Speedy deletion nomination of Pity the Fool edit

A tag has been placed on Pity the Fool requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ~Darth Starbo 22:32, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article deletion edit

Hi guys, It took me a while, but I had to wait for 'Pity the Fool' to release a new song, now the song is number 3 on the South African charts. Here's the link to follow up on the proof of my statement:http://www.tuksfm.co.za/Chart.aspx?DETAILID=7, now this band is notable according to the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music) section two on page one. Please see to this and thanks again for your support. Kind regards (Danielptf (talk) 08:35, 21 July 2010 (UTC))Reply

Hi! Your article was deleted because it was judged not to live up to wikipedia's standards of notability and verifiability. If you could provide reliable sources (such as newspaper articles or reviews) we could base an article on that. Basically we need to be able to verify the information in the articles here. Read some of the links above and let me know if you have more questions. Best wishes/ Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 14:47, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not to be rude or anything, but how many references do you guys want? Because from those 3 external links given, you can access ALL the information given on the page as well as going on to 'Oppikoppi's' website and actually see if we played there (ex. http://www.mio.co.za/article/oppikoppi-is-declared-a-national-monument-2009-07-30 OR http://www.biz-community.com/Article/196/432/38418.html). Click on all the external links, google it if you have to, and see if you can find one thing i'm lying about.. What do I have to do to get the page up and running again? more links then? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielptf (talkcontribs) 16:13, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The problem is that there is no evidence that this band is notable according to the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music). Performing at a music festival (as documented in your two links) does not make a band notable. --Orlady (talk) 16:24, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
PS - Are you a publicist for this band? If so, you need to be aware that Wikipedia is not a free online advertising service -- and does not take kindly to contributions from people closely connected to an article topic. See WP:NOT and WP:COI. --Orlady (talk) 16:24, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm not the publicist but thanks for the advise, will see into it. Where can i post rectification on the band being 'notable' then(to get my page back)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielptf (talkcontribs) 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey, in the future, please sign your posts. Use four tildes (~~~~) to automatically add your signature and a timestamp.
If you can document that the band meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music), post your evidence here, and somebody will look at it. I hasten to point out that nothing in the deleted article so much as hinted that the band might meet those criteria. --Orlady (talk) 17:04, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Has this band received coverage from reliable sources such as well-known newspapers or magazines? If so, you need to add references to those sources. If not, then the band doesn't pass our notability criteria (to which Orlady linked), so Wikipedia shouldn't have an article about it. If you believe that the band has enough reliable sources to pass the notability criteria, tell me and I'll be happy to undelete the article so that you can improve it. Please understand, by the way, that I virtually never do anything with pop culture topics, so I don't myself know whether a source is reliable or authoritative or anything like that; if you want advice, you can post a request for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music. Nyttend (talk) 17:17, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great, thank you Orlady, the band meets 2 of the stated criteria and just 1 is sufficient. Its difficult to get evidence on them, but have e-mailed a few stations and will see if they can give me any proof on these matters. Thank you for your assistance, will get back to you soon Daniel (Danielptf (talk) 17:59, 21 April 2010 (UTC))Reply

Note that to establish notability, you will need to be able to cite third-party published reliable sources, as Nyttend stated. E-mail from a radio station will not suffice. --Orlady (talk) 18:28, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. Your edits have the effect of being vandalism and have been partially reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you.
Please be more careful in the future -- your plea for help did not belong on that project page, and you overwrote important content that does belong there. Your edits to a couple of users' talk pages have also overwritten content.

Possible conflict of interest edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Pity the Fool, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Given your user name, the name of the drummer for the band (Daniel) and the band's initials (PTF), it seems as if you might have a possible conflict of interest, hence this notice. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:29, 21 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Daniel, someone else saw your question to me and responded. He said it better than I could, so please go to my talk page and see his response to you; it's at the very bottom of the page. Nyttend (talk) 22:57, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Autobiography edit

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:56, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm getting nowhere with this and have put a lot of effort in trying to open this for the band. I am not the Daniel you referring to, but ok, please can you delete my page and my account, I am officially forfeiting. Well done and thanks for the support nonetheless.
