Film editor articles edit

Hello Critican.kane . I've been reading your many articles on film editors for de.wikipedia. I think you're doing a great job on a neglected area. I've written a number of film editor articles for en.wikipedia, but I'm learning some things from you that I hope to use in future. Best regards, Easchiff (talk) 15:38, 22 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I don't know, why I'm doing this, but i think, nobody has done this before, so there's a lot of room for expressing your own ideas. Well, Let's see, how I can help you. Perhaps, one day, i'll use your work for my german articles. But at first: My english is terrible. I understand everything, what you're writing, but can't use this language by myself, because of the less using in germany ;)
I've learned a lot of stuff while researching for references.
- You Should always try at google to connect your editor with words like "guild", "Cut" , "film editor" - a lot of them are in the editorsguild and did a few interviews with informations about their work and how they became filmeditors. For britisch editors use screenrush oder screenonline. There often good biographys. Even linkedin can be useful (like de:Cara Silverman)
- Use the IMDb-Trivia to google better references. Sometimes you can use the information of visiting schools or colleges to get more or better informations.
- Use the other foreign language wikipedias. there can be useful informations. And If you don't understand their language. No Problem, use google translate (I just translated an russian actor de:Alexander Bucharow (Schauspieler) or an swiss born dutch cinematographer who was educated in Poland and worked in Sweden and made his first hollywood-movie de:Hoyte van Hoytema)
- Double-Names means often double entrys at the IMDb (like de:Lois Freeman-Fox or de:Debra Neil-Fisher)
- Don't be afraid of having to much informations. A lot of them are useless. And don't be afraid of having to less informatios. You can read a filmography. When did they start their carrer? Who theached them? (Sometimes only one mentor, sometimes to many^^) Have they special relationsships to directors (a few directors just work with one editor)? What kind of movies do they edit (indie/mainstream) and what genre (comedy, drama, action - every genre has its own style and technique)? Are the movies international or national productions (did they changed the countries for editing other projects?) Is the project for black, white or other people? (movies for afro-american are most done by afro-americans, rare by other people - it's not racist, but could be useful for new informations)
You'll soon get a little routine, so you'll write little articles in between 10 oder 20 minutes, while bigger articles need between 1 or 2 hours.

So now you know my German is certainly not better than your English, which is pretty good! I don't have much time for Wiki-work right now. I have looked at the Mankofsky article. In a couple of weeks, when I've got a bit more time, I can do a quick job translating it. I'll let you know when I get started.
I'm glad you liked the Barry Malkin article. I think you have done a great job in your contributions of writing up the career paths of editors in an interesting way; I don't find that to be very easy. I think my own best work on a film editor is on the Verna Fields article; with more work, it might qualify as a featured article. With most editors, I find it difficult to find citations to authors who write about an editor's work as "art". The accessible information about credits, prizes, co-workers, and editing apparatus just doesn't capture this aspect.

Reliable sources at en-Wikipedia edit

Please ensure you include a reliable source when adding personal information to biography articles. Any such information added without the inclusion of a source will be removed if challenged. Note that other language Wikipedia's and websites that host user-generated content do not meet the english Wikipedia's sourcing criteria. You may want to ratchet down the personal attacks and invective in your edit summaries as well - repeated outbursts of that nature are not acceptable. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:29, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Again - please review this extremely important link regarding sources. Websites consisting of user generated content such as other wikis, online databases (such as IMDB, NNDB), and gossip and tabloid sites do not meet the requirements of sourcing in BLPs. I'm aware that some other language Wikipedia's are more lax regarding their sourcing, but here if information is challenged in a BLP it needs a reliable source to be restored to the article. If a reliable source cannot be found the information is not included. Please do not continue to edit war war to restore the challenged material in this BLP, and the continued personal attacks in your edit summaries need to stop. Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 16:55, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
radaris.com DOES NOT HAVE user generated contend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It uses the BIRTH INDEXES (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), but i don't have an premium account to get the full informations, and so, you can trust this site!!!!!!!!!!!! Because its goverment material!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont create oder invent informations. -- 16:57, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
As you do not seem to be able to have a discussion with me regarding Wikipedia policy without resorting to personal attacks and an unhealthy use of exclamation points I have requested further input at WP:BLPN. A link to the discussion can be found here. Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 17:07, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reliable sources edit

Hi - I am having a look at these sources you are providing. There is also a noticeboard WP:RSN - especially for these disputes where you can ask if these sources comply with our guidelines WP:RS - Youreallycan (talk) 17:11, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

This one is a primary source which requires a degree of investigative searching. Here at wiki we report what other reliable sources have previously reported. As you can see by the extremely minimal use of this site http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALinkSearch&target=http%3A%2F%2Fradaris.com%2Fng%2Fpb%2F on the project it is not a reliable source for peoples middle names. Not only that - the source actually gives the address of people also - that is something we are advised to avoid linking to. Youreallycan (talk) 17:15, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
