Why is the Shannon Riddick article on speedy deletion? He has does have multiple film credits. Thanks (Shane101yo (talk) 02:38, 9 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

It's not enough to be in multiple films, anyone can be an extra in a film. Playing the role of "teen" in a made-for-tv movie isn't exactly notable. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 02:41, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

He has a couple of lines in the scene that he is in. The script did not give a specific name. (Shane101yo (talk) 02:43, 9 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

Even so, it's not a 'significant role' as the criteria states.-- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 02:45, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

oh, okay. What if he does get a significant role, do I have to start all over again? (Shane101yo (talk) 02:46, 9 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

Not at all, you can save the page to your userpage if it gets deleted. For instance, my sandbox is at User:Darth Mike/Sandbox. You could make yours at User:Shane101yo/Sandbox or something similar. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 02:48, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cool, thanks so much. Does this means that it will get deleted or it might be? (Shane101yo (talk) 02:51, 9 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

Only administrators can delete pages, which I am not. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 02:54, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay. I'll just wait until he gets a bigger role. He's already filming another film in the next couple of months but I dont know if he has a big role. I thought he was famous, lol :P Thanks for the advice (Shane101yo (talk) 03:00, 9 February 2009 (UTC))Reply

edit

Hi, I created the page above which is listed for speedy deletion. I wasn't going to put the page up yet because it wasn't finished, but I thought I would put it up anyway and finish it later when I had time. I'm a bit busy at the moment. Can I just have until the end of the week to finish it off. After that if it's not finished you can feel free to delete it. regards. Pete —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peter C Jones (talkcontribs) 04:47, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Pete, I don't actually delete pages and it's not up to me when it's deleted. I just tag the page for an admin to check. It looks like it's a moot point because Davewild says it doesn't meet the criteria of club (although I disagree). It can still be deleted if it fails WP:N. I'll check back in a couple of days. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 05:17, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

hello there

edit

A tag has been placed on Conra requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

Marasmusine's comment on your talk page pretty much sums it up. The game just isn't notable. It hasn't been covered by any reliable third party sources. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 02:18, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jess H. Dickinson

edit

You deleted the article about a State Supreme Court Justice before I could place a Hang-on Tag. What I did was split out the bio on Jess H. Dickinson from Supreme Court of Mississippi because of a Split Tag on the supreme court page; my edit summaries on the Dickinson page and the supreme court page state this clearly.

  1. As there hadn't been a copyright vio problem with the bio while it was a part of the supreme court page, why was there a problem with it when I split it out?
  2. There still needs to be an article on this man, even with a re-write. Rosiestep (talk) 17:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I didn't delete your article, only admins can delete articles. It WAS a copyvio problem on the suprreme court page, it's just nobody caught it. The text was pretty much copied and pasted straight from here which is a state owned website, being unfamiliar with that states copyright laws I'm unable to say whether or not it's allowable. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 18:02, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why do you insist on deleting the Radioactive Friends of the Deep page!? This comic series is legitamet and one of the reasons you don't get anything on Google is because it's all in a different language and Google doesn't do different languages!! Remember to assume good faith. For an article to be included on wikipedia, it must meet certain criteria, I've listed the criteria I feel the article fails on its AFD page. And Google does many languages. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 00:38, 14 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Mike. Just because you like or dislike a band is not a valid reason to keep or delete an article. Articles about bands must pass WP:BAND. Feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 05:13, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Can you teach me about WP:BAND? Thanks Mike-hilal (talk) 05:16, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
In a nutshell, for a band to have an article it must have significant coverage by third party sources, have a single that has charted, have an album that has charted, release two albums on a notable record label, OR has been nominated by a major award such as a grammy. If a band has done any ONE of these things, they're considered notable. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 05:23, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

First Capital LLC deletion?

edit

Can you please provide insight on why the First Capital LLC page was removed for copyright infringement? I added the trademark info they hold to the page.

Thanks.

Hoffman457 (talk) 18:41, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just adding the trademark is not enough. All the information added to wikipedia MUST be free or fair use. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Unless the copyright holder releases the information into the public domain, we cannot just simply copy and paste it. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 18:57, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the clarification - I now understand that the issue was with the officer bios. I have updated and reposted - I believe it should now conform to requirements. Thanks for your help.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Hoffman457 (talkcontribs) 22 February 2009

