If you remember I sought help from other users recently with problems with another more experienced user, Jza84. I have no other help available I can see this editor raising his head again to conflict with me all I seek is someone to watch over this editors actions in the Liverpool area because of the problems he seems to create. I've a feeling, though, that this request will be rejected since it seems outside the usual activities of ArbCom and there are other community avenues that haven't been exhausted yet (an RfC is looking like a possibility if this continues, I feel, although I've personally no energy or time to start one up: if you do go down that route let me know and I'll happily provide an 'outside view' though). Hi

Apologies for not raising a discussion, really didn't think it would be that much of an issue. ?Yes, I did realise that changing the userbox colours affected all that used it, that was the point? It wasn't meant maliciously, just an improvement and going with the philosophy of making BOLD edits.

Well, thankfully, it's all a matter of policy and not opinion as to whether an article gets deleted or not. Otherwise we'd have 50% of the 'pedia being deleted on the one hand, and the other 50% undergoing deletion review...So, you're welcome for the policy clarifications in the AfD discussion. Well, AfD led to my ridiculous block not so long ago, so I sympathise. It took a lot of courage for me to even revisit that aspect of Wikipedia, let alone defend an article for deletion. However, at the end of the day we're here to work on articles not engage in petty squabbles so if the article holds merit in accordance with the content policies then it sticks. If not, then it gets deleted. It may be an 'idealist's' view, but at the same time I believe it does play out in practice! Anyway, you made a strong case for rejecting the AfD nomination and sourced the article extremely well so it came as no surprise - and that's from someone who isn't a member of those projects you were accused of canvassing, and someone who isn't a Satanist ;-) Coldmachine^Talk 23:05, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad you maybe feel more confident at AfD now. I see that Jimbo unblocked you at the time- did you mail him directly or how else did you manage to get unblocked? I need to read the AfD that caused all the problems, (just because I'm nosy lol) but can't easily find it. I know of one of the Oxford Presses concerned of course- spoke to the bloke on the phone a couple of times years ago about Oxford Golden Dawn Occult Society (which you'dve thought would at least be a deleted article lol but clearly it's not one of which IPSOS was a fan.) But I don't think it was that one you got wrongly accused about. If you'd rather not talk about this publicly feel free to mail me instead or something, if you like. I would be interested in your opinion on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Seichim, as a nom. I am pretty much apathetic about it. This is not canvassing, I'm genuinely interested in your opinion, one way or the other, but I might hazard a guess about what it will be.:) If the article's deemed worthy I will spend some time on it. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

Oooh jealous lol, I thought Tintagel was adventurous:) When you're in SF you have to go in a relatively wholesome gay bar and dance to rubbish pop music for me.:) Well, I hope they do something as clean-cut as that lol:) A B&B for the night in Glastonbury is my next plan as my friend User:Tuxraider reloaded just went with a load of posh people, they wouldn't go in any of the ridiculously overpriced flakey new age shops, and declared the pubs, which have proper local cider, to be not exciting enough and would not enter. erm, I'm not sure, but I presume this is the procedure....

I think you've removed my external link to http://www.hoylakejunction.com on the entry for Hoylake ?

If I'm correct, can I ask why you did that? I'm finding that locals and ex-residents are finding my site of interest and I think there's some merit in an external link to my site. How do I get my link including again (other than by just adding it back) ?

Hi there, the link was removed per WP:LINKFARM and WP:SPAM. I'm sure that locals and ex-residents find your site to be of interest, but it is not relevant or pertinent to the article content and if we included blog links in every geographical area simply because they're written about, or by people, from that area then the project would simply become a directory which it isn't. My best advice would be to read through which external links should be avoided. In there you'll see #11, which states that "Links to blogs and personal web pages, except those written by a recognized authority" should be excluded. Hope that helps clarify. editing tools

I'm a zealous convert lol and wondered if you have ever tried to use WP:TWINKLE or WP:FRIENDLY. Or you could just ask for WP:ROLLBACK:the rollback tool from an admin. You would get it for sure. These all make it so much easier to revert vandals, speedy delete articles and other stuff. I thought they'd lead to me making more mistakes but they haven't really, and the extra mainspace edits help justify my presence here lol, not that you need that. Also, the Oxford Round Table article has been mentioned on WP:AN/I again, not that you'd probably want to get involved. Sticky Parkin 12:39, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh, crikey, I backed out of the ORT discussions last time after my attempts to bring both sides together ended in spectacular failure. They need heads banging together if you ask me! It's like being in the schoolyard again...!

