CorenSearchBot bug

It complained about freshwater withdrawal at User_talk:Rajah#Freshwater_withdrawal, both the article and the putative source webpage are sourced from a public domain source: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2202.html . Maybe have the bot check for source references from .gov sites on putative source pages? Thanks! --Rajah (talk) 06:09, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Ashes Series 1954-55 and 1958-59

I am separating my articles England cricket team in Australia 1954-55 and English cricket team in Australia 1958-59 as they were too long and created 1954-55 Ashes series and 1958-59 Ashes series, there was some confusion for the bot as I cut and pasted one article from another while keeping the text on the old one. I plan to do the same for England team in Australia 1970-71 and 1970-71 Ashes series.--Philipjelley (talk) 09:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Wawashkamo Golf Club

The article Wawashkamo Golf Club cites the golf club's own webpage, http://www.wawashkamo.com, but does not copy its text in any way, and your bot is in error. I request that your copyvio logo and message be removed. Thank you. Bigturtle (talk) 01:00, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Music Council of Australia

The CorenSearchBot is is error in pointing to the site is has as the source of the text. That site had in fact taken the text from the MCAs own website. It is the site referred to by the Bot that is in breach. The wording here is not a copy of the original material. I have deleted the SearchBots reference on the page and added a note to that page's discussion page. Thanks. Yergnaws (talk) 14:36, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Tajik (talk · contribs), a very racist, controversial and disruptive editor with long history of blocks, is still vandalizings pages of groups of people he doesn't like [1], he's edit-warring, he uses sockpuppets and annon IPs to curse, abuse, attack, insult, and offend people of other races. Here he is cursing at other editors and also adding in the article that the mother of a politician in Afghanistan was raped by ethnic Tajiks He did the recent vandalisms on Kabul, Afghan (name), Abdullah Abdullah (politician), Talk:Jamal-al-Din_Afghani, Sher Shah Suri, and others. He is constantly editing articles pertaining to Afghanistan and its people with very negative view. By trying to evade from admins, he first edits with his usual user name and then vandalizeand edit-war with a set of IP # but all appear to be in the same location in Germany where he lives. He and the IPs share the same view, always refusing to accept Afghanistan's existance in the 18th century [2], [3], giving Tajiks a good name and the people that he hates (the Pashtuns) a very negative image almost every page he visits. He is trying to change Afghanistan into Iran and remove the Pashto language from every article, which is the one of the official languages of the country. I'm pretty sure he is using those IPs and socks, he is trying to change his writings when he uses IPs to fool admins.119.73.1.41 (talk) 00:47, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

The Roland Kirk Quartet Meets the Benny Golson Orchestra

What a speedy bot you have - it picked up a similarity with a web page that only has the track listing for this album. As there is more info in the article than the web page referred to and because the track listing is (I think) public domain I've delted the tag. DISEman (talk) 01:19, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Howdy, Coren! Not sure why but the bot tagged the beginnings of this article and my handwritten article entry as being a copyvio. Home of heroes

Thanks for trying but again the home of heroes site is not subject to copyright because all the data is contained on government sources and repackaged. I know that your bot catches a lot of copyright problems but I have as I have mentioned time and again this info isn't subject to copyright. I admit I put the "tag" but I SOULDN'T NEED TOO. Since I have mentioned this nicely and rudely, every time corenbot erroneously spams my talk page with the copyright tags I will just return the favor notify you. My recommendation would be to add logic or something that skips the HOH site. Cheers and happy spamming. --Kumioko (talk) 01:21, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

New exclusion parameters for Corenbot?

