Article Evaluation

edit

I am evaluating the article on the Oak Toad.

  • This is a very brief article that could benefit from more information to fill it out.
  • The section titled "behavior" contains information about the toad's eating habits, breeding, egg characteristics and fertilization, and maternal investment. This information could easily be spilt up and reorganized into different sections.
  • While the article discusses the toad's appearance at the very top of the article, pictures depicting its small body size are located at the bottom of the article near the references. Those pictures would be more beneficial near the top next to their relevant section. I didn't know they existed until I got to the bottom of the article.
  • The article states a paper that discusses amphibian declines in the US, but does not address any potential threats to the oak toad
  • The article cites a source from the 1930s when discussing the toad's breeding season. This information should probably be updated to cite a more recent source. It's breeding season may have been slightly altered due to climate change.
  • In fact, the article cites many different sources from before the 1980s. While some of these may be relevant, adding more recent sources could benefit the article.
  • There is nothing on the talk page, so it does not look like it has ever been edited or discussed.
  • It is a C-rated article
  • It is considered low importance within Wikiproject Amphibians and reptiles

The information you have does a really good job at filling out or correcting gaps of information in both articles. I think that for the box turtle you should create an ecology section (like in the soft shelled article) and possibly add the feeding and seed dispersal sections to it as those sections seem a little short to have their own section. Thanks for the suggestions! I've made feeding and seed dispersal sub-sections under behavior. Craft meghan (talk) 20:00, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

The information you have added does a good job connecting the provided information, making it flow and more understandable. I think the Florida Box Turtle article could use a photo if you can find one. For the Florida Softshell article, I think the last few sections should be set up similarly to the first one (threats as section and then have anthropogenic, natural.. etc. as subsections). I like how in the second article, you split reproduction up from male/female. I agree with Zach about an ecology section for the box turtle. The behavior section feels a bit short compared to the first article (but I know nothing about turtles so it may be fine). Overall, really good job and how you organized all the information. I liked your idea to add images, so I found a couple good ones. I've made feeding and seed dispersal sub-sections under behavior. Craft meghan (talk) 20:00, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

The article has a clear and well organized flow. There are a few grammatical errors with unneccessary or missing commas. Try to avoid using unnecessary exaggerating words (very, always, etc). Overall, well written! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scolaro S (talkcontribs) 00:54, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up! I went through and fixed some of my mistakes. Craft meghan (talk) 20:00, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Minor suggested edits: In the behavior section "than other T. carolina subspecies", remove the italics "subspecies". Under Seed Dispersal, I think "while others may not" is better than "while other may not". Do you have a link to the IUCN red list wiki page under threats? if not, you might add that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IUCN_Red_List Under Ecology section of A. ferox, the first sentence jumps right into predators. I think adding an introductory sentence about ecology, then begin discussion on predators etc. I think this section could be improved with a little more info. Great job, Meghan! Thank you for your suggestions. I went through and fixed the minor edits and typos. I do have a citation to the IUCN box turtle page in my threats section, but thank you for having me double check. Finally, I went back and added a couple more citations and a little bit more info to help flesh out the softshell ecology section just a little bit more. Unfortunately, I struggled to find a lot of information on their ecology from reliable sources. Craft meghan (talk) 21:35, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
