Re: Spinosaurus reconstruction by Stromer edit

Hi. This scan was originally uploaded by Nubula (talk · contribs) on the 9th of May, 2007. I'm responsible for uploading a .png version of a cleanup by another editor, so I am unaware of the accuracy of the attribution. If you have reason to believe that it is a misleading or unverified rendering, please let me know so I can delete it. If you mean only to change the attribution to reflect that this is not representative of Stromer's work, feel free to edit the image description at File:Spinosaurus Monograph.png. Sorry for the very long delay Anetode, and thank you very much for your swift response. I am almost sure this is not an illustration made by Stromer in his monograph of Spinosaurus. I really believe it is the reconstruction made by Lapparent and Lavocat in 1955. Therefore, I am not sure whether the picture has still a free copyright in the U.S. Another thing. Is it impossible to use this illustration, as well as the drawing of the vertebrae of Spinosaurus made by Stromer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spinosaurus_vertebrae.png), on the French Wikipedia??? I am a little disappointed that those illustrations have got a U.S. copyright while they are made by European scientists (Stromer is German and Lapparent and Lavocat are French...). Could you tell me what I could do to use them in the article I'm writing on Spinosaurus on the French Wikipedia please? Regards,--Christophe Hendrickx (talk) 16:08, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia servers are housed (mainly) in the United States, so you should be able to use File:Spinosaurus vertebrae.png as a free image. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 06:07, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid no. As it is stipulated for both files, they can not be imported on Wikimedia Common. However, only Wikimedia files can be used on the French Wikipedia. Any other proposition?

Being that this image is in the public domain in the United States, I can use it as a basis to create a new image and release that new image under a free license. It is my reading of fr:WP: RUI that, while Stromer's original is still under copyright in France, fr.wiki would allow the hosting of a free-license image created within the US and covered under US law. Let me know if you need a rendering of any specific portion, or the entirety of the image, and I can create a {{GFDL}} version for you to upload to fr.wiki. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 06:14, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, this would be great if you could do that!! I'd really appreciate if you could create both illustrations I'm talking to and propose them as free-licence images, indeed. No, I don't need a specific portion of them and if you can keep the entire images, it would be perfect. Thanks a lot Anetode and Merry Christmas!!--Christophe Hendrickx (talk) 14:22, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Still on the project, just a bit busy this time of year :) ˉˉanetode╦╩ 19:47, 30 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