In terms of editing tools: I've had rollback for a long while now, several months at least. Never really feel the need to use it: it's a pretty giant eraser to tackle vandalism and since most vandalism is a single edit or so then it's easier to just 'undo' that edit. I've used it a few times on Liverpool though, where strings of vandalism appear from time to time. Heard about Twinkle, never tried it though. What's it like/is it easy to use? In some skins I can't get Twinkle to work. I had to convert to the monobook/default skin. But User:Berean Hunter has not had that problem with it. It's really easy to add, even for a disconfident user of code etc like me. You can warn vandals with one click, choosing from lots of different warning templates I otherwise can rarely remember. With WP:FRIENDLY you can just click to choose from lots of welcome templates. With Twinkle you can make a CSD or AFD quicker too apparently. It's just nice to have the tabs/options there.:) You could add it and see if you like it in your tabs at the top etc and get on with it..Sticky Parkin 13:36, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, I don't know that situation too well but you could try WP:SSP. I don't think a CU is valid here because User:Solar eclipse17 has very few edits that would suggest evasion of an existing community ban, as was the case with the nest of puppets associated with User:Ekajati. You will need to provide diffs with evidence. A good bet would be to show how edit summaries are identical, or similar, or to show where the same content is being reinserted or removed by both editors in the same manner. Hope that helps. Yes, they were both farm cats which we rescued. They were feral, and Teddy pretty much stayed like that for most of his life. We were just convenient sources of food, shelter and warmth! He was a very rewarding cat though. Well, both of them are. Simmy is much more the placid one. I think their part-feral background explains why they've lived so long - very few health problems at all until recently. And, we realised, Teddy was actually 19 before he passed. Simmy is 19 and still going... (like most old men, he just sleeps the days away though!). Your Monkey is absolutely adorable!!! Coldmachine^Talk 21:59, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Ahhh, but Teddy did! He was a very very messy cat. Used to come in with twigs, leaves, even slugs, all stuck to his tail. He'd come strutting in all haughty, and then we'd end up in hysterics because he didn't realise he had all this garbage stuck to him. Hmm...kittens do have that problem, you're right! Kittens often seem to come from their old homes in a right state. Not that we've really seen any but the internets say it is often worms in kittens that causes it. Harvest Time @ COTW

Silk

Please, I would need a third opiniomn on this matter. I added new pictures tto this article, which loked like this before [3] My only goal was to make the article better, to illustrate the silk history, see the article here [4] After a while many pictures have been removed, see [5]. I sincerely think that the article was better illustrated before (for ex. the Chinese silk history section). Images should depict their content well. One current picture is so dark that you can not se anything on it, an other shows horses and you can hardly spot the silk. Many good pictures have been removed, depicting the worms and the cocoons, relevant to the history of silk, and so on... But I wonder what your oppinion is. I do not feel like arguing about something I am uncertain about.

Thanks for the request for a third opinion. I've taken a look at the article with expanded pictures, and the current version with selected images, and I have to agree that the current version is more appealing to read. If you read the image use policy it does warn that too many images in an article can make it difficult to read and may damage the layout. In the earlier version with all of the incorporated images, you can see that the table of production was forced down the page to accommodate the pictures you had used. The current version layout is much more aesthetic. Remember, images are only really intended to be used as illustrative examples, and you don't need so many to accomplish that. You could raise a discussion on the talk page to see about incorporating a Wikimedia Commons gallery on the article page, as an alternative. Hope that helps!
