Speedy deletion nomination of Elizabeth Blancas

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Elizabeth Blancas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Feedback on your draft

Your article isn't at the stage yet where it's ready to go "live" in mainspace. A major issue is that your sourcing doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards, especially not for a biography of a living person.

  • I don't understand how your first source, an entry for Charles Haight, a 19th century artist, applies at all. It doesn't support the statement you're using it for: Elizabeth Blancas is a first generation queer Xicana artist based in the Bay Area.
  • Your second source, from El Tecolote, does discuss Blancas' work, so it's probably usable, but it is a very local source - possibly too local to be used to support a claim of notability.
  • The YouTube link probably could be used like any interview with a person - it isn't an independent source of information about them - and I'm not sure that Unceded Voices is really a notable source, so the fact that they interviewed Blancas can't be used as evidence of notability.
  • The Chabot Spectator and Eastern Door sources are just passing mention about Blancas.

So the first thing you need to do is find better sources.

The next thing you need to do is say something about Blancas. Who is she? What do reliable sources say about her? Right now, you say a bit about her in the lead, but the lead is just supposed to be a summary of what's in the body of the article. If you say Elizabeth Blancas is a first generation queer Xicana artist based in the Bay Area, you need to discuss that in more detail in the article body. If you say She speacializes in muralism and screen printing and exploring themes around sexuality, culture, identity, and womanhood, this needs to be something that's discussed in more detail in the body of the article. Remember, you're reporting on what reliable sources say about Blancas. (You also need to copy-edit your work - a typo like "speacializes" should be underlined in your browser, and it should be easy to catch and fix.)

The bulk of your article is about three of her works. So that needs to be covered in the lead. You also need to be reporting what reliable sources say about them. Everything in the article needs to be supported by citations to reliable sources - currently most of your work has no supporting citations at all. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:06, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
