Speedy deletion nomination of BUDDY by Violet Valen edit

A tag has been placed on BUDDY by Violet Valen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of BUDDY by Violet Valen and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JNW (talk) 04:39, 21 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

June 2009 edit

Welcome!

Hello, Crystalroseluv, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Crystalroseluv; although your stated intention is not promotional, that is what your edits appear to be. User pages, like article pages, are not to be used to advertise a business; doing so persistently will result in your account being blocked. Unless you can provide reliable sources to support notability of the subject, it will be nominated for speedy deletion again. JNW (talk) 05:06, 21 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of BUDDY SOCIETY edit

The article BUDDY SOCIETY has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no evidence of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:FreddieinBuddyonConan.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:FreddieinBuddyonConan.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Peripitus (Talk) 23:32, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:FreddieinBuddyonConan.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:FreddieinBuddyonConan.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 08:48, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Why Was My Article Deleted? edit

That's the question you are probably asking right now. Well, there are a couple reasons your article could have been deleted.

  1. It may not have met the General notability guideline. This is the guideline that all articles must meet before they can be included.
  2. It may not have been notable. If a subject isn't notable, it isn't included. Your little brother's garage rock band with 5 fans isn't notable, but Metallica...that's notable.
  3. It may not have been Verifiable. If an article doesn't have several third-party reliable sources, it can be deleted as original research.
  4. It may have been advertising. Any page about a company of any sort must meet strict guidelines so it isn't considered advertisting. A page about the local quickie-mart is probably advertising and also probably not notable.

Please read WP:FIRST, which is about creating your first article. Then get all the information you can on a subject. Create it in userspace (on a subpage of your userpage) so it won't get deleted before you are finished. Add all the information, references, reliable sources and more to the page. Make sure it meets the General notability guideline. If you aren't sure, ask an admin, they will be glad to help. Then move it to where you want it in mainspace (on the Wikipedia). From there, keep it updated with pertinent updated information, so the article doesn't become stale. When in doubt with anything, ask the Help desk or an admin. Hope this helps...NeutralhomerTalk • 07:58, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your note. I'm a grad student, and I have a large paper due tomorrow, so I can't deal with your request today; I'll do my best to take care of the situation tomorrow. Nyttend (talk) 11:26, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yesterday was really busy as well; I'm sorry that I couldn't reply until now. While your writing was factual, the tone of the entire text was that of making the company look good; adjectives such as "one-of-a-kind", sprinkled throughout the article but concentrated in the intro, do not at all fit our neutral point of view policy; as well, you added lots of links to the company, and that is something commonly done for advertising purposes. A few other things:
  1. You expanded the article with an edit summary of "Buddy Society" is a legitimate fashion line created by Violet Valen. Having a Wikipedia page is necessary to answer people's questions about "Buddy Society", how it was started, and what it entails. Articles are not to be added to Wikipedia to answer questions from would-be customers: they're meant to document what's already been published in reliable sources.
  2. In your message at my talk page, you speak as if you're an employee or otherwise associated with Buddy Society. If someone not at all connected with the company were to write an article on a company like Buddy Society, and if the article had the problems that I mentioned above, it might be seen as advertising, or it might be seen as problematic writing that should be kept around until it could be fixed. However, as someone associated with the company, you have a rather large conflict of interest, and writing about your own company in a way that's already problematic greatly increases the chance of have your work deleted.
  3. In your email, you talk about information that was approved for Wikipedia use. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but Buddy Society can't permit or prohibit the inclusion of certain information; nobody owns the article.
  4. About the pictures: they're both still online, as I didn't delete them. You can still find them at File:Mymoodbuddy.jpg and File:Buddy Logo.jpg.
  5. Finally: if you still believe that I deleted the article incorrectly, please understand that I'm not a court of last resort. You're welcome to go to Deletion Review to contest the deletion.
Please understand that I'm not saying all of this with anger — I'm trying to answer all of your questions with as much politeness as you showed in your email and in your note at my talk page. Often, when people tell me that they disagreed with my deletion of an article, their tone is angry; thanks for being a very pleasant exception :-) Nyttend (talk) 11:59, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
