Hi, ClueBot II hasn't been clearing out the redlinks from Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations since this edit on the 18th. It was incredibly useful and made our jobs a lot easier; I'd be grateful if we could get this function back! There was some trouble with CorenSearchBot due to the API a while ago, not sure if the two are related... Regards, – Toon(talk) 15:43, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your help!

Archival of Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (geographic names)

I noticed that while ClueBot III is archiving this page, there doesn't seem to be a proper index of recent archives appearing on the current talk page. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be handled by the bot, but if needs to be entered by hand, which is the template that should be used? --Paul_012 (talk) 06:15, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Clearing the Template

It is unhelpful of the bot to clear the test Template sandbox while I am actively working. Axl ¤ [Talk] 18:05, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Language ref desk edit

After spending hours sorting out some German/English history mess I was less than amused to have this clueless bot revert my edit. Hope it will stick this time. 71.236.26.74 (talk) 13:19, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect Archiving Resulting in Page Deletions

Somebody (or somebodies, I haven't looked into who yet) has configured ClueBot III incorrectly for talk page archiving across a lot of Talk: pages. This has caused ClueBot III to archive a whole bunch of talk pages at "Talk:Page 1" instead of "Talk:Page/Archive 1". As they show up as orphan talk pages, Orphaned talkpage deletion bot is deleting them. This is really content that should be kept. I've asked that bot's operator to put in a check for this case, but could you also update ClueBot to avoid this? There shouldn't really be a frequent reason for talk page contents (especially from the Talk: namespace) to archived anywhere else other than at a subpage. I know MiszaBot already implements this and requires a special key to archive at a non-subpage. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:54, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Wilcox Rebellion vs.Wilcox rebellions?

You left me a message? I had moved a section of this article to its own page. Viriditas had been complaining that the conflict boxes caused problems when a couple were put on a single page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.234.223.116 (talk) 00:24, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

How do I delete an archive?

I wish to delete an archive. This is so I can then restart the beast with a different Archive name (and softer parameters). This is part of the fallout from this mess. How do I do this? As far as I can tell, I need to:

  1. Delete Talk:Quadraphonic_sound/Archive_1
  2. Delete User:ClueBot_III/Master_Detailed_Indices/Talk:Quadraphonic_sound

Is there anything else I need to do? (If so, please add it to the list.) What I have done so far is to copy and paste the Archive back to the page, and comment out {{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis}}. I propose to use Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#G8 for the above two pages. HairyWombat (talk) 14:40, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Later. Both the above pages were speedy deleted -- in the end I used Criteria G6 -- but, when I re-enabled ClueBot III, the second page was recreated as an empty table. I assume that is OK. HairyWombat (talk) 05:46, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't know

Someone is hacking in my IP or something because I never blanked Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin and all of those other stuffs. I don't know what's happening. I need help because I might get block for no reason when I didn't do it. No one in my family is doing this to I swear and I'm for sure. Also I wouldn't want to vandilize page because that's just a waste of time. --216.105.208.2 (talk) 20:24, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

According to User_talk:216.105.208.2, this IP address has been used consistently for vandalism for the last two years. If this is not you then the solution is for you to register a Username. HairyWombat (talk) 20:32, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Alright I'll create one but what if my IP get block when I didn't do some of those --216.105.208.2 (talk) 20:38, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

In most cases of vandalism from an IP, only anon-users are blocked, and account holders remain free to edit. That's the whole point that HairyWombat was making. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:21, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Blanking a article

When Cluebot removed the vandalism, it also broke the infobox.

I fixed the infobox- have no idea if it matters on that page or might be a stuck spring somewhere and a one-time-issue.

David.snipes (talk) 00:13, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

It appears that ClueBot did a correct revert here. Then the IP messed up the infobox here. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 18:56, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Archivenow Parameter of user:Cluebot III Archive Template

The template really works good! But I am not clear about the Archive now parameter! How to insert multiple values in it? And also if I insert a template, e.g. {{tb}}. Then if in the page, {{tb}} is fount with its parameters, e.g. {{tb|Srinivas}}, then also will the bot archive it immediately??? --Srinivas 10:47, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

If you want {{tb}} to work, you should put |archivenow=<nowiki>{{tb,{{Tb,{{talkback,{{Talkback,{{someothertemplate,{{etc</nowiki> -- Cobi(t|c|b) 22:02, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

I need the header of a new archive page as {{User:Srinivas/Navigation|y}} but when I insert the code as

|header={{User:Srinivas/Navigation|y}}

then it it thinking "|y}}" part as a new parameter and it is only inserting "{{User:Srinivas/Navigation" how do I resolve this??? --Srinivas 09:14, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Try putting around the header - I.e., |header=<nowiki>{{User:Srinivas/Navigation|y}}</nowiki> ... Or just make a template which doesn't require a parameter. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 18:48, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Archiving broken on VPT?

