==Welcome== Hello Cyberwizmj and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've chosen to join us. This is a great project with lots of dedicated people, which might seem intimidating at times, but don't let anything discourage you. Be bold!, explore, and contribute. If you want to learn more,

Wikipedia:Bootcamp teaches you the basics quickly,

Five Pillars of Wikipedia

Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.

There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 01:00, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sandbox edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for making editing tests in the Wikipedia sandbox, and not on other pages. However, when you use the sandbox, please do not remove the sandbox header. It identifies the page as the sandbox and provides directions to its users. Thank you. Georgia guy 02:41, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

ancient india edit

First: the name India was given to the subcontinent by the ancient greeks - so the name has been around for atleast 2500 years, or even more. We have adopted the european version of the name of the nation for historical reasons. Moreover, the people living within what the Greeks called India have consistently been a culturally homogenous unit since the time Alexander came in here....may be not politically, but culturally, India has been a nation for that period of time.

So ya, India is ancient - get over that!!!

You said:

The feeling of nationalism, of being one, a single country only came after the british came to india. Before that kings fought to extend their terretories, invaders invaded to amass wealth. This region was considered a single entity because of its geography.

PS: BTW I'm also an Indian. I just tend to look at things rationaly.cyberwizmj 18:05, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Please refer to a std English dictionary for the correct meaning of the word nation. I know some of them will holler that Wikipedia is not a dictionary....yada....yada....yada.... Thats not the point - whats moot here is the correct usage of the word, and the fact the person writing in English knows the correct meaning. To help you, I might advise that you start with www.dictionary.com - look up the meaning of nation in the Dictionary section, and refer to point # 3 (All meanings apply in different contexts - in case of India, imo, # 3 is as relevant as any other). I think I will have made my point clear.

In case you forgot, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India have been one single nation (as per point # 3) for a long time, till religion became a deciding factor, because certain Muslims decided they could not get a fair deal for themselves in a Hindu majority nation. Nepal has off and on been ruled by kingdoms based in India, and vice versa. Yes, Bhutan and SL have been geographically cut off from the mainland Indian subcontinent, I must admit.

Speedy deletion nomination of Manoj Vihar edit

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
