Public domain edit

It is in fact ok to upload photographs of his works taken by someone else, too, per Wikipedia:Public_domain#Non-creative_works. Copyright requires creativity. His works have expired from protection, and just taking a picture of them is not creative, i.e. not copyrightable. ("Following Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp., a simple reproductive photograph of a two-dimensional artwork does not give rise to a new copyright on the photograph. "). So you can safely upload any and all works of this artist here (or better yet, to Wikimedia Commons). If you'd like, you can upload one and ask me to review it, and I'll you what, if anything, needs to be improved in the upload. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:20, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Found That Soul notability edit

I noticed you removed the {{notability}} tag on Found That Soul. It is my understanding that in order for a subject, in this case a single, to be considered Wikipedia-notable it must feature on more than one chart, or appear on a chart and have other supportive independent references (which this article doesn't). Does this differ from your understanding? Lachlan Foley (talk) 06:41, 23 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Slghtly odd wrinkles edit

I'm working Slightly Odway, I have some problems:

  1. When was "Jerks of Attention" released as a single? Single's article has 12 August 1996 with official launch in the following December. Album article has January 1997, band article agrees with latter date.
  2. Album "was recorded between March and May 1997". Conflicts with previous information.
  3. "and eventually went double-platinum" Take40 is not reliable enough for certs or for charting. ARIA has single plat, here. I couldn't find an ARIA ref for double plat.

Could you help to even out these odd wrinkles?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:20, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Could you adjust the single's & band's articles for date of release of "Jerks", I'll continue work in a Slightly Odway.
I would still prefer ARIA or Aus Charts Portal for double plat. But those sources could still be useful for reception.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:55, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jubestar reply edit

You may have trouble finding an online source. What you need is the ARIA report from ca. 4 September 2000, which would be around issue #548. Pandora only archives from issue #566 onwards.

You might try a query at an Australian Charts Portal forum. Back in April 2011 this thread by Savage Grant (Grant Dawe?) agrees with Dawe's blog site. If you could get an answer from a staff member at Australian Charts Portal, e.g. Gary Lyon (aka bulion), instead of a guest member then you could use that as verification of an ARIA charting position.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sources for Jubestar-related material:
  • Biography at AMO
  • Booster EP at NLA, released in November 1997
  • Jubestar, search for Jubestar, as Performer, at APRA website. I get 12 tracks, most are co-written by LJ and J Packer. Other co-writers are A Breitung and E Scott.
  • Quinert's bio: claims to be a former member. Site is probably not independently reliable.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:04, 10 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Harpoon or "Harpoon"? edit

The current article, which was created 97 months ago by some Dan arndt or another, is disambiguated as a song. Back in May 2009, Harpoon (Jebediah), was moved to its current title. The content reads as if its about a single.

At 23 odd mins and with 6 tracks it easily qualifies as an EP. The band's nav plate and the main band article lists it as an EP.

So what gives? Should we sharpen it up and fire it at Harpoon (EP)? Or do we leave it lying on deck?

Teflon edit

Two minor sticking points:

  1. Should infobox list both Sing Sing Studios and Revolver Studios (for one of the tracks)?
  2. Was King involved on "You"? if not, you should add (except "You") after King's attribution.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:37, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

  2. Likewise Gyroscope (Demo) (1998)?
    1. Additionally is (Demo) part of its title? Or is to be added in a footnote?
  3. My knee-jerk reaction is to put Injuring Yourself Whilst Making Music into a Compilation albums subsection – is this appropriate?
  4. Around the World in 16 Songs (2004) is a split album. Should it appear with Studio albums or be added to Compilation albums? In either case, another footnote is needed.

Gyro job for Dan edit

There's a bunch of photos, not being used, at Commons. Unfortunately they're all shots of individuals and so not that great for the infobox. However, if you can figure out who is who then use the best/most recent individual shots of each band member for the main text.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:57, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Are Gyro no more? The website, here, doesn't appear to have been updated since July 2011 (almost four years ago!) Do they still tour/perform without any new releases since Cohesion's "Fifty500"? Do you have any recent news of them?
I see they started touring late last year to celebrate 10 years since Sound...

