Joan d Arc decommission on september 1 edit

Hi this decom has been puzzling me for some time as it has clearly been planned but then after the party was over it seemed to get a bit doubtful. Marine have continued listing as in training role. Personelly I have been speculating that due the troubles being stirred up in the ME that the Marine may hve been feeling it was best to sit on their hands before they junked an expensive to operate but still very useful ship. Maybe though it was just taking a while for the tears to dry. Do you have some up to date info on this. Your change needs to be sourced as the official announcemnent was 1 may. Please advise, not just to satisfy my own curiousity but also because this article edit must have a credible article source. Thanks Felix505 (talk) 12:01, 2 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dark Nark, good work. I thought all the announcements in May seemed to have a lack of finality about them and that JDA seemed to just linger a bit.

The helicopter carrier Jeanne d'Arc was removed from active service June 7, 2010. The necessary disarmament operations , footnote b), shall be conducted under the authority of the Admiral commanding the Naval Action Force (ALFAN). For the Minister of Defence and delegation: The Commissioner-General of 1 re class Deputy Chief of Staff "support and finance", Hubert SCIORELLA.

I think you should edit the article to show "removed from active service 7 June, 2010" and cite to the above. The blog on the proceedings in September although informing may not be a good enough source. Lets try and find something better to cite and just list the removed from active service info for now. Make sure to cite to the boc.sga.defense.gouv.fr you have provided. I will keep on the look out as well for something more 'official'. It is good to see some information on this turn up. I have left a note on the articles discussion page with your cite. Could you leave the other details on the Discussion page so other editors can help follow up the September date. I just went ahead and did an edit on the article restoring your info and adding a bit of content to it. Please have a look and see if you agree with the content and let me know if you turn up some more info on the withdrawal of colours on sept 1 as I also but in a "needs citation" note on 1 september and the colours and name removal. Hi again, you probably noticed I did some digging around and eventually found a half reasonable cite. Lets keep an eye on things and see if something better comes up maybe from Marine. It would also be nice to get some detail of the actual 'life' of this rather famous ship into the article. Maybe a 'notable missions section would be good. This ship went a lot of places flying the tri colour and I suspect that Jeanne d'Arc was a very potent and memorable symbol of France to the people of many nations it visited. It was indeed a powerful symbolic figure of France, the nation's naval power and the nation's fading colonial significance in the period from the late 40's through to the late 70's. It seems that we have managed to get some reasonable detail of the last rites of the ship but the article lacks the story of the ships life. If you want to do any more work on it don't hesitate to contact me and I will try to assist if I can, or of course just go ahead on your own. It was great that you turned up that detail on the decom and deflag. I was certainly a bit mystified by it and it was good to see the matter tidied up in the article.