It seems that the article was again deleted before I got the chance to look at it. If I were you, and remember this is just one user's opinion, I would back off from First Capital. If it is notable enough, someone else will eventually create it. Feel free to ask me any questions about this or anything else you may wish to know. Thanks. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 21:58, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lack of talent

edit

While i might not know you personally, and i have know grudge against you my bass prompted me into sending you a message. While, under perfect circumstances, he would write this himself, his basic English skills, combined with his inability to use a key board correctly, he is missing his small finger on his left side. He was very distressed when you decided to delete my article, he new to the computer buissness and did not have a previous website, i was hired to make for him, but i have not figured out how to break the internet black that has restricted acsess in my workplace, plus all new websites have to be checked over by an administrater first. I was able to get onto wiki by generating a different account everytime that i acessed the page. We hope to have one up and running soon. You didn't know this, and it is not your fault, yet my boss, and i, both are distressed by the deletion of this page, i took many translations, and, for a begginer computer user this was very unpleasent, but when we were just getting started we found you and your deletion article, i know that you can't un-delete it, but if there was a way to salvage the pages content, this would save a whole bunch of time. I hope that you will be more carful with your authority, and know that it is a privledge to change the internet, don't waste it. P.S. your page was freezing our computer, i am not sure if it was just our computer, but please look into this. P.S. Don't send me a message, i won't be able to get back on this acount, just post the salvaged page on the articles for deletion, or your discussion board if you can. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vest article summary b7 comics division (talkcontribs) 16:55, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

You seem to be under the mistake that I have any authority on wikipedia. I have none. I have the same amount of authority as any other registered user. Hi,

I'm the creator of Noe Serrano's profile in Wikipedia. After getting your alerts I've changed the text twice. I hope that now it fits your criteria. In the profile you can find, not just a definition, but also a cronology of exhibitions and some links where his work can be found. Thanks in advance,

Deleting frenzy

edit

While you might be able to delete all of these pages, i don't recomend that you do, mainly beacause deleting pages makes you feel superiority that you do not have. If you want to do something, enjoy life, play a game of baseball, enjoy the fresh air, but as health concerned person, deleting wikipedia pages for a life, doesn't sound very enjoyable at all, just unhealthy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spam mail (talkcontribs) 16:15, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your suggestions, I will look into them. Currently, however, I'm quite happy with the way I do things. You should note that I do not have any amount of 'power' on Wikipedia at all. I can tag pages for deletion, but I cannot actually delete them. So, all the pages that are deleted do to me have at least two people (one of whom is me, the other an administrator) that agree that the page doesn't belong on Wikipedia. I tag pages for deletion for the same reason I do anything else on Wikipedia, to enhance it. Also, remember to sign your talk page posts with 4 tildes ~~~~ and it will automatically substitute your signature. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 17:56, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, is he notable now?

Hey, this is a question about the Shannon Riddick page that I started a couple of months ago. I found a third party article about him and what he is doing in his career. Is he notable now? And can i post the page back up from my Sandbox? Thanx Shane101yo (talk) 04:58, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you're referring to this, I'd unfortunately say no. That looks like a local paper's website and while local papers aren't prohibited or anything, just one local paper isn't enough to establish notability. I think you should also get another editor's opinion on this as well, because my opinion is just... well, my opinion. -- Darth Mike  (join the dark side) 12:37, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi and thanks for fixing the portal box header template. I'm not new to programming (like, started before Star Wars came out ... :) but am relatively new to Wikipedia. Are all templates really available for editing by anyone? I would have thought there would be a whole class of pages that would be locked down, as not containing "info content", to keep the overall look/feel of Wikipedia. Csalmon (talk) 03:36, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would say probably 95% of the pages on Wikipedia can be edited by anyone with an account, not that I've counted or anything >_>. No special privileges are needed to edit those pages. Re: your comment on 125.237.208.189:User talk: No offence and you may not be aware, but most households in New Zealand have dynamic public IP addresses. This means the same IP address could be assigned to hundreds of households over its lifetime and commenting on an IP usertalk based in NZ is nothing but an utter waste of your valuable time (the IP happens to have just been assigned to me). I disagree. When you warn an IP, it leaves other editors a clue that this IP has been disruptive. If the disruption continues, and the IP keeps getting warned, an editor will see that it's time to take the IP to WP:AIV and that a short block may be in order. Also, you many not be aware, but that message was left by a program called Huggle, it was automatically left after I had reverted the IP's edit. I don't recall the page specifically, but looking at your talk page I tagged the page for deletion because your band is not notable. For a band to have an article it must pass WP:BAND, and it appears your band does not. Wikipedia isn't here to support your band. Your band must have significant coverage by reliable third-party sources in order to be included. Also, as it is your band, you shouldn't create an article about it. If your band truly is notable, someone else will make an article about it.-- Darth Mike (talk) 07:13, 3 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, that's why we don't just let any article exist here. And I have no idea why the image was removed. You'll have to ask User:Masem because he's the one that removed it. There's many things you can do to contribute. Reverting vandalism, correcting typos, creating appropriate articles, Wikipedia is always in need of quality editors.
