Choctaw County

The Choctaw Three were convicted of the 1999 murder of a non-existent baby.

Jackson County

The Scottsboro Boys were nine black juveniles convicted of an alleged 1931 rape of a white girl. Some were exonerated, but all convictions are disputed.

Lowndes County

Butler and Yelder were convicted of the alleged 1928 murder of Butler's niece. They were exonerated in the same year when the niece was found living less than 20 miles away.

Mobile County

John Louis Evans was executed in 1983 for the 1977 murder of a Mobile pawn shop owner.

Shelby County

Patrick Swiney was convicted of the 1987 murder of his wife and her ex-husband. The conviction is disputed.

Tuscaloosa County

James Hubbard was executed in 2004 for the 1977 Tuscaloosa murder of his wife.

Maricopa County

Ray Krone was sentenced to death for the 1991 murder of a bar manager. Bite marks found on the victim were said to match Krone's teeth. DNA tests exonerated Krone in 2001.

Pima County

Louis Taylor was convicted of the arson murder of 28 people who died in a 1970 Tucson hotel fire. The conviction is disputed.

Crittenden County

The West Memphis Three were convicted of murdering of murdering three eight-year-old boys. The convictions are disputed.

Marion County

Charles Hudspeth was convicted of the 1887 murder of his lover's missing husband. Hudspeth was hanged in 1892, but the husband was found alive, living in Kansas in 1893.

Pope County

Ronald Gene Simmons was convicted in the 1987 shooting murders of 14 relatives and 2 other people in a rampage that began in Dover and ended in Russellville. Simmons was executed in 1990.

Pulaski County

Barry Lee Fairchild was convicted of the 1983 rape and murder of a 22-year-old nurse. He was executed in 1995. The conviction is disputed.

Alameda County

Huey Newton was convicted of the 1967 manslaughter of an Oakland Patrolman. His conviction was overturned in 1970.

Los Angeles County

Harvey Murray Glatman was convicted of the 1957-58 rape and murder of three models. He was executed in 1959.

Geronimo Pratt, a Black Panther leader, was convicted in 1972 of the 1968 murder of a white school teacher. He was exonerated in 1997.

Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted of the 1989 shooting deaths of their wealthy parents. The crime occurred at the parents' Beverly Hills mansion.

Orange County

Randy Steven Kraft was convicted of killing 16 men between 1970 and 1983. He is strongly suspected of killing 51 others.

Riverside County

Robert Diaz, a male nurse, was sentenced to death for the 1981 murders of 12 hospital patients. They were all allegedly injected with a fatal dose of lidocaine. Diaz' conviction is disputed.

San Bernardino County

Rivera and Walpole were convicted in 1973 of the 1965 murder of their three-year-old daughter. Shortly after their convictions, their daughter was located alive.

Stanislaus County

Scott Peterson was convicted of the 2002 murder of his wife and unborn son. The conviction is disputed.

Sutter County

Juan Vallejo Corona was convicted of the 1971 machete murders of 25 farm workers. The victims were killed separately, on average one every 40 hours over over a six week period.

Hinsdale County

Alferd Packer was convicted of the 1874 manslaughter of five men. His conviction is disputed.

Mark Kirk was convicted of the 1996 alleged arson murders of three people. The conviction is disputed.

Broward County

Jesse Tafero was convicted of the 1976 murder of a highway patrolman and a visiting Canadian constable. He was executed in 1990. His conviction is disputed.

Dade County

Joseph Shea was convicted of the 1959 murder of an airline clerk. He was retried and acquitted in 1966.

De Soto County

James Richardson was convicted of the 1967 poisoning murder of seven of his children. He was exonerated in 1989.

Duval County

Leo Jones was convicted of the 1981 murder of a police officer. He was executed in 1998. The conviction is disputed.

Gulf County

Wilbert Lee and Freddie Pitts were sentenced to death for the 1963 robbery and murder of two Port St. Joe gas station attendants. The were released and pardoned in 1975.

Lake County

The Groveland Three were blacks convicted in 1949 of the rape of a white woman. Their convictions are disputed.

Leon County

The Quincy Five were accused of murdering a sheriff's deputy. Two were convicted before evidence emerged that exonerated all five.

Orange County

Pedro Medina was executed in 1997 for the 1982 murder of an Orlando teacher.

Chatham County

Douglas Echols was convicted of a 1986 kidnapping, rape, and robbery. DNA tests exonerated him in 2004.

Cobb County

The Marietta Seven were convicted of the 1971 murder of two physicians in Marietta. The seven were exonerated in 1975.

DeKalb County

Clarence Harrison was convicted of the 1986 kidnapping, robbery, and rape of a 25-year-old woman in Decatur. DNA tests exonerated him in 2004.

Fulton County

Leo Frank was convicted of the 1913 murder of a 13-year-old female employee in Atlanta. He was lynched in 1915, and posthumously pardoned in 1986.

Cook County

Majczek and Marcinkiewicz were convicted of the 1932 murder of a Chicago police officer. They were exonerated in 1945 and 1950.

William Heirens was convicted of three murders that occurred in 1945 and 1946. The convictions are disputed.

Gary Dotson was convicted of a 1977 rape after he was identified by the victim. The victim recanted in 1985 and DNA tests cleared him in 1989.

John Wayne Gacy was executed in 1994 for the 1972-1978 rape and murder of 33 boys and men. Twenty-seven of the victims were found buried beneath the crawl space of his Norwood Park house.

Condy Dabney was convicted of the 1924 murder of a 14-year-old girl. A year after his conviction the girl was found living 85 miles away.

Shareef Cousin was sentenced to death for a 1995 murder. He was released in 1998.

Dennis Dechaine was convicted of the murder of a 12-year-old girl. The conviction is disputed.

Baltimore County

Michael Austin was convicted of the 1974 murder of a grocery store security guard. He was exonerated in 2001.

Kirk Bloodsworth was convicted of the 1985 rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl. DNA tests exonerated him in 2003.

Middlesex County

Gerald Amirault was convicted in 1986 of molesting and raping eight children at the Fells Acres Day Care Center in Malden. The conviction is disputed.

Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted of a 1920 double homicide and robbery. They were executed in 1927. Governor Dukakis posthumously exonerated the pair in 1977.

Lawyer Johnson was sentenced to death for a 1971 Roxbury murder. He was exonerated in 1982.

Randall VanLandingham Jr., a Salvation Army officer, was convicted in 2002 of child molestation. The conviction is disputed.

Cory Maye was sentenced to death for the 2001 fatal shooting of a policeman who conducted a mistaken drug raid of Maye's home. Maye's conviction is disputed.

The Central Park Five were five Harlem teens convicted of the 1989 assault and rape of a jogger in New York's Central Park. The five were exonerated in 2002.

Ronell Wilson was sentenced to death in 2007 for the 2003 Staten Island murders of two undercover police detectives.

Ronald DeFeo was convicted of the 1974 Amityville murders of his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
