So so but thank you for asking. This week hasn't been so great [for me] but this summer has been better than the last few years. No news [from me] quite as good as yours though. Regards, dvdrw 20:39, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for telling me. I'm always happy to read new Russian architecture pages, as well as most any other page about Russian culture, and if you didn't know I read your contribs often so I may have seen it but thanks for telling me when it when you had just written it. Image:Calgary-flames-07-jerseys.jpg edit

Please remove the vandalized version of the image from the image history (22:48, 4 September 2008). I noticed you did the same for the other vandalized Flames image.

Also, is there a formal system for making such image history deletion requests? I haven't been able to figure it out so I'm asking you directly. Kelvinc (talk) 06:07, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kelvinc. Sorry I was offline for a moment, I would have deleted it quicker than I did ;) but I deleted that version as you requested. In future instances, which are somewhat rare for vandalised images, I would make a request at images for deletion and say that you want a vandalised version speedily deleted and give some details about which version etc. dvdrw 06:35, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks (Sidney Eisenshtat) edit

Hey dvdrw,

Thank you for your nice note. I am glad you liked the little piece on Sidney Eisenshtat. I couldn't decide if it was worth a DYK nom or not, especially since I have not nominated one of my own articles before.

Also thanks for the offer re the rollback button. I would be pleased to accept your offer--I would like to try to do my part.--Arxiloxos (talk) 00:29, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Judenplatz edit

hi DVD, thanks a lot. I try my best to make good images that can be used, I'm not an expert and my camera sometimes fails me, but you gotta try. I was thinking about adding the map as well, I didn't do it because it's an older one (for example the monument is missing on it). The map can stay, maybe we should an explanation that it's a bit older (probably before WW2). But I agree, sooner or later we need to have a good map with explanations on it (maybe colour-coded with a legend). ciao Gryffindor 08:08, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Israeli architects edit

Hi DVD R W, and thanks for the warm comments! I would really like to write more articles about Israeli architects, such as Mansfeld and Kahat, Dov Karmi, etc. However, unfortunately, information on them online is severely lacking, and I don't have any offline sources at the moment. The Hebrew Wikipedia is a good place to start writing, but it doesn't usually list sources, which makes it difficult to create decent articles which also comply with the English Wiki standards. As for DYK, I thought about it, but didn't come up with a single well-sourced fact I think would be interesting. You are welcome to nominate the article though :) DYKs weren't technically meant to be self-noms, when originally conceived. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 22:54, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi again! No hard feelings about withdrawing the nomination—you might want to add the Knesset refs to the actual article though. Thanks for your RfA support :)
About Yaski vs. Yasky, I support Yaski, as it seems to be the common name, WP:HE-compliant, and also the preferred named by the firm, Moore-Yaski-Sivan Architects. The merge tag has been up for ages, so I don't see a problem with merging right now, but we can talk about this more if you believe that Yasky should be the proper article name. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:35, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Follow-up: Apparently the tag hasn't been up for ages, I guess I confused it with another case from long ago. Thanks for noticing this, and let's merge the articles ASAP. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 20:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
You're right about the firm's site, guess I overlooked that because I distinctly remember them using an i in many real-life instances—different departments maybe. Anyway, I still support the i spelling because the self-defined name is non-binding on Wikipedia, but at least this gives some weight to the y argument. I will merge/redirect to i right now (since you trust me :)), but we can analyze this further if you want. At the most, the article can always be moved back. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:02, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Nevermind about the merge/redirect, apparently you already did it. Meanwhile, I created 2 redirects for Moore Yaski Sivan Architects :) -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:05, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Interview? edit

Hello, I'm a computer science grad student at the UW doing some wikipedia research. We're kicking off a study on dispute resolution and were looking for a couple people in the Seattle area who might be interested in being interviewed. Would you be interested? Let me know!!! Thanks, Leafman (talk) 18:22, 3 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for considering me for an interview. Let me think about it, though honestly, I don't know if I have much to say about dispute resolution on Wikipedia. I find it an interesting topic to read about though. DVD 23:40, 3 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ely Jacques Kahn edit

My friend, I never forget a request (which is why it's been on my Talk forever). I have shot three of the buildings, but still need to upload. I'm not so happy with them, but they were the best I could do. The Squibb Building is razor thing, sandwiched between two other buildings. Film Center is massive, so I there's a tiny area cut off. Universal Film is okay. Will put them here when they are uploaded, and you can choose. Best, David Shankbone 10:51, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shfaram Ancient Synagogue edit

I noticed that you added the Shfaram Ancient Synagogue to the ancient synagogues category. That category, to which there a number oof shuls that need to be added, is for "ancient" synagogues in the sense used by historians, i.e. , no later than the sixth century CE. I think we could usefully add several categories. "Nineteenth century synagogues in Israel" "Eighteenth century synagogues in Israel" and so forth going back. What do you think?Historicist (talk) 12:43, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree with what you are saying, except that I didn't add that category. I added the pl: interwiki.[1] Regards, DVD 17:30, 4 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

your opinion, please edit

Would you be willing to take a quick look at an argument about tags on the page "a land without a people for a people without a land" Thanks. Historicist (talk) 13:47, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

At a quick glance, what you are doing makes sense to me. I think those tags are too ostentatious for articles as a matter of principle, and it seems excessive to me to tag a page for the reasons given, that's my opinion. But I haven't really read the whole story. I don't like tags on articles at all, but the difficulty is to convince the other editor that the article doesn't need them. I looked it over but don't have much time at the moment, though I can read more later in the week. Regards, DVD 21:21, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Israel Prize edit

