moving ship pages edit

Please stop moving ship pages. For the cases I've looked at, these pages, at one time, had hull number disambiguators but were moved to new titles without the hull number disambiguator because there are no other ships of the same name and so, no need for a disambiguator.

Please restore the pages that you have moved.

See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships)#Naming articles about military ships.

Hello , Trappist the monk:
Saw your message.
Not good at English , so i ask another way to you , with the issue i had.
Before I moved those ship articles with adding hull number.
I already saw some ship article with hull number , which are no need for disambiguator in it as well.
I wanted to ask , is there any problem of it ? Am i violate guideline that you posted ?
Also , the main thing , Is my movement , affect your search of those article ?
Not trying to be rude to you but please understand i'm not good at English.
-- Comrade John (talk) 14:38, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
One conversation in one place, please.
The basic rule is: do not use disambiguation unless it is needed. Too many ship articles were created with disambiguation. We have slowly been fixing those. You are undoing our hard work.
Yes, moving articles that do not need disambiguation to titles with disambiguation does violate the guideline. Because of redirects, finding these articles is not a problem.
Trappist the monk (talk) 15:00, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Like i said , i'm not moving those articles with disambiguation such as USS Wickes and it's disambiguator USS Wickes (DD-75) and USS Wickes (DD-578).
I'm moving those articles with putting hull numbers is because , for the way i see it , the US ship title without hull number is incomplete , the readers don't know what type of ship is about when they see the title , especially to those unique ship article such as USS Cassin Young (DD-793).
In short , I just wanted it tidy.
If i'm undoing your fixing , i apologize. -- Comrade John (talk) 15:21, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
USS Wickes is a ship index page; it does not need to be disambiguated. USS Wickes (DD-75) and USS Wickes (DD-578) share the name Wickes so must be disambiguated. There was only one USS Cassin Young so it does not need and should not be disambiguated. The guideline Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships)#Naming articles about military ships refers to the policy Wikipedia:Article titles#Precision and disambiguation (policy > guideline). The policy says that the article title should be USS Cassin Young not USS Cassin Young (DD-793).
I understand why you would have all US warship article titles include the hull number. Unfortunately, doing that, is against en.wiki policy.
Trappist the monk (talk) 15:45, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Just a heads up - I've gone through and reverted all of these page moves. Thanks. Parsecboy (talk) 18:55, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removal of periscope photo from Gato-class article edit

I noticed that you removed a periscope photo of a sinking Japanese ship from the Gato-class article. I put these photos in most of the WWII submarine class articles to illustrate the extensive combat operations of WWII US submarines. This primarily involved sinking Japanese ships. I think it is definitely related to the article. RobDuch (talk) 18:54, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Could you please start providing sources for your changes here, or at least leave an Edit summary to explain them? Britmax (talk) 19:11, 13 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

US subs edit

I see you're adding the laid down and struck dates to a lot of US subs in the infobox and/or the lede. Firstly the stuff in the infobox should be taken from the text of the article and secondly anything in the text should be cited. I've noticed you just adding the laid down date into the lede and leaving the cite as DANFs which doesn't give a laid down date. You need to cite it all with your source. Great to see someone working on the little ships. On your query on the project page I use (although they are now quite dated) the Ian Allen series titled xxxxxxx Warships of World War I or II. Heres an example Austro-Hungarian Warships of World War I Hardcover – 15 Apr 1976 by Rene Greger (Author) - price currently is ridiculous, normally under £20 Lyndaship (talk) 18:21, 15 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Have a look at WP:CITING SOURCES which explains things. Btw if someone posts on your talk page its best to reply on that page to save fragmented conversations Lyndaship (talk) 07:35, 16 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Re: Template:Costa Rican elections edit

Hi. The Central American Federal Republic was a very loose connection of states, each of it with its own constitution and congresses, like the US although probably with even more internal autonomy, thus even as member of the Federation it (and all other countries) held elections for their own respective state congress (and in theory for the Federal Congress too, tho this wasn't always done).

About the other thing, as far as I can tell almost always that there was presidential election there were also elections to Congress, exceptions may exist but I'll had to check the Electoral Court's historical government used for each case which you can check [here]. --Dereck Camacho (talk) 09:02, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for April 25 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited German submarine U-1107, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brest. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

October 2033 edit

  Moved from my tp

RE:October 2023

I don't understand , am I making editing errors and making edit conflicts with others ?

If you refer to those U-boat articles' infobox parameters fixing , I know what I'm doing , I don't even need to preview those changes before saving and I didn't vandalise any of it.

Please understand the whole story before you send this kind of messages , thank you. Comrade John (talk) 06:49, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I, like most editors here, like to keep talk page dicussions in one place, (and as also noted in WP:CROSS-POST). As such, it should remain here, where it began.

What first caught my attention were the multiple edits to Lyndaships's tp, for just one small post. Even your post on my tp took two edits. And your history shows the same issue on other articles, as well as talk pages. We all make mistakes, but using the preview function every time, for every edit, helps to cut down on those mistakes, and the need for follow up edits to correct them, which in turn helps to avoid leaving errors in articles, (ones that aren't corrected), and helps to cut down on the number of edits that clog up page histories and blow up watch lists. This was just a simple reminder that you could either pursue and make an issue of, or just quietly take it on board and move on. Up to you, but either way, have a nice day - wolf 07:19, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
