Transport in X (European country) reverts

edit

Dear WikiFair1, Since many people seem to think (incorrectly or not is irrelevant here) that all of Europe "orthographically belongs" to the UK, your reverts might be seen as picking a fight. I recommend against them, for now. Let's discuss this here instead. --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-19 12:39 (UTC)

This project should be moved...

...and renamed. (Using the word "justice" pretty much implies that someone else is responsible for "injustice", if'n ya know whaddah mean.)

As I mentioned elsewhere, I really don't have much interest in the issue qua "issue", but I do get a bit annoyed by the endless edit wars that surround this topic. I've set up projects before, however, and happily offer my assistance if you like. There might be a project out there already... I'll peek around. SB Johnny 12:24, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! If you find the relevant project, please let me know. Otherwise, help in setting up a project would be greatly appreciated. (Note: going off-line for at least a few hours starting now.) --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-22 12:28 (UTC)
I support the move as mentioned by Johnny. --Darwinek 12:45, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I started the template... shortcut is WP:REDS. I'll check back later today... got crops to plant now. SB Johnny 13:20, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear SB Johnny: Thanks for the setting up the project, but I think you misunderstood the point of this page, which is to enforce and improve Wikipedia's policies and guidelines about spelling. This is such a complex issue I'm tempted to say that we meet via ICQ or Skype. A quick back and forth might be best here. (And we can save the chat history and place it here, so everything's open.) --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-23 8:20 (UTC)

It doesn't seem to be spelling in general, but rather regional variants of spellings that are the heart of the issue. If I understand correctly, your goal here is to organize "community watchlist" similar to those used by WP:WPSPAM and WP:CVU. However, it's important to first get an idea of what exactly it is you're watching, and reach some consensus about what's to be done about it. Once the project is organized, it should be announced on the naming conventions projects, as well as the American_and_British_English_spelling_differences (which is an article that is acting like a project on the talk) page in order to set up the rules.
The point of setting up a formal project, rather than an informal project on a userpage, is to make it something the community at large will feel welcome participating in, rather than something a few people do at Cultural Freedom's place. SB Johnny 10:17, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the response. I had several goals with this page: to organize a community watch of sorts, but also to begin reflection about policy per se. (See User:Cultural_Freedom/CFWPOJ#More_large-scale_issues_we_can_address, which was only a beginning.) But, yes, taking a few large steps back and getting an idea of what we're dealing with is a fine idea. As long as the project page can accomodate all of that, no prob. (And, to repeat, I agree that everyone should feel welcome. No argument there!) Main thing, this opening doesn't seem quite right to me: "Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Regional English dialects. (emph. mine). That feels like a different project. But I'll address that on the project's talk page. For now, back to work with me.... See you in a few hours. --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-23 12:57 (UTC)

Oh, that's just the project template talking... it just automatically adds all that with the project name substituted for "Project_name", if'n ya see what I mean.
Mind if I move this page to Regional English dialects/Community watchlist? SB_Johnny | talk 17:27, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
