Hi, I wondered what you meant by referring to a "spurious" phrase in your recent edit to Mary, Queen of Scots. Deb (talk) 12:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Can I just reply here? Apologies, my brain was tired: reading late at night.
The insertion in question was "by Darnley" in the sentence "On 24 July 1567, she was forced to abdicate in favour of her one-year-old son by Darnley, James."
I read the sentence as "she was forced to abdicate ... by Darnley", where Darnley had been killed off in the previous paragraph. Read that way it made no sense. I tracked the change down to this revison where "by Darnley" is inserted. This insertion is isolated from the main changes in the revision, and I took it as a typo.
I can now see that it is meant as "one-year-old son by Darnley", which makes perfect sense. However it does make the sentence a little complicated, hence my befuddlement (even if I was a little tired), so I have tried to clarify it as:
"she was forced to abdicate in favour of James, her one-year-old son by Darnley."
I'm not sure if that is any better.
