August 2010 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for Repeated Vandalism. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. {{unblock|I have just created an account on Wikipedia, and have tried adding links to 3 posts. This was after reading your guidelines for external links, which state that appropriate external links are “Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject and cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks), or other reasons”. My links were removed by robots with funny names, so I tried adding them again. Then I found myself blocked for vandalism… I believe my links were appropriate and followed your guidelines. If they are not, I promise not to add them again. At the same time, I would like an explanation on how I can add this information; it would make it easier to understand what I’m doing wrong if I got clear, detailed messages that are not sent by robots with funny names. I thought those robots were vandals that were undoing my changes! Thank you, regards, Danilo Hegg}}.

You ignored six warnings to stop adding links to your blog. The robot vandal hypothesis is an alarming rationale for your edits. After reading WP:EL are you saying you are still confused about your links? Kuru (talk) 22:48, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
What happened to assume good faith. Like few, I actually bothered to look at the content, which was well sourced [1]. Seems to me like an honest mistake. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 22:57, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello there. I'm doing what I can to get your block overturned, as I see that what you were linking to, isn't on a good site, which we can't include, but it appears to be a perfectly referenced article, which is good and could be included here. Sit tight, I'll do what I can. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 22:54, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm really sorry I didn't even see the messages, every time I clicked on the link "there's a new message", I only saw the same info at the top of the page, that's where I stopped, I didn't scroll to the bottom and didn't get to read the messages at all. I thus tried to undo those changes that I thought had been done by vandals. I will not try adding those links again, I'll work on understanding an appropriate way of adding this information, sorry for the spam again!
It's OK. We were all new once and we all make mistakes. I'll get your block overturned and then we can work on adding the content to the articles together, ok? :) Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 23:02, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Per reasonable explanation of what has happened, and understanding that user will not resume inserting the links and will work with Steven to incorporate the content directly into the articles. T. Canens (talk) 23:06, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks heaps, I promise not to try add external links again.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Danilo Hegg (talkcontribs)

A fresh start edit

OK, sorry about that. Now I had a look at your blog, could you tell me a little bit more about when you wrote the article and where you got the content for it. I saw you used references in the article, is the whole article from stuff you read in books or the internet, or was it mostly stuff that you know? Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 23:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The articles were written during the last couple of months, dates are at the top of each article. Matukituki River West Branch for instance was written on 24 May 2010.
The historical notes are from books or internet, as cited in the references. Everything else (introduction and route descriptions) is based on local knowledge, this means, it's me writing about the valley based on my experience, and multiple visits to the siteDanilo Hegg (talk) 00:25, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK. Just letting you know, most people sign what they write here with 4 tildes (~~~~) to show other people that who said what. As for everything else (intro and descriptions), do you think there are any references out there for them? Unfortunately, at Wikipedia, we can't add stuff to articles that we just "know", no matter how well we know it :). Let me know if you can find any. :) Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 00:22, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for this, I will look for more references, and the tip on how to sign posts is certainly useful Danilo Hegg (talk) 00:28, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Also, when people edit a page, at the bottom before clicking save, it's normally best to write an edit summary in the little box above the save button. Just write a brief description of what you did, whether you added some references, fixed spelling or replied to someone's comments. It just helps others see what changes you made. Try it. :) Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 00:34, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
