Robert Hetzron

Driss, you formed two distinct thought process that do not follow with each other. I am not sure you are going to be helpful in this discussion without organizing.

1)You spoke, in a manner that is rude, to defend the junk scienc of Robert Hetzron, who I think is also Mr Gasser.What a name! Like a gasser in Nazi Austchwiz camp. A polite way of wanting to know why I described Robert as questionable would be to ask me to state my reasons. Another blind assumption you made was Robert did his best "to enrich our knowledge" of Ethiopian languages. To the contrary, he was a lazy person. Assuming you assumption was right and his linguistic conclusions end up being junk science, what good is he for our enlightment?

2) As I have indicated in (1), your pertinet question would be to ask me to state my reasons for putting Robert's linguistic genius in the rigt place. Instead you jumped to ask me what my mother tongue is. I hope you see the disconnect.

Hi, I am sorry if you feel like this about my questins. That wasn't my intention. As you can see from my user page, I am not a mother tounge speaker of English. I also didn' want to imply anything by formulating my comment together with my question. But I don't think that I spoke in a rude manner. At least I don't know which of my words can be judged as rude. In contrast, I think your mentioning of Naz and so is a little bit out of place.

Now concerning Hetzron and his work on Ethiopian languages. I think instead of just calling his work junkn it woul be better if you explain in which work/publication you criticize, which mistakes he did, and so on. Otherwise no one will be able to follow your thoughts. When I write that he enriched our knowledge than I mean that before when someone wanted to know about Gurage languages there was no possibility to get this kind of informations. After he did his work everyone could look into his publications and find some information. As long as no-one writes something which corrects his findings they are the only available source of information. So instead of just accusing him, it would be better to say in this and in that pint he was wrong.

The reason why I asked you is the fact tat a good friend of mine did and still does linguistic studies on some Gurage languages. He worked on Zay and Wolane, and at the moment he works on Muher. There are also other people like Sharon Rose, Degif Petros, Berhanu Chamora and others who worked on different Gurage languages. I my self work on the Argobba language. So the reason why I asked you is that I hoped to learn something new from you about Gurage languages. You a linguist studying Arogoba? And, you know some other linguists? Yet, you have no knowledge of linguistic authors on Gurague dialects ealier than Robert Hetzron? While being a linguist or a linguistics student, you don't know Robert's unsatisfactory language study methods , therefore, his conclusions were flawed. What else you don't know? You don't know where you were rude to me. At least, it was not your intention. You don't know enough English to express your thoughts clearly in organized fashion because it's not your mother tongue. Adios!

Hi, I tried to be polite. Concerning my English, I don't think that the choice of words in my first comment was rude. May be you didn’t understand it correctly. No English mother tongue speaker would denote the words “a little bit harsh” as being “rude”. In fact, I have enough competence in English to write scientific articles. But I have the impression that you, also not being a mother tongue speaker of English, didn’t understand everything what I wrote. Coming back to Hetzron, I certainly know other and earlier authors who wrote on Gurage languages, because that is my profession. But we talked about Hetzron and you didn’t produce one single example for the mistakes or the bad methods your are accusing him. So as long as no one is able to see your objections towards him, they remain just irrelevant. Anyhow, I apologize for taking your time and won’t continue bothering you. Bye!
