Rudi

edit

Saw your note on my talk page. Sounds like your on the right track. Regarding links, I wasn't aware that all of the people you mention are teachers in Rudi's lineage, so it might be appropriate to link to their pages, perhaps with the caveat that we don't have mutliple links to sites that essentially say the same thing or don't themselves use reliable sources for their material (that's just my opinion by the way). Congrats for keeping the article neutral and reliably sourced (two of the pillars of Wikipedia's philosophy). If their are differing viewpoints on his teachings and philosophies those viewpoints are allowed representation in the article as long as they are reliably sourced and not fringe material and not just mere opinions (paradoxically that's just my opinion).TheRingess (talk) 17:32, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Keep up the good work

edit

I think you are doing great work on the Rudi article (even though I keep deleting material). For an article that's only been around a couple of weeks, it's one of the best I've seen (take that with a grain of salt). Regarding external links, might I suggest that some of his students may qualify for their own article (see WP:BIO, in short we need to know that we have enough independant, verifiable biographical material to create an article more than a couple of sentences in length), and should they, then you can create articles for them; including the relevant links on those articles. Take care.TheRingess (talk) 17:18, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Editing a Redirect page

{{helpme}} How does one go about accessing the actual page of a designated redirect page to remove the redirect command and replace it with an article? Thank you.--Cminard (talk) 11:56, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

When you are the target of the redirect after following the redirect, at the top of the page there is a line "redirected from wherever" - if you click on that, you get it as a normal page which you can edit. Josh Parris 12:32, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

In relation to your edit of the Bernie Sanders lede, I thought I'd bring WP:LEADLENGTH to your attention. I've seen that four-paragraph limit cited frequently. Regards, Tarl N. (discuss) 05:12, 26 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oh, hey! Hi Cindy, I didn't realize you were someone I knew in real life. I'm Tarl Neustaedter, we met through Kevin. I worked with him at DEC in the early 80s and at Stratus until the mid '90s. I think the last time I saw you, we'd had lunch in Nashua with Bob Houk, another ex-TOPS10er. Drop me a line some time, we should chat about Wikipedia experiences :-). Tarl N. Hi Tarl - long time no see! How is the babe-magnet, called the 'heated seat' that you melted ice cream on that you-know-who once told me about? All the best, Cindy

I'm not sure who we know in common who could have passed that story on to you! In any case, if you're up for it, drop me a line and I'll buy you lunch sometime. Now that I'm retired, I haven't been to any of the Lowell restaurants in a while. If you go to my user page (User:Tarl N.), you should see (in the toolbox in the left column) an item "email this user". That's private, so you can give me an email address or phone number without broadcasting it to everyone on Wikipedia. If that item "email this user" isn't present, you might have to enable email in your Wikipedia preferences (WP:ENABLEEMAIL). It looks like you don't have incoming email enabled, so there isn't a comparable toolbox entry on your user page at this time. Tarl N. (discuss) 20:21, 28 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Cminard

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Cminard, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 02:28, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hindu Astrology page article rewrite

edit

Many years ago, the call went out to adopt and rewrite the Hindu Astrology article for Wikipedia, so I took on the project for several weeks, and then released it to the general Wikipedia community. Here is the original request from the Hindu Astrology Talk page, dated 5 February 2008Cindy Minard (talk) 16:47, 10 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Can somebody please adopt this article??

this article is in absolutely appalling shape. Every now and again, it is hit with large amounts of unformated, uncited and unsorted additions. It is absolutely unclear which parts are reliable and which aren't, and it is basically unreadable. Somebody will need to establish a strict regimen of WP:CITE and WP:RS. Once the article has been cleaned up into minimal compliance with WP guidelines, it should be semiprotected, or it will degenerate into a mess again within a few weeks (it is pointless to semiprotect it at its current stage). dab (𒁳) 09:20, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

