In principio erat Verbum...

Statue - The Thinker - Auguste Rodin - In principio erat Verbum, et Verbum erat apud Deum, et Deus erat Verbum...

In principio erat Verbum, et Verbum erat apud Deum, et Deus erat Verbum... (In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...) (St. John, Gospel of: ch.1., v.1) - but - hmmm - before the Word came the Thought - Cogito ergo sum (French: "Je pense donc je suis"; English: "I think, therefore I am") - so, what came first, the Word, or the Thought - and if the Thought - that was God - so Consciousness of Existence was God first - hmmm - I can live with that!

I am subject to Solemn Oaths, sworn on the Bible, unto, God, Queen, and Country, to, Keep the Peace, of God, Queen, and Country; Tell the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth, of God, Queen, and Country; Promulgate my Knowledge of the Royal Division, of God, Queen, and Country; and Assert and Protect the Rights of all Subjects under the Crown, of God, Queen, and Country, to the Use and Enjoyment of all Works and Highways, of God, Queen, and Country, within the limits of my Various and Several Authorities and Commissions, from God, Queen, and Country: All to the Best of my Ability within the Law of God, Queen, and Country.

County Surveyor

edit

Hi... I've just been looking at the article on County Surveyor. It's obvious from your additions to the article that you have a great passion for the topic! :) I wonder, though, if it's possible that there is too much information now. Remember that this is an encyclopedia and I don't think it's necessarily a good thing to weigh an article down with information that might be best included in a "See Also" section that would guide interested readers to such information. My fear is that someone accessing the page looking for a simple explanation on what a county surveyor is and does would be frustrated. You might want to take a look through the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Just my 2 cents.  :) Wikipelli Talk 12:02, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

A suggestion

edit

I wonder if I could ask you to copy your revisions to the County Surveyor article to your userspace and work on formulating the article there? Then revert the article back to the state before you began editing? My reasoning is twofold: one, by the comments left within the article, there is more work that you need to do to complete it to your liking and, two, because I believe that the edits and additions really need to be reviewed by an experienced editor who can perhaps guide you towards creating a good article for Wikipedia. I would be happy to review the progress or perhaps you would prefer another editor... it really doesn't matter who reviews it. I believe, however, that the edits recently are way off the mark in terms of style and content. What do you think? Wikipelli Talk 21:34, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your Draft

edit

Hi DadrianT, Esq. I've moved your draft of County Surveyor to a userspace page. You can find it linked on your userpage under "Drafts", or here: User:DadrianT,Esq/County Surveyor draft page. I'm sorry if this has caused you any stress, it's not a critique of your writing (you are a fine writer). Wikipedia articles have to be concise to work - remember we aren't writing for experts but for the general public. Please contact myself or Wikipelli with any questions, and we can help you figure out how to get the article expanded to Wikipedia's standards. Good luck with your revisions, The Interior (Talk) 02:43, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Interior! I think now, Adrian, you can edit, see the 'live' edits, and polish the article to your content in your own user space. As I said, I'll be happy to help, or I'm certain that there are other editors that can critique as you go. It's all about learning! Toward that end, I'd recommend looking over Writing your first article. This page gives good advice to those just starting with writing for Wikipedia. As always, leave a message (brief!) on my talk page and I'll be glad to help however I can! :) Cheers! Wikipelli Talk 11:34, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

- for your guidance, suggestions, and encouragement; and particularly for creating the drafting page for me and inserting my final edit of the County Surveyor article in it - I am pleased to see Rodin's Thinker and the opening concepts of the Gospel of St. John - they were of great help to me both last night and this morning in clarifying my memories of my past life and the knowledge I have stored in my head about it - I am ready now to start editing my drafting page, as the spirit guides called up for me by that visualisation from Rodin and that sutra from St John while I slept have implanted the perfect concept in my head of how the article needs to be - and do justice to the original author of the page - all I have to do is articulate it in Wikisyssyn (Wiki system syntax) with your guidance and mentoring - so I will bid you, good afternoon, and get on with it - even I wouldn't go to the lengths of calling it an immaculate conception - but I'm very tempted to:) DadrianT,EsqMCIHT (talk) 14:01, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

End of first day's editing

edit

I have made a start on developing the article from scratch - new ideas keep coming to me as i write - so i have NOT been concentrating on reducing the word count, but on articulating my thoughts as precisely as i can.

My present aim is to continue as i am now doing until i feel i have done the article justice and can erase all the text from there to the end, including any graphics i havent used.

