Kristen Stewart

edit

Her mother has a California birth record in the index in 1953. This matches with the specific birth date that's online for her, and with the year that Stewart said. She was adopted by Norma and Ben Urman, who were Jewish and married in California in the late 1940s (see this record). And Stewart's DNA test listed her as 24% Ashkenazi Jewish, which matches with the fact that most Jewish couples at the time adopted babies that were born to Jewish mothers; most likely, from the test, Stewart's birth grandmother was Jewish, and her grandfather wasn't. Stewart said most of this herself (the parts that were in the Wikipedia article). Usually, individuals are reliable sources for their own family heritage.

The interview aired on November 5, 2019, and can, as cited, be viewed at the archived page. It was also made note of on the Stern Archive pages. Radio shows and interviews can be cited as sources.
As for the links you cited. Popsugar - certainly seems possible her mother has relatives who live in Vancouver. It's not contradictory. The Forward - the writer, in 2011, was simply assuming when he called her "not Jewish." It wasn't an interview with Stewart. Nor has she ever called herself "not Jewish" as far as I know. Celeb Net worth - not a reliable source. Twitter - this picture, from 1995, doesn't mention residence. It just shows Jules with her children in Australia that year, probably on a visit. Myheritage - not a reliable source. Data aggregate/etc.
I asked about this before. Has Stewart ever said "my mother is Australian"? Or even "from Australia?" Something tells me this is a fact often repeated by media sources repeating each other's information (even the "Vancouver relatives" article doesn't actually feature her say it).
I don't know if you're a Kristen Stewart fan, but I'm genuinely interested in the Australian question. I've been following many examples of widespread media errors on similar issues (some of them popularized by Wikipedia itself), and something tells me "Australian mother" is another one, since her mother was born and raised in California. I know one source mentioned she went to high school in Australia, and maybe that's the source of the confusion. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:09, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hey there. My sources were confirmed to be unreliable — celebrity gossip magazines are not refutable citations. Regarding the Australian question….Los Angeles Times has an article identifying Jules Stewart as a native Australian. It’s the one cited here. I am a Kristen Stewart fan but I’ve never given much thought to her background. Cinematic Maniac (talk) 23:33, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Right, well, I've been wondering about the Australian thing ever since I discovered that her mother was born in Los Angeles, California. (and was listed as a B'nai Brith girl, a Jewish organization, in 1967 in a local paper, which means she was likely still living there then). It's been seeming more and more to me that her mother probably spent some time in Australia, but isn't an Australian in the traditional sense. She also speaks with an American accent. Hey there. I feel like adding that the articles about the birth/adoption records and the newspaper either require a sign-in or are behind a paywall..not easy to access in 1-2-3. The LA Times source mentions she moved to the United States at 16, which seems oddly specific. Speaking from personal experience I can attest to original accents fading over time (although everyone is different) after individuals moved to the United States at a formative age. I could be drawing straws here though. I also found a phone interview that MoviesOnline conducted with Kristen over The Messengers where she says “I want to go to Sydney University in Australia. My mom’s from there.” I’m hesitant to cite it even though it was once used here. This is entirely my own opinion, but I feel there’s not enough concrete information on whether Jules Stewart is or isn’t Australian…murky waters. I didn't (previously) take the Australian part out. Having said that, Kristen Stewart flatly stated that her mother was adopted in Van Nuys (California) in 1953, and the video is still viewable by anyone where anyone can see her say it. Sign-in to familysearch.org? Registering an account is free. Her mother's birth record can be seen even without a sign-in requirement here. If we're not including the California Jewish thing we should remove the Australia thing too, since Stewart flatly contradicted it in her own words. Sounds fine to me. I think this is a good compromise if any. Cinematic Maniac (talk) 03:21, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, but have you seen the Howard Stern interview video, yet? I feel like you still haven't. I see now that this whole discussion began with you, on November 10. I just feel like if you watched the video for yourself this whole thing would be over, unless you literally just don't believe Stewart, which would be unusual. Kristen Stewart - Edit warring is prohibited

edit

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. ..not this debate again.
First off, to the user: sorry about the editwarring. I need to brush up on Wikipedia's policies, still relatively new to the site.
And second...wasn't there a consensus reached on the noticeboard? That while the information about Stewart is true, it's not necessarily needed on a wikipage and comes off as trivia information? I think the only issue here is the source, which violates copyright policy, last I heard. Then there's the confusion about the alleged Australian lineage. Which is talked about by news sources and possibly Stewart herself, but the information's all outdated..
If someone wants to start a discussion on the noticeboard or talk page (again) they could do it. But I don't want to get involved in this cycle again and I'll leave it alone. Even if it's not totally needed on the page. I concede to the current status of the edits on the Kristen Stewart page, and I was wrong to assume the interview and its information was non-existent because of technical problems.
