Speedy deletion nomination of Nitram Charcoal edit

Hello Christina119,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Nitram Charcoal for deletion, because it seems to be an promotion, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, GailTheOx (talk) 23:29, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Nitram Charcoal edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nitram Charcoal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the page be "userfied" or emailed to you. Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 16:52, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Moving it edit

I've moved it to User:Christina119/Nitram Charcoal for more work. You need to read WP:CORP about notability for companies, and WP:RS about reliable independent sources (to prove it). If you find it hard to understand the policies (some do), or sort out references etc, have a word with User:Tokyogirl79 or User:MelanieN who are good reference diggers and article rescuers. Say I sent you. A supplier of cooking charcoal would most probably not be notable - who cares as long as it lights all right? Artistic charcoal may be a different matter. I grew up with little charcoal sticks around the place - my mother was an artist. (When I paint, it's oils straight on without sketching...) Peridon (talk) 19:25, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • I did a search and I couldn't find anything. I found a few blogs by stores that sell the charcoal, but those would be considered primary sources at best. I couldn't really find anything to show that this would pass notability guidelines. What I might suggest is that you look to see if there is any coverage of Martin Gros or any of his family members that run the company. Sometimes an individual will gain coverage and you can add a subsection for any companies they run. I didn't see anything offhand, but it's an alternative.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:27, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks for your note on my talk page about Nitram Charcoal. I'm afraid I have to agree with Peridon and Toykogirl. I understand that this is a good product and very popular within its target market. However, this is an international encyclopedia, and there are fairly strict criteria for what makes something notable enough to be included here. The main requirement is that the subject has received significant coverage from multiple independent reliable sources. That means that the company or its product have been written about by newspapers or general-circulation magazines, or described (not just mentioned) in books, or otherwise featured in detail by independent sources. Like Tokyogirl, I did some searching and could not find any mention of the company at all. Your enthusiasm for the company is commendable, and it could be expressed at less restrictive venues like art websites and blogs. But not here, I'm afraid. It just doesn't meet the criteria for an international encyclopedia. Sorry. --MelanieN (talk) 17:29, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
