Hybrid-core computing

The AfD closed this as merge Hybrid-core computing to Heterogeneous computing. The latter was subsequently deleted as a copyvio and the former (now redirected) was deleted as a dependent page. Heterogeneous computing was later recreated, but without the merged material. I have restored the history of Hybrid-core computing so, if you wish, you can reapply the merge from the history. You could even roll back the page to be a standalone article, but if you do that you may need to be prepared to defend it at a new AfD if someone nominates it again. ACTRIAL:

• WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

• Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

• A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

• There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

• Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

• The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

• A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

• Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
• The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

@Orangemike: Notability has nothing to do with the awards one has won or any other such accomplishments. It's about nontrivial coverage in reliable, independent sources. And a quick Google search does not return much fitting that description. Can you find something better? I can say that I personally let notability tags sit on articles for at least a week before actioning them, and I often then forget that I was monitoring an article in the first place, meaning it sits much longer. Why?

Why didnt you comment on Abdullah al Harari talk page instead of just removing the RFC. Its not a simple matter because it was removed many times, the page is targeted by people who do not like the subject, please comment and watch the page for suspicious activity atleast. Good question. The reason is that RfC is typically used to gain outside opinions and form a consensus on something that is being disputed. The talk page didn't indicate that anyone had expressed opposition to this edit, and I don't see in the article history that any content additions have recently been reverted. Policy encourages editors to be bold and just make changes they believe would be beneficial; if someone disagrees, then you can go to the talk page. Even in that case, usually one simply discusses it with the other person "informally": RfC isn't a method of a first resort. As such, I didn't find the RfC tag to be necessary in this particular case, and because editors like myself may be summoned to talk pages by bots when there are an ongoing RfCs, I wanted to remove it so that those editors are instead directed to conversations where their input is actually needed. But since you are asking for my opinion, I have no objections to adding the sentence either. —Compassionate727 ^(T·C) 03:21, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Re: "CMIO" redirects

I decided to make this request because, prior to the new redirects being created, a search for "CMIO" redirects to Demographics of Singapore, and I was forced to use an external search engine to find the article that I was looking for. I am honestly not sure which of the redirects that I requested would be more or less likely to be used as a search term by other users, since in my mind I might have decided to use any of them, depending on which choice came to mind first. In any case, thank you for your suggestions.

@MrX: I noted this at the time, and I can certainly understand the WP:DENY aspect of this. However, it seems to me that the purpose of highlighting these things is to notify editors that their edits and/or the pages they are editing are being scrutinized by media, which is clearly the case here. I guess I don't entirely understand why it is that editors of contentious pages shouldn't be made aware that someone (however disgraced they may be here on Wikipedia) is making claims to a broader public that there is sweeping systemic bias. I would imagine this should (or at least could) inform their conduct: if nothing else, problems with invective on Donald Trump-related talk pages do not lend themselves to appearances of cordiality and fairness. Those are just my musings, of course, and I'm entirely uninformed on this. But could you perhaps explain to me the holes in my logic and/or the actual purpose of the press template (if these two points aren't strongly related)? I'm legitimately curious. To me, the TDA article is just whiney conspiracy theories and half-baked goofs, with tabloid-style wording that insinuates a murky and garbled narrative. I see my words have been misintepreted. Apparently I have dived head-first into an issue in I have neither knowledge or experience (as I seem to have a talent for doing), and I apologize for the apparent mess I have caused. My goal is not to create a chilling effect, although I acknowledge as I did above that highlighting said article could cause some of the same effects. That said, if the way the policies are being implemented is not illegitimate, I see no reason that this should result in a chilling effect, but I must admit that as an Autistic editor, the nuances of reactions to things like this are lost on me. When I read an article like that, I merely note that someone believes some editors are not following NPOV on Trump-related articles; I take it others' reactions are more substantial than that, although each person who posted here seems to have had a somewhat different reaction, so I won't go to the trouble to generalize how normal people react.

I will note that I did suggest that a reduction in invective (to decrease the appearances of foul-play) could be an effect, which to my mind is a rational response to a discernible problem. I will, however, concede that this is, for the most part, "wishful" thinking on my part, especially if everyone considers it as ridiculous as SPECIFICO does. Also, whether the reduction in invective and the suppression of legitimate speech (the definition of a chilling effect) are equatable is another debate, which I would at this point consider of secondary importance. I was simply wanting to ensure editors of the relevant articles are aware this is happening, which these responses clearly indicate you all are; as such, my point for posting the link stands moot.

