Yes, in the "pending changes" approval mode, I just see the final state, and what was there was not sourced. When I did not "accept" the content as it was, it rolled back everything to the last "accepted" version, including your good edit [1] fixing part of the bad edits that came prior. And the system just saw that your edit was part of the content that was undone, so it gave you the standard notice.
