Still working on eCustoms edit

I notice you're still editing the eCustoms article. Might I suggest slapping an {{inuse}} tag on the page until you're done so that other editors won't interfere with your work? BigNate37 19:57, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please don't add more than one page for the same subject edit

I changed your article at eCustoms, Inc. to be a redirect to eCustoms. BigNate37 20:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia, as you did in Logistics. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links. See the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. eCustoms, etc. edit

Hello: I wanted to tell you that a small story about us appeared in the following link: http://www.securitysales.com/t_ci_newsView.cfm?nid=3020

I also wanted to find out if we could add content about our president Rajiv Manucha. He is very special in that he saw a business niche (customs compliance) more than 25 years ago, building the company into a leading provider of global import/export compliance solutions. Is this something we could do, or do you need us to provide the information for you to write. Thank you. -- Customs Compliance Specialists (July 31, 2006)

Well, the same is true writing about yourself as writing about someone you are close to. Recently I was involved with another article that was created by someone close to the subject, and it was nominated for deletion. In this case, the creating editor put a great amount of work into bringing the article in line with several Wikipedia policies: WP:NPOV, WP:OR, WP:CITE, and WP:CITE. This is very difficult to do all by ones' self. Additionally, and I quote this straight from WP:AUTO,
"Note that anything you submit can be edited by others. Several autobiographical articles have been a source of dismay to their original authors after a period of editing by the community, and in at least four instances have been listed for deletion by their original authors. In some cases the article is kept even if the original author requests otherwise."
Autobiographical can refer to articles written by someone close to the subject and not just articles written by the subject. Also, be warned that if any negative information exists and is added (with cited source), you will not be able to remove it from the article.
Once you are well-informed on the relevant policies, especially WP:AUTO, You may wish to list your desire for this article at requested articles. You may also start it yourself at any time though I do strongly suggest you understand what the consequences can be as mentioned above. I can start it, but I won't be able to dedicate the time it takes to turn it into a full article so if create it, the article will be very short. Basically, what you could do if you wanted to start it, is provide a very brief paragraph explaining the person and who he is/was (i.e. profession or reason for notability). Establishing notability is critical. Create an external links section of the article and list a bunch of links to neutral sources, which will eventually be turned into references as the material makes its way into the article via other editors. Lastly, you should add {{stub}} and {{catneeded}} to the bottom of the article when you create it. This will help it to attract attention from editors who can come and clean up/expand the article and categorise it with similar articles.
One final note, if you do start the article yourself, be sure to put any relevant information that is not fit for the article itself into the article's talk page. When you become involved in discussion with multiple editors, you should be familiar with proper talk page etiquette which you can brush up on by viewing {{tilde}} and to a lesser extent my indentation guide. It is not a big deal, but other editors may edit your comments and leave a note on your talk page if they are not chronological order and properly formatted and signed.

Hi I was pleasantly surprised to see our listing expanded. That's wonderful! Thank you.

There is one thing though: the link on point 2) goes to a website that is neither us nor IOMA. Is it possible for you to take that away for the time being. In the meantime, I will try to get a replacement link into the IOMA archive. Is this alright? -- Customs Compliance Specialists.

Let me know when you have the link. BigNate37T·C 15:08, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Have this link yet? BigNate37T·C 23:41, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello... Thanks for your help in getting our entry in. Really, really appreciate your understanding. If we wanted to give a somewhat fuller account of ourselves, how would we go about accomplishing that? -- Customs Compliance Specialists.

Hi. Out of curiosity, who will be talking about this topic? Thanks.

I've posted the eCustoms article on Wikipedia:Requests for expansion#June. I'm writing exams and then I'll be out of town; I won't be able to get to working on the article for at least this week. BigNate37 18:43, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to put a copy of this on the talk page of the article itself. BigNate37 20:21, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much for your help. I will get as much info as I can to you including rankings (one of Ontario's best managed private companies (Financial Post), one of the most popular providers of export software solutions among export managers of large companies (IOMA)). There are several articles in which we were quoted recently. Some of the articles were published over a decade ago(including Globe and Mail), but we can give you PDFs. In this case, how can we get the PDFs to you?

I believe that we are worthy of a little listing because we have done quite a lot in our field. But obviously I will leave that up to you and your colleagues to decide after I send over all the information.

Once again, thank you very much for your advice and help.

-- Customs Compliance Specialists

The best way to get PDFs to me or other potentially offline content is to find it (or put it) on the internet. It needs to be available to other editors if it is going to be used to make a lasting contribution on Wikipedia. Remember, statistics are better than qualifiers like "best". The following three paragraphs copied from User talk:BigNate37:

We would like to post some basic information about our company, eCustoms. We have been quoted in magazine articles, we have columns published in magazines and we have been involved in one ranking. I realize that we aren't IBM or Nike, but we are well known in our field: that of being a developer of import/export compliance systems. As I mentioned, we have appeared in many magazines -- notable supply chain magazines -- over the years. We have been in our niche for over 25 years. Any suggestions you can give to help us list in your Company listing section would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -- Customs Compliance Specialists.

The first thing you would want to do is remove the {{prod}} tag (PROD stands for proposed deletion) from the article. You're allowed to outright remove a {{prod}}, more on how to contest proposed deletion at WP:PROD. Because it is strongly suggested that you do not write about yourself, you are likely to meet more opposition to your article because of that. Now, I'm not suggesting you create a sock puppet or anything like that. Myself and many other editors would be happy to expand your article, for instance before you created it you could have requested it to be created instead. At this point, the best course of action (and still a good one) would be to request an editor to work on your article.
Personally, I do not have much time to lend to researching topics. If you would like me to work on your company's article, I would be happy to insert content for you if you could point me to some neutral third-party information about eCustoms on the internet. As another alternative, you could ask other editors for help, or visit Wikipedia:Requests to see all the ways you can ask for help regarding Wikipedia. Thanks for coming by to drop a note, it is very nice to see that you're willing to chat about the article. BigNate37 17:22, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:ECustoms Logo red 72dpi.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ECustoms Logo red 72dpi.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:05, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
