edit

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:28, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable non-free use File:KenyaGrace.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:KenyaGrace.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:20, 8 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Marchjuly
Thanks for your message! I have updated the file's page + the file's talk page with:

{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|I looked online but the only other photos of her that I could find were on sale from Getty Images and Alamy. The photo that I used was taken directly from her own website where she is promoting her works. I would consider contacting the artist or her representatives to request copyright permission, however given that there appear to be no other free images of her available I would instead further the view that this image is not replaceable}}

(Non-administrator comment) Hi Control-alt-delete. Please don't add the template {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed}} to any more talk pages. That template is intended for use only on file pages. As for you reasons for disputing the deletion of the file, as I posted at User talk:Marchjuly#Copyright of photo of Kenya Grace and Explicit posted at User talk:Explicit#Deletion of photo, a non-free image of Grace is pretty much never going to be allowed as long as she's still alive because someone could reasonably create a free equivalent image serving the same encyclopedic purpose to use instead. For what it's worth, having an infobox image is a nice thing, but it's not a requirement and plenty of articles don't have such an image. You can try followng the guidance given in WP:PERMISSION if you find an image on line that you think would be nice to use, but you're not going to be able to do so without Wikipedia having some formal way of verifying the image's copyright holder's WP:CONSENT. The essay Wikipedia:Requesting free content contains some suggestions on how to find "free" images that you might find helpful. One thing you want to avoid at all costs, though, is repeatedly uploading images with questionable licensing or invalid non-free content use justifications. Wikipedia administrators understand that we all make mistakes, and they're happy to help us sort them out; they don't, however, have much tolerance for those who make the same mistake over and over again and will take more forceful action in such cases. So, if you're unsure about whether an image is OK to upload to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, you might want to ask about it first at WP:MCQ or c:COM:VPC. Commons, in particular, has more restrictive rules when it comes to uploading images; so, you should also take a close look at c:COM:L before uploading anything to Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:40, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Marchjuly - thank you for taking the time to write such an incredibly detailed reply, it is very helpful! I will wait for somebody to take a photo of her. There's nothing yet on OpenVerse, or Google > Tools: License free, or Flickr. Thanks for your help Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkfavs 19:58, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kenya Grace, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Algés. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

@Control-alt-delete: Why are you adding unsourced content to Wikipedia? scope_creepTalk 22:01, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Scope creep: Why are you adding passive aggressive comments to Wikipedia? It's sourced on the original article. Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkfavs 23:41, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Passive aggressive? Dude if you add any more unsourced content I'm going to have you up at wp:ani, in a New York minute. Every sentence that is added to Wikipedia needs a reference, even if the content copied from another article. It gets referenced. Dumping paragraphs of unsourced content into another article is not only deeply uncool, it clearly indicates WP:CIR issues as its illegal as unsourced. If there is unsourced content that is being copied, you first provide attribution, which is strictly required (I don't see anywhere either) and then you source it. Everytime. Do not do it. scope_creepTalk 23:53, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Scope creep Instead of writing walls of text why don't you give me a New York minute to actually add the citations? Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkfavs 23:54, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Tons of sources here, which I'm trying to copy in but you keep causing edit conflicts on:

@Control-alt-delete: Your references are junk, the content isn't sourced, linked or attributed, you have WP:CIR issues and your abusive. I'd rather you didn't work any articles I worked on, as your giving me work. You don't even do proper citations. It is low-quality junk. I've repored you. scope_creepTalk 00:30, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Scope creep You don't have a choice but for other people to "work on articles you worked on". This is a community-driven website with many authors. You clearly have too much of an interest in this to not be biased. You began the abuse from the get-go. Don't act like the victim. Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkfavs 00:34, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Additionally, I have copied many of the citations from other articles so they're not "my" references. Take a break! Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkfavs 00:35, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
