Article Licensing

edit

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Copywrite and fair use

edit

Fair use says "Fair use makes copyrighted work available to the public as raw material without the need for permission or clearance, so long as such free usage serves the purpose of copyright law, which the U.S. Constitution defines as the promotion of "the Progress of Science and useful Arts" (I.1.8), better than the legal enforcement of claims of infringement."

See [1] for further information.

"RULES OF THUMB FOR COURSEPACKS

The Classroom Guidelines that were negotiated in 1976 can provide helpful guidance and we recommend that you read them. 1. Limit coursepack materials to

 • single chapters
 • single articles from a journal issue
 • several charts, graphs or illustrations
 • other similarly small parts of a work. "

from [2] illustrates the principle of extracting part of a work being covered by fair use.

The New York Times itself quotes others.

"Copyright protects the particular way an author has expressed himself; it does not extend to any ideas, systems, or factual information conveyed in the work." [3] therefore a quote that essentially lists facts isn't even covered by copywrite in the first place.

Wikipedia primary servers are in the US.

While it would be nice to have no legal complications, the rich in this world are seeking to own everything including math equations (which is what software patents are).

Don't help memes that block the free flow of information. Help memes that promote freedom. Fair use is one such doctrine, law and meme. WAS 4.250 20:32, 17 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

2005 Philippine electoral crisis

edit

Hey there. If you are still interested in the 2005 Philippine electoral crisis, pls drop by. I am trying to boost the quality of the article, in preparation for peer review, and you're help would be most appreciated in any aspect of the article. I was able to integrate one of the links you posted in the talk page. Alas, the other links are dead links today. :) --Noypi380 16:31, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll work on it asap. :)--Noypi380 05:18, 10 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey again. I did what you suggested. I think its ok, but I think the new parts are too long, and I am not really good with the wording, but I think I got the idea across. Feel free to copyedit, trim, reword, suggest, criticize, etc. I really would like to improve the article. thanks. :) --Noypi380 10:53, 10 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so very much. You have been of great help. BTW I placed the article under Peer review already. :) --Noypi380 02:58, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Qind dynasty emress dowagers

edit

Hi thank u for telling me, i did not know i deleted the other subcategories as well. But i still think it doesn't make sence to make a subcategory on empress dowagers. cause they actually all hold the title of empress. It's also making it to complicated. Being an empress dowager is actually just a part of there live while there still alive. Because after they died they werent widows anymore.

Cleanup Requests

edit

Thanks, 'Confuzion', for adding category tags to my articles Xu Zheng, Lu Tong, & Sima Zhen. However, I do not know my way around Wiki that well, and I do not know how the article could be "cleaned up" better than it is. Do you have some links to point to, or very specific examples? (The "clean up" link did not have a reference). Thanks again, mamgeorge 17:32, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Translation request

There are some issues raised about the factuality of the article in the discussion page. The author didn't cite many of his sources. I'll wait until the issue is settled before translating. DHN 06:02, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

 • 1. Check out MoS, I did not remove the pinyin spelling in favor of the WG spelling. -- Tǒpīc (characters) OK
 • 2. Introduction of factual errors, i.e. "He served under one king and two emperors" -- for your information the original title was two kings and emperors.
 • 4. Is there any rule to prevert any moving of the categories to the middle of the article?
 • 5. The Prime minister succession contain factual errors and is incomplete, which is why it shouldn't be there. Please check out the "List of other famous Chancellors and (since 1052) Prime Ministers"

Besides the addition of grammatical errors, what else? Please list a better explanation, if not I'm got to reverted it all back. Eiorgiomugini 14:13, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

For your information the MoS clearly states its OK to input a format this way. I had no idea what did you meant by the whole article should be written with tone marks for the sake of consistency, I hope this is not just your POV, If there's any rule that applies to this please let me know, because there' articles actually remain in this format. There are more errors in the article which you never fixed it either, for example The next emperor then killed Zhao Gao, and then killed himself as the dynasty collapsed., there was no emperor right in the middle of this events. If there's grammatical errors you should fix it, not remove it - the section that you removed is not inaccurate Eiorgiomugini 20:39, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edit War over Formatting?

edit

Confuzion, Hello.

I am a little new to the edit wars, and am extremely baffled by the "energetic efforts" of a particular wikipedian to alter Chinese related stubs.
You have corrected articles of mine in the past, and you always explained your reasons, and they have always made sense. However, this individual has made scores of corrections to mine and others articles, removing information, forcing an incorrect format requirement, and not detailing why. (When a reason is given, the grammar is so poor I can not be sure this individual understands the issues).
He has reverted so many of my contributions, I am losing track of the articles. I have lost hours of time trying to understand, communicate, and patiently request reasons for his choices. The Lie Yukou talk page is the latest example. Could you glance at it, and give me your feedback? This is a short one and illustrates the issue.
If this is not the right venue, or if you think my approach is wrong, please comment. Thank you!

Maps

edit

Despite our disageements on the Abaoji topic, which I will get back to later because I really want to finish the edits I have been working on for the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period first, do you know if it is ok to take a map from a book, create a map using software based on that map, and then use it on Wikipedia? If so, do you know someone who can do it? I can scan the maps, but I don't have the required software. The maps I have have to do with Chinese history related articles and I think can be very helpful for Chinese history related pages.

Redirects

edit

I have been trying to fill in some of the massive gaps in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period on Wikipedia. However, there are some redirects needed (i.e. Guo Wei needs to redirect to Emperor Taizu of Later Zhou) Can you please tell me how to do the redirects so I can create them. I have about five or six I need to do, plus I need to rename an article (but that I know how to do).

Again, I will bring up the Abaoji disagreements when I get there on my to do list, which you can see on my user page. BTW, I found another site that supports my view, though I don't consider that source as authoritative as my original source. Still, I want to put that on hold now while I finish this other work.

Ludahai 00:26, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help. FYI, I am making redirects for the names of emperors and moving perviously made pages to reflect posthumous names. It will take a couple of days, but I am already about half done. I am also adding succession boxes and rulers tables for the dynasties/kingdoms for the 5D10K. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
