Notable absences

Not only were the Memphis tornadoes on Super Tuesday very near downtown, but another near miss that few will ever know was Nashville. The supercell produced large intense tornadoes that killed multiple people both before and after passing directly over Nashville, but during that time the mesocyclone was phasing and in the non-tornado portion of the cycle. A few more miles/minutes and a modern catastrophe paralleled only by Katrina might have occurred. Evolauxia (talk) 18:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hurricane Hall of Fame

I've been working on the Tropical cyclone WikiProject for almost four years now and I know that at times it can be pretty draining. Hurricanehink and I started a fun little thing two years ago called the Hurricane Hall of Fame (based on a concept I'd created much earlier). It works just like any other Hall of Fame: every year, five storms are voted in based on notability. Up until now, the voters were just me and Hink and the honorees were just Atlantic storms. Both of those are changing (hopefully). I'm trying to get more Project members involved in the voting and I'm going international this year. This ballot is for the Eastern Pacific. Following this election, I'll send out ballots for the Western Pacific and then perhaps the Indian Ocean...all leading up to the Atlantic ballot early this summer. I'd really appreciate your participation. It's just for fun; something to lower stress levels. I'll announce the winners next weekend. The nominees are...

• 1939 Long Beach Tropical Storm - Only tropical storm to make landfall in California in the 20th Century, killed in excess of 40 people at sea and in floods.
• 1959 Mexico Hurricane - deadliest Eastern Pacific storm in history, 1000-1800 dead.

I've been trying to figure out how you get the EF intensities of all the tornadoes this year yet on the SPC page many don't show up. If you could show me where you get that information I'll gladly begin the List of US Tornadoes of 2008 article. That's really the only thing holding me back from helping you with that idea. Koppen climate classification

The Koppen climate classification uses -3C/26.6F as the cfa/dfa line. Let me guess- you use 0C/32F as the borderline because of Cape Cod. The cfb climate should be called oceanic climate. Marine West Coast Climate doesn't exist. Anyway, are Los Angeles and San Francisco on the Mediterranean? No, but they have a Mediterranean climate. I also investigated some bird range maps recently and they tend to follow the 26.6F line over the 32F line. Of course, this was just an investigation of a few birds so don't take this so seriously. Date linking

I see you restored linked dates at Hurricane Gustav (2008). I had removed them because there is inconsistency in date-linking in the article and, per WP:DATE#Date autoformatting, date autoformatting (linking) is deprecated. Upgraded infobox for image sizes or captions

29-Aug-2008: I have upgraded Template:Infobox_hurricane_current to use the more modern technology for infoboxes, to also allow image sizes/captions:

• changed "class=toccolours" to be "class=infobox";
• added new parameter "image_width" for "image" parameter;
• added new parameter "track_width" for "track" parameter;
• added new parameter "image_caption" for "image" parameter;
• added new parameter "track_caption" for "track" parameter;
• set default minimum box width as "280";
• put internal comments, to explain coding as NOTES & HISTORY.

Hopefully, the parameter track_width will help to make the forecast-map somewhat larger than the previous mandatory postage-stamp size. The infobox had been created back on 13July2006 when "class=toccolours" was used in many infoboxes. As customary, I have spent hours testing the changes (with both Firefox & IE browsers), in a separate user-space template, before releasing the changes to the live infobox template. -Wikid77 (talk) 05:53, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I won't revert you, Crazy.. but I do think that it's worth having that box up there for a while. I certainly wouldn't worry about the Manual of Style in this context, because I think it's appropriate to bend the rules a little once in a while for strong reasons.... and our article is the second result in Google, so could well get quite a lot of traffic. Concerning your deletion of my edits

You removed my edit of the article Hurricane Ike. I don't know how it is not clear to you that what I added IS directly related to Canada.

From the article:

Splitting Ike article will be slow

20-Sep-2008: I agree with you that the Hurricane Ike information will grow, especially after the notoriety sets in, when everyone will be saying, "Ike caused that too" and such. People visiting the Caribbean will also document more details about the infamous storm, such as local ships that sank or other details. It wasn't me creating the names "Giant Ike" or "Colossal Ike" because the sources I read described Ike as "twice the size of Katrina". The boardwalks in Galveston where found washed along the shoreline 3 blocks to the west, but at the back of the storm, the winds would switch to the east, washing people out to sea towards Florida (although oil rigs are out there, 20 miles out). Several blogs/forums are asking about hundreds of missing people. From that infamy, Ike news webpages will remain on the Internet for months, as future reference documents. Hence, many other people will help expand these webpages as time passes. That Texas tornado occurred on the 24th, either at 145am where it happened or 645 UTC...whichever you go by, it should be under the April 24th tornadoes. Remember that the SPC's storm reports go 12Z-12Z (7am-7am Central time), not midnight to midnight, so events after midnight need to be placed under the following day's events in our articles. Someone beat you to creating this, so I went ahead and added your sandbox material to the article. Also, keep an eye on Arkansas especially today, as the SPC pretty much maxed out the probablilities in a PDS watch for the area. I suggest (if you have the time) monitoring this media outlet, as yesterday they put up a live video stream of their severe weather coverage once the stuff got rolling. May 2010 Oklahoma tornado outbreak

May 2010 Oklahoma tornado outbreak seems to be a bit hyperactive in how long the tornado outbreak is claimed to have continued. I'm pretty sure it was only May 10-12 for the first weather system, so unless the 13-15 were active enough to call it a tornado outbreak sequence, I would say they aren't a part of this outbreak. As far as I know, the 10th was the first day of the outbreak, the 11th a day of minimal activity, the 12th was activity when the system was lifting back north as a warm front/dry line, and then the system pushed east and stopped producing tornadoes. The only problem is, the 2 main RBT's don't have it. Thegreatdr (talk · contribs) said in Talk:2010 AHS that "If all else fails, ask yourself who the primary source for such information in the Atlantic basin is. The answer will come to you quickly. I would imagine this would be a rare event, since all that NRL stuff is driven by NHC information, at least I thought it was." October 24th in Tornadoes of 2010

I'm not entirely sure, but wasn't the storm system that spawned the tornadoes October 24th in the south a separate storm system from the one presently spawning damaging winds and tornadoes? I was under the impression that the storms on the 24th were spawned by one system that went off elsewhere, and the current ones were spawned by a system that just ejected east across the plains yesterday. Tornadoes of 2010

Just wondering, why do you keep removing the European tornadoes? Although I don't put much information into the bits, there is a lot more available for them. I only put the single sentence just so their existence is known and others can improve upon it from there.