Hi DVD! I'm afraid that only winners of Israel Prizes in 2000 (5760) and later have personal biographies on that website. As far as architects go, that includes Ram Karmi, Ya'akov Ya'ar [2] and Ada Karmi-Melamed.[3] Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 09:25, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi again! I have just looked at the Avraham Yaski article, and unfortunately cannot find any more information :( I actually know very little about Israeli architecture, or indeed architecture in general, but wrote about Karmi in the past because I thought it was an affront to Israel on Wikipedia that there was no article about the famous architect. I will still try to come up with something though, but Google turns up nothing, so far, that isn't already in the article (including Hebrew searches). I am assuming a copy of Rothbard's book cannot be found anywhere online. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 23:59, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Although I still haven't found anything, you'll be pleased to know that I retouched the original image of Aryeh Sharon. New version. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:50, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The most important thing, IMO, is to ask Arielaloni for the uncompressed files. These ones have extremely destructive compression, which makes restoration efforts difficult. I'll do it later if you don't feel up to it. About OTRS, I don't know too much about the process, so if you do, don't hesitate to talk to him :) we need more free images, especially PD. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 22:27, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Arieh Sharon edit

Hi guys... I would be more then happy to help with more pics, Sharon is my grandfather and my mother has plenty of materials. BTW: the retouch of the Bogart tribute is great! I am also an amateur photographer... unfortunately, most of the images I have are in jpg, but I will try to get more negatives and scan (I have a Nikon scanner) at home, we'll see, will take some time, though, not sure the negatives exists. About the Wikipedia mechanics of copy rights: I am a bit lost in the lingo and procedures, so any help will be appreciated. On the copy rights: my mother has plenty of pictures and is formally part of the estate, so there should be no issue. Hope this helps... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arielaloni (talkcontribs) 01:59, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ariel! Please try to get some pictures of significant buildings in very high resolution (about 3000x2000 and above, which any scanner is capable of), and then maybe one of Wikipedia's professional restorationists (I am an amateur) will feel up to restoring it. Also the WikiMedia Israel child project PikiWiki will hopefully be holding a competition for this stuff sometime this year, with decent prizes, so I will keep you posted on that too.
About copyrights, here is a short explanation:
1. Any pictures which are not copyrighted, and you own and release the copyright, should be uploaded to WikiMedia Commons so that they can be used on all WikiMedia projects.
2. If you want to release absolutely all rights and let anyone use the picture for any purpose, you should release it into public domain (as you did already), although you can also use the {{Attribution}} template which gives you slightly more rights. Public domain means that if I slightly modify your image in a way that displays original authorship, I can claim copyright to it (under Israeli law), although it's the most free and least restrictive.
3. If you want to release the copyrights for an image, but still want to reserve certain rights like attribution, and forcing others to use the same license (essentially insuring that the image stays free), you should use {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} on WikiMedia Commons. The explanation is in the template.
4. Images that were taken in 1958 and before in Israel are automatically public domain, you just need to post them with {{PD-Israel}} on Commons.
5. Images that fall into #1–#3 where it is unclear who holds the copyright, and you claim to be the holder, often need to go through the OTRS process, where you need to send the picture to one of their checkers to have it approved, but I have never used this process and therefore don't know much about it. Hopefully DVD can explain this one.
Hope that helped. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 11:13, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The AfD was no spark edit

the AfD was no spark....I knew that it was heading for delete before I started writing it....The spark if that is what you wish to term it is the general appalling state of IP conflict articles...this I noted 3 years ago....maybe I am in too much of a hurry and want everything put right yesterday...Ashley kennedy3 (talk) 11:33, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm very sorry, DVD, that I didn't respond. Your edit must have been lost in the others I received, and with the RfB going on, my wikitime is a bit scatter-brained, so I guess just plumb missed it. Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group edit

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided - one is April 8 (Wednesday) starting at 6 pm and the other is April 18 (Saturday) starting at 10 am. (Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration.) Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 17:41, 5 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Zvi Hecker edit

I did what you asked, although it might need to be expanded. Basically Hecker equates his planning of Bahad 1 with ancient cities surrounded by walls, where (in Bahad 1's case) the wall is the buildings themselves, and the 'city' is the empty space inside. This creates an 'ecosystem' inside which makes it feel like the person is less in the middle of nowhere. —Ynhockey (Talk) 23:28, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Please don't worry about asking more question, and I'll be happy to answer any others you have, if I can! Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 23:29, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I added some more stuff (might need copyediting), which I believe to be everything of use from that article. I don't feel comfortable adding anything else, as it would be borderline WP:SYNTH on my part—Hecker doesn't actually say much, and some of what I told you is my personal logical interpretation. I hope you improve the article further! Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 15:46, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

BP Pedestrian Bridge edit

Thanks for moving the map - since I plan to move some text around I was going to look at the images last - Tony likes to have more double or even triple images than I do, but the MOS definitely says not to sandwich text between images. I had wondered about putting the map into a navbox at the bottom of each Millennium Park article but am not that good at templates. I will also reply on the bidge's talk page. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 12:36, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm, {{Millennium Park}} has some information on the architects and such that is not on the clickable map. The map is also very small in it and would be difficult to label legibly. I had thought about putitng the map and File:2005-10-13 2880x1920 chicago above millennium park.jpg side by side across the bottom, between the article and the references. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:48, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
I did the map by hand based on the official map and several photographs, the map would have to be expanded by hand to add the rest of the bridge (the official map also does not show the part of the bridge in Daley Plaza). If I expanded the base map, I would then also have to redo the clickable map as it is coordinate based and making the map taller would change the pixels for each of the y coordinates. LEt me finish the copyedit and see how ambitious I feel then... ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:25, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