Hi Cobi, it looks like your bot is removing threads from WP:VPT but they're not hitting the archive. Can you check it out please? Franamax (talk) 20:30, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Archiving is working correctly. See WP:VPT#Archiving seems to be broken. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:05, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Yep, looks good. Whoever came up with the idea of including spaces in filenames should be taken out to the back shed and shot. Translating between ASCII, UTF-8 and W3C-address encoding is enddlesly entertaining. Of course, I started with a system that allowed six bytes for a login name, hence my common moniker "franco" (and it hsd sixteen sense-switches and a knob you could turn to single-step through the OS and occupied a large room that eventually became my private office) All seems good now, so no bullets are needed. :) Franamax (talk) 23:23, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't know whether Cluebot can see the format space in [1] by reading the wikisource directly but it may be confusing to editors because the space is not passed to the template as far as I know. Help:Template#Template usage says:
"Whitespace characters (spaces, tabs, returns) are stripped from the beginnings and ends of named parameter values (unnamed parameters are unaffected), but not from the middle: thus {{ ... | myparam = this is a test }} will be treated as though the user had typed {{ ... |myparam=this is a test}}." PrimeHunter (talk) 00:58, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I wrote ClueBot III, and I made that edit. It would stand to reason I know what it can and can't do :) -- Cobi(t|c|b) 01:12, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I trust you. My point was that other editors may know how template parameters work but not details of how Cluebot makes its own parsing of template parameters, so they might in good faith remove the space. An underscore may be more stable. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:48, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Missed earlier warnings

Hi there! When ClueBot issued this vandalism warning it missed the fact that two other warnings had been issued this month (both, as it happens, by ClueBot). Consequently, Cluebot creeated a second "July 2009" section header under which it issued a level 1 warning where a level 3 warning would have been appropriate. I fixed the talk page when the vandalism continued and I issued a level 4 warning (being the 4th this month), however you may want to look into why ClueBot didn't spot its earlier warnings. Thanks for this excellent tool. -- Timberframe (talk) 12:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Prionomyrmex/Nothomyrmecia

Hi! I see with surprise that my use of the Name Prionomyrmex instead of Nothomyrmecia was automatically considered as a vandalism. As the Editor Wolfbla pointed out in the discussion page, use of the name Nothomyrmecia violates the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. I thought that no Editor nor the whole Wikipedia should be allowed to break the Code. I'll not insist , but the present version is obviously acting against the credibility and the quality of the encyclopedia. Sirolo (talk) 01:06, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Premature archiving of threads on this page

ClueBot III archived my "Missed earlier warnings" section within three days of me posting it and before anyone had posted a response. This seems premature or, if deliberate, discourteous. Either way it discourages editors from making constructive comments. -- Timberframe (talk) 13:30, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm noticing the same thing. It just archived the talk for System of a Down twice when there were still active conversations going... And its not like its a full talk page - It's empty! -- ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 18:15, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Hmm... just looked in this page's archive for July: 17 archived threads, only 5 of them containing any sort of response. I wonder if anyone even realises. -- Timberframe (talk) 18:33, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Ouch... Might be better to post this on the content noticeboard if it's malfunctioning. -- ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 18:40, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Where's that? -- Timberframe (talk) 18:42, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

It archived it correctly according to it's settings. It is designed to archive threads after 3 days of inactivity, which it did, just a few minutes after 3 days had elapsed. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 20:31, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

That doesn't really answer the observation. Is it a reasonable way to treat well-meaning editors who take the time and trouble to make constructive comments to allow the bot to archive their comments without any response? I took the trouble to reinstate my comment twice before you answered it; many editors would have given up and gone away dispondent. It's hardly in the spirit of collaboration to invite comments and then ignore them, is it? -- Timberframe (talk) 20:42, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

ClueBot III

Hi
Weird things are happening with archive indexing, apparently: See this edit to AzaToth's index page.
Not sure if it's a problem with the setup of the ArchiveThis template or with the bot code.

The page i was accused of vandalising/editing was a page that I created. I was only trying to see if I could delete the page since it is a page that I was trying to merge with another page. It was not my intention to vandalise a page that I created. If it is possible, can the page be deleted or is that impossible. thank you Tami4875 (talk) 07:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

How can I vandalize my own page

The page i was accused of vandalizing was a page that I the author of that page created. Bot shows on RC

This bot shows in Recent Changes even with the option "Hide bot edits" enabled... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:19, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

It's standard practice for anti-vandalism bots to not bot-flag their edits. The rationale is that such edits cannot be certain to be correct, and so they ought to show up in RC for humans to spot mistakes. Philip Trueman (talk) 13:55, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Criticism section?

We have an approximately five-mile long list of praise for ClueBot, should this not be balanced out by the addition of a section focusing on the faults of (and critcism of) ClueBot? For example, reverting edits involving such things as expletives and links, even when they are not vandalism? I have had experience of this myself involving a quote containing an expletive. TR-BT at about quarter past five, 30 July. P.S. Sorry for not signing this, but I really can't afford to waste about four hours figuring out how to do so.

There should be a line at the top of the edit box for a talk page asking you to remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes. Hey, it's a bot; it makes mistakes. Its user page says explicitly "This bot will not revert the same article and user more than once per day.", so there's no big deal about undoing its reverts if you need to.