One basic problem with this article is cultural: the traditional Indian passion, bordering on mania, for lists, where the longer a list is, the more impressive it automatically is (which encourages making stuff up on the spot too.) I've moved some of the excess to a separate article, Jyotiṣa resources, where a lot of it may eventually die the natural death that might not happen if the stuff remained here. rudra (talk) 12:38, 6 February 2008 (UTC) I realize this. However, listmania is rampant among many Wikipedians, and we have many brilliant Wikipedia:Featured lists. The cultural divide we appear to run against when dealing with Indian listmaniacs rather appears to be a notion that the less accessible (the more confused, jumbled and cryptic) a list is, the more impressive it is. This truly medieval (or Renaissance) attitude is of course the precise opposite of the idea of an encyclopedia. It results in unreadable articles, which doesn't bother the obscurantists, since an impressive article is evidently not intended for reading but for impressing the peons. I would find this charming in any context except as background noise to an encyclopedia project (in fact, I am also charmed by Western obscurantism of the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Eco's The Island of the Day Before and Baudolino are excellent reminders that this mentality was ubiquitous in "the West" as well, before the great intellectual leap known as the Enlightenment). If Wikipedia has one purpose beyond those that are project-immanent, it is the spreading the great successes of this period to corners of the globe that haven't been much exposed to it yet, without all the nasty bits (colonialism, slavery, religious war, etc.) that were historically attached to it. dab (𒁳) 13:13, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Pets of Vladimir Putin

edit

The article Pets of Vladimir Putin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not sure how this fits in with Wikipedia. Non notible topic.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If you disagree with the proposed deletion of Pets of Vladimir Putin, you can just remove the template starting with {{Proposed deletion/dated and ending with }}. There's no need to present a counter concern. clpo13(talk) 19:10, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

You put in the banner, and so you must remove it. I refuse to get into an edit war and be accused continually of 'disruptive editing'. Either you do it, or it will be deleted.Cindy Minard (talk) 19:22, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Another user added the notice. Once removed, the notice cannot be put back, per WP:PROD. There's no risk of an edit war regarding that, though the user who added the PROD template may seek deletion via another process, such as WP:AFD. clpo13(talk) 19:25, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Well, isn't this interesting. I could care less, actually, because I'm only trying to do Wikipedia a favor and improve things. Again, you have taken inappropriate action because you fail to describe exactly what the issue is, and so I don't really care what you do, or if at this point I even log into Wikipedia or click on a Google pointer to this software application. In any case, if you would be so kind as to add in the additional publications in Lamar Alexander's entry from his Amazon entries, that would be very nice of you. "Replacing proper sources with improper ones." Now, which ones would they be, and why did you not just push the 'UNDO' button as usual, I have no idea. I wouldn't want to press you for a real explanation or anything. Don't you feel ALL POWERFUL doing things like this? Good for you. If it pleases you and if you just like FEEL like it, go ahead and block my ability to edit forever and wipe out my account for good, because I fail to understand anything at all about what you are trying to accomplish after this fiasco. You haven't even given me the title of the article in question. Again, interesting.Cindy Minard (talk) 17:53, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Oh right...I just found them, in the article for President Vladimir Putin of Russia...his family references and any of his personal information has to come from 3rd party books, the BBC, and the New York Times, and not from his own sources such as "Russia Today" and his personal autobiography, "First Person, by Vladimir Putin". RT was a pointer to his divorce announcement, and the family information was a pointer to Amazon.com referring to his own information about his own ex-wife and children. Is that it? Just wanted to make sure. In any case, is the real message that you and your group of renegade expert Russophile editors have commandeered his entry permanently and any edits to your material will be severely dealt with? IS THAT IT? I wouldn't want to question you and your supreme Wikipedia authority, however.Cindy Minard (talk) 18:09, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I do not feel I should react to this, especially since you do not care.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:27, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for sharing.Cindy Minard (talk) 12:11, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have taken the liberty of contacting President Vladimir Putin of Russia on the official Kremlin website to let him and his staff personally know about this entire situation, and so even though you 'feel' as if you need not respond to me, perhaps you may 'feel' like explaining yourself to them at some point, or perhaps to the FBI, because I have asked them to watch this situation on their website as well. All the best.Cindy Minard (talk) 12:52, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked temporarily from editing for making legal threats or taking legal action. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia while the threats stand or the legal action is unresolved.

That is fine. As my original article entitled 'Max Hofmann' who is the European Bureau Chief for Deutsche Welle (Germany) in Belgium was just vandalized, I have taken the liberty of notifying him so that he can take over his own article and attempt to keep it in the way he would like it to be, and so I will not be needing to edit it.Cindy Minard (talk) 17:04, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

As you have made a statement which neither unconditionally revokes your legal threat nor indicates your legal action has been completed, I have revoked your talk page access. You are welcome to contact WP:UTRS to request an unblock. --Yamla (talk) 17:09, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
