Potential conflict of interest edit

Based on your comments here

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Sheridan College, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Sheridan College edit

I did not roll back the page, another editor did [1] based on the opinion that most of the intervening edits violated our policies such as WP:NPOV and WP:NOTADVERT. We are here to provide a reader encyclopedic information about topics, not to be a second promotional brochure web presense for the school. Active Banana (bananaphone 16:56, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you base your edits on third party (not related to the school) reliable sources, it is far more likely that your contributions will be considered valid and not removed/deleted. (although they WILL be modified.) Active Banana (bananaphone 17:24, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your reply I appreciate the quick response. I will read through the documents and proceed with much more caution.

So will this article be editable again? How do I go about returning it to this state? Thank you. Cumminsr (talk) 18:35, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It has always been editable by autoconfirmed users. And if you are not yet autoconfirmed, you can make suggestions on the talk page. Active Banana (bananaphone 18:53, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

ok so based on the description of 'autoconfirmed status' since all my edits on the sheridan page where rolled back does this mean i technically do not have any 'edits' under my belt, so to speak? i appreaciate all your assistance. this is my first real experience with wikipedia and i'm interested in the process.

Cumminsr (talk) 18:22, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Just try to edit the article. If you can edit, then you are "auto confirmed". If you cannot edit that article yet, go find some other unprotected article and help improve it by adding sources, fixing grammar, or otherwise making it more presentable, at which time you will then be able to meet the autoconfirm criteria.
Also, I have a lot of pages on my watchlist and may miss if you make a comment here. Please place a note or talkback notification <no wiki>

Hello, Cumminsr. You have new messages at Cumminsr's talk page.

Sheridan College edit

You do not seem to be appreciating that your edits to Sheridan College MUST NOT be promotional in nature WP:ADVERT / WP:NPOV and MUST be supported by citations to third party reliable sources.

The article is to be an encyclopedic overview of the topic and NOT a duplicative promotional website for the college. You appear to have a conflict of interest an should probably refrain from editing this article and put your efforts towards some other article(s) where you can contribute in an appropriately detachted and non-promotional manner.
