Orphaned non-free media (Image:Wren01.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Wren01.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 13 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:SVTlogo-old.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:SVTlogo-old.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:05, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:THFFI.jpeg edit

Thanks for uploading File:THFFI.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:24, 10 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cochituate. Wikipedia generally requires verification of copyright ownership when logos such as this are uploaded under a free license just to make sure it can be kept. There are a couple ways this can be done as explained in the above template, so whichever works for you is fine. In addition, it's not clear as to whether you wanted to upload this file under a free license or as non-free content since you have appeared to have also tried to provide a "fair use rationale" for the file as well. Please be advised that while Wikipedia does allow some copyrighted content to be uploaded and used, its requirements are more restrictive than typical "fair use" and it's these requirements which need to be met if you choose to go that route. How a file is licensed pretty determines how it can be used on Wikipedia; so, if you can clarify whether this file is intended to be "free" or "non-free", then it will be easier to try and sort this out. Feel free to ask for help below or at WP:MCQ if you have any questions. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:40, 10 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:SVTlogo-old.jpg edit

The file File:SVTlogo-old.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free former logo whose use fails WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFC#cite_note-4. The file would have no problem being used for primary identification purposes in a stand-alone article Sudbury Valley Trustees if such an article existed, but its non-free use in the Morgan article is not really justified. There's no specific sourced commentary related to the logo itself, and showing it just because someone at the Sudbury Valley Trustees or Morgan's son feels it's OK to be shown is not nearly the same as complying with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. One of things about non-free content is that original copyright holder permission is not needed for a file to be used, which is why non-free use tends to be quite restrictive (even more restrictive that fair use). If, however, the Sudbury Valley Trustees or the current copyright holder of the logo wants to release it under a free license that Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons accepts, then its use would no longer be subject to Wikipedia's non-free content use policy and could be more easily used.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:48, 12 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
