A few thoughts

edit

I moved these here rather than put them on the rape culture talk page because they're for you rather than about the article. I'm glad to have you as a productive editor (even if I don't always agree with the edits you make), and it's good to see you're figuring out some of the technical stuff. A few suggestions, though:

  1. When you're adding to an ongoing discussion, it's usually considered polite to add your reply after the message you're replying to. (I realize that this is contrary to the reply-first abomination perpetuated by email editors; I did it wrong for the longest time.) Colons can be used to indent your message to separate the original message from your reply. If the discussion is 6 or 7 indents in, you can use {{outdent}} to shift your reply all the way to the left. (This is especially common on pages like Rape Culture where discussions go many replies deep.)
  2. When editing an article, one larger revision is preferable to several smaller ones. This is mainly for ease of figuring out changes using the history tab and for being nice to the servers, but it's a real minor deal. Don't worry too much unless you find yourself making more than 3 small edits to a single article in a row.
  3. You can always make yourself a user page. It's not required, especially if you want to remain private, but I enjoy knowing who other editors are.
  4. Help:Wikipedia:The Missing Manual is your best friend for learning the ropes here. I wish I'd had it when I was just figuring things out.

Welcome to Wikipedia, and I hope you stay. Feel free to respond here, and if you ever have an questions or need help, just leave a note on my talk page and I'll get right back to you. Cheers! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:42, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Jon Gaunt, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Materialscientist (talk) 21:51, 7 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