That will provide us with a fresh draft to critique, so that we can decide a strategy for shortening the article, without losing too much of the essence of what i have written.

I am not seeking any laurels - all i am seeking is an article which tells as much as is necessary to meet wikipedia policy and be sufficiently informative about what county surveyors are, where they come from, want they do, and perhaps where they are going from here, to do some good.

Its 4:15 in the morning here so i wont say good night - but rather, good day - namaste - DadrianT,EsqMCIHT (talk) 03:21, 7 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

End of second day's editing

edit

it's 09:15 in the morning here - i've been editing all through the night - but the page is coming on well now - i feel that i'm getting close to chucking out the garbage - i'm learning a lot by trail and error - especially in handling the graphics - as i have a higher spatial iq than verbal iq i especially appreciate the opportunity that wikipedia gives editors of inserting illustrations from its graphics library - i'll say adieu now and get some sleep DadrianT,EsqMCIHT (talk) 09:13, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

End of third day's editing

edit

it's 04:54 here - hmmmm - looks like i'm going to get to bed early - i have only reached the point where the etymology of 'county' and 'surveyor' kicks in - therefore, i still have just under a thousand years to write about DadrianT,EsqMCIHT (talk) 03:58, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

End of fourth day's editing

edit

it's 03:53 here - i'm pleased to say that i've drafted background history to the term 'county surveyor' stretching from the christianisation of the roman empire through to, and 20 years on from, the norman conquest of most of england and a small part of wales - i had probably done some of this during the third day's editing, but i've spent some of the fourth day going back and tidying up all my previous drafting - so it is looking a lot better now than it did last night when i went to bed - i hope that my guides and mentors are popping in to read my work through from time to time - i've no responses to it yet - so maybe they are going to i announce that it is finished before speaking up DadrianT,EsqMCIHT (talk) 03:02, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thus endeth the fifth day's editing

edit

it's only 01:25 here, so i might be back - but i am tired - so i'm going to get my head down DadrianT,EsqMCIHT (talk) 00:26, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thus endeth the sixth day

edit

didn't go straight to sleep last night, so went back to our drafting page about County Surveyor, and did a bit more on it - in particular, changing as many of the capitalised first letter of words and names to lower case to reduce the chance of anyone thinking we have a positive bias in favour of those particular words and names, even though, without their capitalised first letter, they make us feel slightly uncomfortable as we are familiar with them wearing those capitalised first letters in the context of our familiarity with them

the article is moving along with some extra subheadings now and some extra text under some of those subheadings - google ebooks is proving to be as useful a source of verifications as the oxford english dictionary online - as many google ebooks can be downloaded free, whereas access to the oxford english dictionary online requires either a fairly expensive personal subscription to it, or, membership of a library or other institution that has taken out an institutional subscription to it, it may be worthwhile checking whether any or all of the oxford english dictionary online references can be replaced by references to any google ebooks that are free to down-load

but not tonight - have decided to spend some time progressing the autobiography of our life - we refer to our identity now and then in the plural because the 'I' in 'me' is at least the third personal identity that 'I' have had in the course of 'my' life due to at least two bouts of severe retrograde amnesia and total loss of personal identity that 'I' know of, in the course of 'my' life - there may have been more - and all the stuff that 'we' are writing in our draft about County Surveyor is dredging up bits of memory from 'our' life before one or other of those bouts - so 'I' am also writing 'our' autobiography alongside the draft County Surveyor article - and tonight - its one minute to midnight to midnight here - 'we' are going to spend some time there in 'our' autobiography

seventh day's editing

edit

The seventh day's editing has taken me four days on-and-off. This has been due to problems I encountered in uploading graphics I had found with a Google Search on some fairly standard 'images' on the subjects of Freemasonry, particularly the membership degrees of the Holy Royal Arch and Chivalry, which are particularly relevant to the history of the officials and their title 'County Surveyor' in the UK from the time of Henry VIII. So I am going to acquire a good quality architectural drawing suite of software, and draw the graphics that I need to finish the article, so that I don't offend the Wiki Copyright Guardian Bots.

There is a specific project for the UK at WP:UKRD. Please though keep the notes and comments in your entry on WP:HWY/P brief. I've intentionally removed content there twice now, and it's still longer than the second-longest entry which also needs pruning. The idea is to give a brief idea of the areas of your interest, not to provide a full résumé on yourself. Imzadi 1979  15:13, 25 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