Another question: should we include The Best of Gyroscope (7 May 2010) in the discography article? AllMusic mentions it here, SMH news report here, Billboard report here, and seems to be available in shops here. The article indicates that it was removed from iTunes and stores but I don't know if thats completely true. I believe it should be included in the Gyroscope discography article under Compilation albums. What's your take?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:13, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

WM edit

Has the case for having a separate list become substantially different? If 20 noms were not enough back in '09, are 25 going to be any better? First lets see if we can find more noms, improve the article's section on these awards/noms, make better wikitables and then see if we've got a case for returning the article from redirect land. If it's kept we'd then have to take it to FLC and see whether it floats there.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:53, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

As you can see I've added a few awards and whole bunch of Triple J Hottest 100s. I see, in the article, that they supposedly picked up a bunch of Rolling Stone accolades but the ref is their management (not reliable) and the url has moved to Cosmic Egg version, so there is little on the earlier stuff. I looked online but could only find the US version of RS with a review of the debut alb but no mention of those accolades.
I haven't combined tables per Other awards, yet. Nor have I made the tables sortable. I'll be working on it, soon.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:37, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've worked the tables: they're sorted. Still no sign of Rolling Stone accolades?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:04, 22 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, work the redirect version here, bring LoaanrbW back from its page history, here (almost six years ago!). Then we can work on its Lead and refs.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:23, 22 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Since LoaanrbW is back, shouldn't you trim the main article down to a simpler subsectn & provide a link to the returned list?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:01, 28 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Don't you like reflinks? None there.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:42, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Once we update the wikitables, they'll have a header, e.g. "List of studio albums, with selected chart positions and certifications". This means we get to decide which charts to display. I believe the standard maximum is ten charts. The current table has 14 but ignores CAN (should be included due to gold alb). So we have to cut back on some of these charts. Other notable charting/information could be added to a note per style of "Far Away" & others.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 21:15, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

You're working the tables real fine. My counter proposal for albs chart, with only ten charts (but includes CAN), is available here. What do you think?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:40, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Can you add CAN?

Aside: is "Heavy Weight" director, here? Or is he just the cover artist? Was it released as a single?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:57, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

  1. According to here: "The band has also unleashed a video for the trippy, fuzzy single ‘Heavy Weight’ (as seen above)".
  2. New Single in NL: here.
  3. "Available to stream below along with the official video for its lead single “Heavy Weight,” ", here
All these imply it was issued as a single.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:21, 30 June 2015 (UTC)11:22, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

CAN: Wolfmother did chart at No. 29 but Billboard's listings only shows top 25. My chart has an ARIA report ref for CAN charting of their debut album. It must have stayed in the chart for a fair while to rack up gold cert.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:07, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Adding a note sounds like a good idea (see above, where I write "Other notable charting/information could be added to a note per style of "Far Away" & others.").shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:10, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've updated all the wikitables according to recent FLs. I've used the studio albums chart with ten cols, included CAN. If you prefer AUT over DEN, I have no problem: just change it over.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 11:01, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

What about including something a guy wrote on my talkpage: "featured on the 100 Best Australian Albums". Along the lines of;
"that... Sunnyboys is the 1981 debut studio album by the Australian power pop group of the same name, which featured in the 2010 book 100 Best Australian Albums?"