I thank Geogene for referring me to that policy, which I do recall reading about in other, historical discussions now that I have been reminded of it. However, I am generally more cognizant of WP:OUTING, a related but distinct policy, due to its greater prominence in various things I encounter on a regular basis, so this had entirely slipped my mind. This policy does articulate the reasons one wouldn't want to include this article rather effectively. Also, for the sake of my curiosity and to help prevent me from making mistakes like this in the future, I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me what the general purpose of the press template is; I suppose I haven't scoured every potential source of information, but I didn't find anything while looking around at the time, and because I already have a bunch of editors following this conversation, someone already read this question might be able to answer it.

I don't know if there's a formal definition of what is or is not press for that template. But I understand it to mean somewhat established media outlets, with centralized editing boards, that would generally pass the RS criteria if they were to be used as sources in articles. That piece was from Medium.com, which is essentially a blog host. Content from there would not generally pass reliable source criteria unless it were written by a recognized expert, so most people probably wouldn't include it in their definition of 'the press'. If they did, there would probably be negative consequences for civility if it became accepted practice to needle enemies offsite, and then carefully document all of it permanently on high traffic talk pages. It would also dilute the visibility of mentions in the "real" press, which is what I think the template is intended to document. Geogene (talk) 01:16, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors June 2018 News Welcome to the June 2018 GOCE newsletter, in which you will find Guild updates since the February edition. Progress continues to be made on the copyediting backlog, which has been reduced to 7 months and reached a new all-time low. Requests continue to be handled efficiently this year, with 272 completed by the end of May (an average completion time of 10.5 days). Fewer than 10% of these waited longer than 20 days, and the longest wait time was 29 days. Wikipedia in general, and the Guild in particular, experienced a deep loss with the death on 20 March of Corinne. Corinne (a GOCE coordinator since 1 July 2016) was a tireless aide on the requests page, and her peerless copyediting is a part of innumerable GAs and FAs. Her good cheer, courtesy and tact are very much missed. March drive: The goal was to remove June, July and August 2017 from our backlog and all February 2018 Requests (a total of 219 articles). This drive was an outstanding success, and by the end of the month all but eight of these articles were cleared. Of the 33 editors who signed up, 19 recorded 277 copy edits (425,758 words). April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 15 through 21 April, focusing on Requests and the last eight articles tagged in August 2017. At the end of the week there were only 17 pending requests, with none older than 17 days. Of the nine editors who signed up, eight editors completed 22 copy edits (62,412 words). May drive: We set out to remove September, October and November 2017 from our backlog and all April 2018 Requests (a total of 298 articles). There was great success this month with the backlog more than halved from 1,449 articles at the beginning of the month to a record low of 716 articles. Officially, of the 20 who signed up, 15 editors recorded 151 copy edits (248,813 words). Coordinator elections: It's election time again. Nominations for Guild coordinators (who will serve a six-month term for the second half of 2018) have begun, and will close at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible, and self-nominations are encouraged. Voting will take place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June. Re: "Iguanagate" redirects

I see that you asked for sources that show that "Iguanagate" was a commonly used nickname. I have procured these two Sydney Morning Herald articles as examples of the common use of the term, and I am certain that there are many more news articles from the time that reference the nickname, and I can also personally say, as a person living in Australia, that the nickname was extensively used in the media when the scandal was recent (it was actually the first time that I heard the "-gate" suffix used, as I was not born when the Watergate scandal happened). Yeah, it occured to me as I was responding to this that I could have easily found sources by simply Googling "Iguanagate". I didn't mention it in my reply because I didn't want to set some strange precendent that reveiwers need to do the searching for sources. Also, apparently the scandal had more to do with Belinda Neal than her husband? There seems to be need for reshifting of information within these articles, although Iguanagate could probably be a separate article, given the state of sourcing. Contrary to popular belief, decisions of state supreme courts are generally the ultimate law of the state, and are not subject to appeal to the United States Supreme Court absent an issue of federal constitutional law. @Amorymeltzer: I didn't think so, for a couple of reasons: 1) the RfD is to nuke the ~1000 of them created by R64Q, not every one in the category. If the discussion was to delete every one in the category, adding another one wouldn't matter, because we'd still delete every one in the category, but that's not the discussion at hand (those discussions are informal). The other, secondary reason is that 2) it doesn't look like there will be consensus to delete. @Kohlrabi Pickle: Of course, although I am not entirely sure I understand the confusion. You say you do not know how to key inline citations, yet they are merely the content within the <ref></ref> tags. I haven't screened your edits to verify, but I'm certain that you must have used those before. Are you saying you are unsure how to generate brief inline citations and link them to a bibliography? I can help you with that if you like (I think), but that isn't necessary. The template is simply saying that there is some information in the article that isn't attributed to a specific source, such as almost the entire academic career section. Everything on Wikipedia needs to be attributed to a specific source per our verfifiability policy. For the academic career section, if that one source at the end supports everything in that section, you should repeat the citation every time a distinct claim is made; at a minimum, this will be every paragraph, and it may be more frequent.
