Addition of http://.coinproject.com edit

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because it has been identified as an account used for promotion of a company or group, with a username that implies that this has been done by that company or group. See Wikipedia:Business' FAQ and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia policies. In addition, the use of a username like yours violates our username policy.

Request reason:

You have blocked my account, but did you bother to look at Coinproject.com? CoinProject is a numismatic research website with a sole purpose of providing educational resources that relate to numismatics (the study of coins). It is non-commercial and similar to wikipedia in one way- we depend on just over 100 volunteers to edit and approve data. Not to mention that the link I provided is 100% relevant to the page where I added it. In fact, if you look at the existing link to wildwinds.com and compare it to ours, we have considerably more unique types of coins for many of the Roman Imperial emperors. I was NOT spamming Wikipedia.

I created this ID to differentiate so that I can do "coin stuff" using this account. It also allows me to set my notifications and email to my coinproject email account.

You haven't read your block message and pages it links to. Please do so now. Max Semenik (talk) 14:38, 13 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I did read the block message and pages it links to. My link was not left with the purpose of "promotion of a company or a group". If you want me to change the username that is fine, but I am not sure what specific reason(s) my account was blocked. I also see that my IP address was blocked from creating an account. What exactly did I do that went against the rules here? The link I posted was relevant and took the reader directly to the category on the site where the coins of the specific emperor are located. I thought the idea behind Wikipedia was to allow users to contribute quality content. If you are going to do something as harsh as blocking a user and IP address without warning or actually checking the content to see if it is valid content, quite frankly I am sorry I ever contributed to Wikipedia at all.

Decline reason:

At Wikipedia, we all agree to avoid linking to our own web sites. So far, you haven't indicated an interest in doing anything else. Are you interested in helping to contribute to Wikipedia without linking to your own web site? If you are, you can request unblocking to change your username. Wikipedia doesn't permit us to use the name of our web site as a username. If you sense a theme here, you're right- people promoting themselves, their businesses, their web sites, their bands... it's probably the most serious problem Wikipedia has, which is why the rules against it are so firm. Don't worry- if your web site really is the best available source, then it's inevitable that others will cite it when they use it to get information. However, I've looked at your web site, and it looks like it would not meet Wikipedia's reliable source criteria because it is generated by its users, without an editorial fact-checking staff. That's the reason that Wikipedia itself doesn't meet the criteria for a reliable source- and we think Wikipedia is a pretty good web site, so don't feel that your web site has been disparaged just because it isn't useful for Wikipedia sourcing. To sum up: If you want to be unblocked, you'll need a new username: use the template {{unblock-un|your new username here}} to make it clear what your new username will be. You'll also need to make it clear that you have read the reliable source guidelines, and are willing to avoid linking to your own web site in the future. Do you still want to volunteer at Wikipedia under those conditions? FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 19:32, 13 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I missed where you said that you have another Wikipedia account already. There's no reason for this account to be unblocked, in that case- in general, Wikipedia editors avoid using more than one account anyway. If this block is affecting your ability to edit with your primary account, you can request the unblock from that account, making it clear that you aren't planning to link to your own web site in the same way I described above. - — Preceding unsigned comment added by FisherQueen (talkcontribs)

FisherQueen- Please note that our site (it is not MY site, it is a collaborative effort) is moderated. Before a record can be verified, it must be checked against the references cited. It is a very time consuming process which has made it painfully slow to add records (which is why we only have 50,300 approved records) BUT our records are 99% accurate whereas other sites have a 50-80% accuracy rate.

I am unable to find another account. Apparently the changes I made to my father's wikipedia page were done without an account and the changes only show an IP address.

As for other contributions, I am always willing to contribute bibliographic citations that are numismatic in nature and I own the copyright to over 5,000 photographs of ancient coins (my actual business is as a coin dealer, I do not mention my business on CoinProject at all because it would go against our policies.

WP:IAR (Non-administrator comment) deny as a request for unblock for a username change (without a reason) for WP:COI and WP:SPAM will be declined as there must be a reason to be unblocked, not just for your username to be changed. ~~Ebe123~~ → report 15:54, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