Whitlams' queries edit

  1. If Lewis died in mid-February why did it take till April for the group to find out?
    1. According to here, "The Whitlams toured hard with Love This City in 1999/2000 and did a fair few shows in North America. At a live show at Ronnie Scott’s in London in 2006 Tim explained that towards the end of the tour, news came through that Andy Lewis, the original bass player of The Whitlams and subject of Blow Up the Pokies, had hanged himself in Australia due to his gambling addiction."shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 12:01, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

    1. Only double platinum by August 2008, see ARIA Report 963 for 140,000 shipments. Triple platinum is 210,000. Claim for 4× seems unverifiable.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:18, 17 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Karuna Nadee deletion is very unfair Decision edit

Last month Dan arndt deleted Rawan Nada Article of mine ,Dan mentioned that it has no recognition and importance, then i gave many web links about it,aLos Dan mentioned it all about Dinesh Subasinghe and his album Karuna Nadee, now i will present this link about its record,it was the most sold instrumental album in sri lanka, sri lanka is a country with a small population 20 miliion,so it wont be like a hollywood production,i try my best to bring out the data of local artists to the world, valuable things are happening here,so why cant wikipedia support us to bring our data to the world,we have a historical heritage for 2500 years and still some important art work are happening, event after 30- years war

  • Rawan nada has been deleted ,but it was the first ever music album by the historical instrument known as Ravanahatha

Dan arndt saying it dosen't have any recognition or importance

  • Karuna Nadee is an album after decades based on an Oratorio.its very rare to find Album based an oratorio.

Unnecessary citations on Models album articles edit

I see you are reverting the edits I have done on the Models album articles. You might like to read WP:MOSALBUM: there is no need to provide a citation for every song composer; those citation references unnecessarily clutter up what should be a simple track listing. BlackCab (TALK) 08:05, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm puzzled by why you are edit warring on the Models album articles without even bothering to discuss your changes. MOSALBUM is quite clear. BlackCab (TALK) 09:19, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. I am referring, of course to the set of articles on albums by The Models. Regardless of whether you think your special style is superior, the guide produced by members of WikiProject Albums should be adhered to for the sake of consistency. TLE disco edit

  1. Put "Rising Sun" in the other appearances table.
  2. "Second Solution" / "Prisoner of Society" issue is more complicated, McFarlane describes it as a CD single. Nimmervoll calls it an EP and a "single" when listing it at #1 on the top Australian singles of the 90s. Hung has Single CD Maxi. Christie Eliezer (Billboard, here) calls it a " runaway chart-topper EP". Paul Cashmere (Undercover, here) has it as the "longest charting single in ARIA history" (until December 2007 with SSS's "I Love It"). Oz Music Project has it as an EP (here). Carmine Pascuzzi has " double A side single" (here).
    1. I'm tempted to leave it in both tables but modify the existing note to better indicate the EP/single/double-A side/CD Maxi problem.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:03, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
  3. I'm working tables. I'm up to Video albums: at least one has charted at No. 3 on the ARIA DVD chart, I'm consulting ARIA Reports (time consuming) but will get on to singles soon.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 09:26, 16 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

  5. That's a good summary sheet which gives us more to find and verify. On its own, because its a PR sheet, caution is needed for many of its claims.
    1. Delete the entries you can't find, triple J does play tracks from albums which then make it to their listings but are not actual singles.
    2. As far as I can tell, "Tainted Love" was a B-side of "All Torn Down" (December 1998), it was listed at Triple J but it was not an actual single.
    3. Footnotes for Aus only releases are not needed: we already have table footer with "releases that did not chart or were not released in that territory."shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:53, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
  6. Now that you've added Blow Your Loudspeaker: I believe this affects Other appearances, as some of those tracks are on this compilation album.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 10:51, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

    1. So, we need a subSectn for As featured artist, with its charting info.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 06:26, 19 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
      1. Not sure now, I don't think it was a single, just a song on his 2014 album. Maybe it goes to Other appearances?shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 07:24, 19 September 2015 (UTC) That's what I did.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 22:52, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Template:Did you know nominations/Old Nupe Market edit

Dan arndt, there are unfortunately significant close paraphrasing and reliable source issues with this nomination. I notice that you're on wikibreak for the next five weeks; if this means you won't be able to work on the Old Nupe Market article to address these issues, then the DYK nomination will have to be closed, and I'll also have to edit the article so these issues are no longer present. I hope you see this soon, since you have been doing occasional edits, and can let me know your plans. Thank you very much, and sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I saw that you edited Wikipedia yesterday and did not respond here, though it would have taken only a minute or so to reply. Under the circumstances, and given that close paraphrasing is a serious matter, I'm going to have to close the DYK nomination and remove the problematic sections from the article. WM again? edit

