Hello Dania Akkawi. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Rania Al-Mashat, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dania Akkawi. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dania Akkawi|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Melcous (talk) 10:43, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello,
My name is Dania Akkawi and I am from Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat's communications team. We need to edit the wikipedia page based on the fact that the Minister now has a new bio and new title.
https://moic.gov.eg/page/ministers-bio
I am not being compensated for any of these edits at all. I am simply doing them because we need to update the Minister's wikipedia page to reflect her current title, position & responsibilities.
Best,
Dania Dania Akkawi (talk) 10:58, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dania, as you work in communications for Al-Mashat, you do fall under wikipedia's definition of a WP:PAID editor. As such, you must properly disclose this. This is not optional, but is a condition you agreed to when you created an account here and if you edit again without doing so you may be banned. Once you have done that, you may propose changes on the talk page, but should not edit the article directly. Melcous (talk) 14:43, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay that's totally fine with me, I can disclose. I read that I am supposed to disclose it in the summary edit, so I did a trial now and wrote this in the summary edit:
I am an employee for Minister Al-Mashat, and I am disclosing it in my edit summary.. I made minor amends to the page. 1) The spelling of her name is Al- not El- based on her LinkedIn, Instagram & Twitter profile. 2) She is no longer the Minister of International Cooperation. She is now the Minister of Planning, Economic Development & International Cooperation. I made that edit in the first paragraph & in the summary box..
I am not sure if there a more clear way to disclose this, and I am trying to add it on my user page now. Dania Akkawi (talk) 16:07, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. An edit summary is made when you make an edit to an article. You should also create your user page User:Dania Akkawi and make a disclosure there, using the Template:Paid. In future, please do not edit the article directly. You can instead make suggestions on its talk page, which is most easily done using the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard/Paid. Note, based on your and Karimshawarby84's disclosures, I have added a Template:Connected contributor (paid) to the talk page of the article. Melcous (talk) 23:01, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello,
Thanks for explaining, I did the user page now but let me know if that's correctly done? I haven't tried the wikipedia edit request wizard/ paid, but I will give it a try as well. Dania Akkawi (talk) 08:29, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
