Welcome

edit

Hello, Corwynallen, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created was Avatar Repertory Theater, which appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! ToniSant (talk) 15:00, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Response to Your Note to Me

edit

Hi Toni,

Yes, I am new to editing Wikipedia. I created an account so I could edit a page that had been put up by someone else about the theater troupe I belong to. This was the first, and apart from this note to you, my only post to Wikipedia to date. I don't know why it would show up as being about me, rather than simply showing that I edited it. I will have to go through the FAQ and tutorials to see what's going on. I would appreciate any help or advice on this. Thank you.

Hi Corwyn - Welcome to Wikipedia, once again! I'm very pleased you've chosen to engage. As you may have gathered, students in my class at the University of Hull are currently working on creating new pages for Wikipedia. As they are Theatre & Performance students working on projects related to online performance, they have selected from a number of subject currently not represented on Wikipedia, including your company.
Wikipedia policy frowns on people directly involved with the subject of a page from editing the page/s they are associated with. See Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest. However, you're encouraged to point out any recommended additions/alterations on the talk page for the article. There are also guideline about this here: Wikipedia:Autobiography. For a practical guide to all dealing with all this, I'd recommend: Wikipedia:Plain_and_simple_conflict_of_interest_guide.
If you'd like some more general pointers about editing Wikipedia, you're very welcome to browse the simplified help page I've created for my students.
Please don't let any of the Wikipedia policies discourage you from becoming actively involved. You'll find that most people involved in editing Wikipedia appreciate input from others associated directly with the subject of a particular page, and the purpose for the policies is to uphold a level of quality on Wikipedia itself. --ToniSant (talk) 16:04, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I've noticed that you have been editing the page Avatar Repertory Theater. This is the page I am currently working on for my educational assignment. I am also new to Wikipedia and welcome any references and information you have on the company and would be delighted to discuss it with you on the groups talk page.