Re: the listing of Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2005, admittedly no Magna Carta, as a copyright violation of Theorator.com text. Notice On CorenSearchBot

I just recently published an article on the King Genet and received a notice about the copyright violention. I wrote the article myself and used sources from the World Conservation Union. The source your bot suggested that I was violenting was http://pandapedia.com/w/index.php?title=King_Genet&action=edit&redlink=1 This website is a Wikipedia minor and is stated so at the bottom of the article page. Please add this to CorenSearchBot's list. KnowledgeRequire (talk) 22:33, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Medal of Honor citations

Good day to you sir, Thanks for fixing corenbot to stop identifying home of heroes as a copyright vio everytime I create a new Medal of Honor recipient page. Unfortunately, now I am getting http://www.combatleadership.com/Heroes_Results.asp?MedalID=591 as a copyvio. The text displayed here is exactly what is displayed in the Army Center of Military History site so therefore is not subject to copyright. Could you please add this site to the list of sites not to count. At least for Medal of Honor citations anyway. --Kumioko (talk) 00:20, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

The article has been extensively changed. The source document was merely one source of the obit; there have been numerous postings of it all over the continuing Anglican web. Now that these (revised) basics are up, it can be developed with all the many references which should build given the merits of the man. SongspiritUSA (talk) 09:32, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Bot may have made an error

I've noticed that your bot rarely makes errors but it had tagged almost all the contributions of Un8chimu as copyvios. However, they are released under the GNU Free Documentation License and it was at the bottom of the linked page. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 14:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, since the switch to dual-licensing on June 16th, text which is available under the GFDL only is no longer permissible, it has to be released under WP:CC-BY-SA or a compatible license, which GFDL is not. The bot was right. MLauba (talk) 14:22, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

label articles from California Marine Sportfish as Copyright violations because they are in the public domain . Dr. Szląchski (talk) 04:02, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, that statement you link to is sorta annoyingly vague; it tells us that the contents is generally in the pubic domain, which does little to tell us what, specifically, is or isn't. It does look as though the article on actual fish probably are though— but that's a good reason to remove the tag, not for not tagging at all: the act of removing the tag is positive acknowledgment that a human being has reviewed the copy and found it okay. — Coren (talk) 12:19, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Linux and GNU/Linux

Thanks so much for the meeting today with RMS. As I said in the meeting, I would certainly appreciate any help you can give in mediating and unsticking the whole issue over at Talk:Linux in relation both (a) the name of the article and (b) the issue of referencing the operating system in other articles.

I tend to think it would make most sense to move on (b) first since I think we're actually pretty close to consensus on that issue. I'm looking forward to help your help! —mako 20:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I'll obviously have very little (read: absolutely no) available time until next week, but I'll pull my sleeves up and get to it as soon as I return to routine. I'll email RMS as soon as I am ready to start, so we can get this ball rolling. In the meantime, I'll try to spend some of my Copious Free Time to catch up on the history to get a better feel of the players and the actual issues; I'm pretty sure we can arrange a solution that's going to be acceptable to everyone. — Coren (talk) 23:53, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, fair point. I understand the double bind you guys face in terms of "secret" discussions. I'm sorry for the tone of my post; to be honest, I should probably just unwatchlist the case pages at this point since everything that can be said (by me, at least) has been said. In the past, I've noticed that cases which enter a phase like the current one often close with admonishments and other relatively minor remedies, presumably because the stasis reflects a serious division of opinion on the proper course and the admonishments represent an acceptable compromise. In this case I feel like that would be a poor outcome, for the reasons I (somewhat testily) put forward in my post.

I've also sometimes watched a case reach a conclusion with which I disagreed, and then wished I'd spoken up during the case - I say that just to explain my continued posting. Anyhow, sorry for the tone of the post. Obviously, your explanation is both simpler and more rational than mine, and I don't think I have very much new to add to that case. I'll leave it in your (collective) hands. Happy editing. :) MastCell Talk 16:48, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Heh. For what it's worth, I empathize with how difficult and painful it can be to watch the deliberative process in action in the cases where it stutters like this. It's the inconvenient of our advantage: that we are a committee means we cannot act overly rashly, but also means we can get into binds like this. I didn't think your tone was too far off — I sometimes feel that way myself — but I felt it needed a bit of explanation. — Coren (talk) 17:18, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
