Welcome edit

Welcome!

Hello, Colinhorstmann, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one of your contributions does not conform to Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV). Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media.

There's a page about the NPOV policy that has tips on how to effectively write about disparate points of view without compromising the NPOV status of the article as a whole. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Exford, Somerset edit

Hi Colin, Thank you for your edits to Exford, Somerset and your comments on my talk page. I am slightly confused as to which of my edits in this diff you are referring to. I presume (seeing as you reinserted it) this relates to describing the Black Arabian stud and holiday cottages as "famous". This is considered a Peacock term which as no citation is given to support the claim appears to be personal opinion or promotional. Please take a look at some of the links in the welcome message above and familiarise yourself with some of the relevant policies which guide editing wikipedia.

You suggest that I should have contacted you as the person who added the material I edited. There is no requirement to do this, although there is a guidelines to use an Edit summary to explain why changes are being made for other editors. If you check I added a link in my edit summary to WP:UKCITIES which is a guideline setting out a recommended format for article about UK settlements, which includes the statement "Avoid peacock terms, such as "beautiful", "famous", "popular", "well-known", "significant", "important" and "obvious"". I could also have linked to the Manual of Style.

If you feel that any information in that (or any other) article is overly commercial or promotional then please remove it - but please do not threaten me or any other wikipedian with phrases such as "render you liable to financial penalties". Wikipedia doesn't exist to promote any commercial venture and other editors may suspect you have a Conflict of Interest.— Rod talk 19:48, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
