Welcome!

Hi, Clay70, Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the encyclopaedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ; plus, if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.

Additional tips

edit

Here are some extra tips to help you get around in Wikipedia:

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.

Flin Flon - Sports

edit

Hi Clay70, I have noticed you putting a lot of work into the Flin Flon article, mainly the sports category. I have changed the title from Sports Legends back to Sports to keep with the formatting standard as shown in Wikiproject Cities, a project that this article falls under. I have also removed the sections regarding former players for the Flin Flon Bombers not actually from the city of Flin Flon as the subsection is intended to deal with sports as a whole in Flin Flon, not just their SJHL hockey team (although there is little else in there at this time). The former players for the Bombers should be incorporated into the team's article, not the city's article. Thanks --Kelapstick 18:24, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thansk for adding those two sources so promptly, and I would agree that the top one is adequately covered elsewhere. Artw 19:35, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hawkeye

edit

Hello... sorry to have to tell you this, but the web site you have used as a reference for the Hawkeye shoot doesn't support the "first in Toronto" assertion. (It does support the fact the series was shot there, however.) Please feel free to ask if you have any questions. Thanks for the contributions, by the way. --Ckatzchatspy 21:34, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok. It is true though and I talked with Sigmeund Neufeld who is now in his 80s and lives in Las Vegas. He and his dad were producers of the show and it was known to them that indeed Hawkeye was the first. I cant prove it though and cant find citations on the web. but if u read the 3rd artcile in my citation link u will get as close to proof as possibly expected. oh well.
Unfortunately, without a proper reference we can't make such a statement. However, there probably is something available... I'll take a look when I get a chance. Thanks again. --Ckatzchatspy 22:14, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I understand Ckatz..It may be hard to find something else, but its worth a shot. Take care, Clay

Alice in wonderland

edit

Hello. You made a really long edit right after a comment line that says 'don't expand this section, put it in the "Works influenced..." article.' Please take notes of comments like this when making edits. Thanks. Quaeler (talk) 06:12, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, the amount of information you added on the Works influenced page (?? in addition to the Alice page ??) far surpasses everything else in this article; the article is meant for simple brief enumeration of works influenced, not in depth discussions. Please consider making an article for the song itself, should you have such voluminous additions - and then link that article into the works-influenced item. Quaeler (talk) 06:15, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok I have toned it down to 2 sentences..and add the song link as well..Hope its ok now
Thanks much. Actually you linked to the page for the Alice character -- i don't know if there is actually an article for the song, but if there isn't then you should definitely create one since you have a lot to contribute to it. Quaeler (talk) 17:54, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oops yes I will fix the link so it takes you to the song not the character. Ciao

Image without license

Unspecified source for Image:Kawartha.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Kawartha.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 04:05, 24 July 2008 (UTC) I took the photo myself last week, which was stated when asked who has copyright when i downloaded it.Reply

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Allen Danziger is the correct spelling of one of the actors (not Danzinger) in the movie and he was born 1942. I just emailed his company to get the proper info as it had been stated that he was born in 1957, which is way off and impossible since he was 30 when he made the film.

Speedy deletion nomination of Millbridge, Ontario

edit

A tag has been placed on Millbridge, Ontario requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Millbridge, Ontario article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question at the "Help Desk". You can also leave a message on my talk page. R'n'B (call me Russ) 11:04, 6 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Vroomanton

A tag has been placed on Vroomanton, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Proposed deletion of Vroomanton

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Vroomanton, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not notable, unorphaned page.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Ghost towns

edit

If you want to create articles about ghost towns in Ontario, you need to note a couple of things:

  1. One line describing the place's location isn't sufficient; the article needs to provide a reasonable amount of detail about the ghost town beyond just where it is — if an article is just a one-line stub, then it only gets a redirect to the municipality that it's located in. For an example of how to write an article about a ghost town that has been left to stand on its own, look at Burchell Lake, Ontario — notice that it actually talks about the community itself.
  2. The article needs to be referenced to reliable sources. We don't allow unreferenced articles about unincorporated communities in Ontario — places aren't entitled to unreferenced articles on Wikipedia, and can be redirected to larger municipalities if references aren't present.
  3. The article needs to be at the title "Place, Ontario", not just "Place". If you want to recreate an article about a place that's been redirected — keeping in mind the requirement to provide real referenced detail about the place — you need to edit the original title (e.g. Vroomanton, Ontario) to replace the redirect with a better-sourced version of the article. Simply recreating the same unreferenced one-line stub at "Vroomanton" or "Vroomanton (ghost town)" instead is not okay, because that title isn't consistent with the naming rules for places in Canada, and if it doesn't get improved, it can and will get redirected for the exact same reason it got redirected the first time.
  4. Please don't leave articles uncategorized, either — Category:Ghost towns in Ontario needs to be at the bottom.

Hope that helps a bit. Bearcat (talk) 00:44, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adding historical details to community articles

edit

Hello Clay70, although it's much appreciated that you take an interest in adding historical details to the articles of smaller communities here in southern Ontario; please keep in mind that making these additions without simultaneously adding a supporting reliable reference, is not in keeping with the encyclopedia's policy regarding "verifiability". Please see WP:VERIFY. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 21:10, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did to Nicolet, Quebec. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Deconstructhis (talk) 23:40, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