Belated welcome back to wp from your extended break. As you can tell, Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of awards and nominations received by Wolfmother/archive1, the list was not promoted. Not because of an inherent problems but because not enough reviewers had supported it. It had one extensive review by Cowlibob and was supported. Three days later it was canned by one of the three administrators of the FLCs. Accordingly I asked for clarification at PresN's talkpage. From what I can tell, its a bit of a walled garden: to get our lists to FL we have to do an unspecified number of reviews, get our names out there and then ask candidates if the would review our lists in return!shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:28, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Re: Jena K. Siva edit

I agree notability still needs to be established, but BLP prod is only for articles with no sources at all. "To place a BLPPROD tag, the process requires that the article contain no sources in any form (as references, external links, etc.), which support any statements made about the person in the biography. ... Only add a BLPPROD if there are no sources in any form that name the subject, but once (properly) placed, it can only be removed if a reliable source is added."

IMDb isn't an ideal source, but as far as I know, the unreviewed contributor content is mainly in the biographical material, rather than the list of credits. There are lots of hits in Google for "Jena K. Siva" though I don't know how reliable they are. Espresso Addict (talk) 10:03, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sri Lanka Rugby Championship edit

Hi Dan.

Good work on this draft - it's an article about Sri Lankan rugby that's been missing for some time.

Will list a few comments for you to consider.

  • I think the history section should be split into a few sub-sections (but not too many) for various eras. This makes it easier for the reader to digest. Perhaps a brief historical introductory paragraph mentioning the Clifford Cup knockout tournament first.
  • Then use sub-headings for something like:
Early years of the league: 1950 to 1960
League and knockout: 1961 to 1984
League championships: 1985 to 1999
Caltex League: 2000 to 2010
Dialog League: 2012 onward
(Feel free to tweak these to suit)
  • A lot of the text is common to both your draft page and the existing Clifford Cup article. So try to summarise each era in prose. For example
Police SC was the dominant club in the 1980s, winning the 'A' Division league title seven times in the decade.
instead of:
Police SC won the 'A' Division championship 1979 - 1980, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991.
(You don't have to do this verbatim ... it's just an example. Listing all the years is better in a table).
  • A few small things. For the infobox, you don't need both Instituted and Inaugural Season dates. It's clutter, so just use the latter.
And the stub for the Caltex League page should be edited to become a redirect to your history section.

The article needs a bit more about the current format, i.e. how many rounds, and in what months of the year, a list of the teams and their home locations, etc. A competition logo would be a nice option, and photos the next step up again. But you don't need these to publish in the main space. Most important thing is including reference citations. Just polish up what you've got a bit more and save it. Then other editors can start to help improving it. -- Ham105 (talk) 08:02, 2 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Dialog Rugby League edit

Hi Dan, Good work on the article. One thing you probably should change, though, is the logo used in the infobox - because these things should be under a Non-free use rationale (see an example here) for a logo rather than an 'own work' free licence. Otherwise it is fairly likely to be deleted soon.

But it is actually good to learn how to do this via the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. It's a good idea to save the image as a .png file (these also allow a transparent background, etc., whereas .jpeg does not). Another thing with Non-free use images is they cannot be placed on the commons or in sandboxes. But the advantage is a legitimate rationale for using the image, and the image will not be subject to deletion. -- Ham105 (talk) 04:43, 30 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Rajjumala edit

Hello Dan arndt, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted Rajjumala, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. The WordsmithTalk to me 20:02, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thank You Berty edit

Before we have the influx of drive-bys by editors incapable of or unwilling to use WP:BEFORE, I invite you back to the article. Took a lot of digging, and more would be good, but the article is now better than than brand new stub that was first brought to AFD. Sri Lankan films are a pain to cite, but I think I set a decent example. Cheers, Schmidt, Michael Q. 02:07, 18 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
