Nomination of Twitter diplomacy for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Twitter diplomacy is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

I think I owe you an apology for jumping to conclusions and not assuming good faith. I'm sorry about that and I hope I didn't cause bad feelings toward Wikipedia.

• Not at all; the experience has actually interested me in further contributing to Wikipedia. You were quite right to show I relied too much on Twiplomacy.com. The others were also correct to point out that I wrote an essay instead of an encyclopedia article. I was actually going to contact you to check out some photos before trying to post them to the article (if it's not deleted!), as I've read that they very frequently get axed. If I manage to later post some to my sandbox and point you to them, would you be willing to see if they pass Wikipedia's guidelines? D.a.kelm (talk) 03:50, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

The thing with images is that there are two places to upload them, and the copyright issues are different:

• Free images (e.g. created by yourself or published under a Creative Commons license by others) are acceptable at WikiMedia Commons;
• Non-free images such as press photos may be acceptable on Wikipedia as fair use, but only for articles that they directly pertain to.

The reason is that Commons operates under a different law. I personally don't bother with fair use images (or photos, for that matter), but WP:FAIRUSE gives an overview of what is and what is not allowed. Additionally, there's a system where you can ask the copyright holder to release images for use by WikiMedia (I think it's called OTRS), but I've never actually used that.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

• make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
• Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
